This guide will be about Sobek. I have some builds for mostly casual play (and ranked Joust) but it can also be used in conquest sololane. I have 2100+ worshipers with sobek and think I have some knowledge about how he works best. Sobek is a blast to play. If you think guardians are boring you should definitely try Sobek.
I will talk about:
- The builds
- Combo's
- Tips & Tricks
- Pros / Cons
- Relics
If you have questions/comments let me know.
If you need help for Solobek (conquest) I can help you with that too.
Sobeks ability's and passive
Sobeks passive s a selfbuff. Sobeks basic attacks and ability's that hit an enemy grant him protections for a short time (6s).
Sobeks most important ability is his 1, Charge Prey (aka ButPlug). Sobek charges forward at a frenzied pace. If Sobek hits an enemy, he does damage and throws he enemy behind himself. Sobek is immune to knockups whilst dashing.
Sobeks second ability is Tail Whip. Sobek whips around in a circle, knocking enemies back and doing damage.
Sobeks third ability is Sickening Strike. Sobek does an axe attack that damages all enemies in front of him and lowers their healing received. In addition, Sobek heals for each enemy hit, up to 3 times.
Sobeks forth and last ability is hist ultimate, Lurking in the Waters. Sobek submerges himself, where he gains 30% protections, regenerates mana, is immune to Crowd Control and he slows all enemies. When Sobek emerges, he damages all enemies in the radius. Cancelling the ability decreases the damage.
Sobeks combo's
The most important combo is his 1-3(-2) combo. This gives a great setup, the 3 is for extra damage and if the enemy walks towards you (what will often happen, because it is also the way to their tower) you do your 2.
Ultimate
Sobeks ultimate is really strong and you can use it in multiple ways. If your team has to make a retreat after a fight, but the enemy is chasing. Use your ultimate to scare them away. It does a lot of damage and it slows, if they will chase through your ultimate there is a big chance you can turn the fight around. The enemy will probably turn around, your team will be safe.
If you want to maken a kill your can 1-3(-2)-4, make sure your teams knows what your doing because you will need follow up from your team directly after your 1.
When you miss/done goofed
If you miss your dash you need to be carefull, because you are probably between 2 or 3 enemies. First, use your 3 as fast as possible for the heal (and Gem of Isolation or Shield of Regrowth if you have it). Try to make your retreat by using your 2 to knock up enemies in your way. If you get CC you can use your ultimate, don't do this while your health is low. If you die in your ultimate you have made a big loss for your team.
Tip
You can always try to poke (slightly damage) the enemy with your 3, this will also heal you. If your health is not 100%, use your 3 on the first 3 minions (the melees) of the wave. You don't have to hit the arhers because you can heal of 3 enemies, not more.
I have verious builds for Sobek and almost all of them are very agressive and with damage items. Sobek can put out a lot of damage with his combo's so you want to use that to your advantage.
The first build works really well because of the Mystical Mail damage + the insane CDR genji gives, top that CDR off with Spirit Robe and Mantle of Discord and Gem of Isolation to slow the enemy as much as possible
The forth build is all about CDR and just being annoying. Gem procs on your 3, you want to use your 3 as much as possible. Your 3 will have great peel (defending your teammates) and has a great setup when you use your combo.
I would not recommend the "Team Protection" build because you won't havve a great impact, but it helps your teammates stay alive. But hey, if you feel like it, who am I to stop you ;D
If you use a mystical mail build don't be afraid to basic attack. You can basic attack use your 2-3 and then dase (1) away if you need to. Basic attacking + Mystical Mail is a great distraction because it does a lot of damage over time, make sure your team
Note
You can and should mix items up. For instance, if you replace mystical mail for Mantle of discord in Final build 1 because you feel like you need to, you should. I'm just showing the builds I use in a mainstream form. So mix it up.
- Try to avoid dashing when the wave is here. Your dash will cancel, if you try to escape and dash in a minion it could mean you die.
- Your 2 is a bad setup for your 1, because it can be unpredictable and you will often be confused and miss. You can try to practice this. It does work near walls (if the enemy gets pushed into the wall).
- You can auto-attack cancel on the 3, it is worth doing, but a little bit hard for some people at first.
Pros
- Good setup
- Sustain (Heal in his 3)
- Great area damage
- Great against gods with little to no mobility
- Good lane clear
- Nice passive
Cons
- Sprint counters his ult
- Dashing into minions
- Countered by Ares and Ganesha (dash cancels)
I would always recommend starting with Magic Shell.
If the enemy has aphrodite or another annoying healer that has great impact in team fights I would go for a Cursed Ankh
Sprint or Horrific Emblem is nice for your ult and setup in general.
If your against an Odin Phantom is necessary.
