Odin, the king of the Nordic gods has had a special place in my heart since I first started on smite. It took a lot of matches of getting beat up to come up with a relatively workable build for Odin, with improvements daily as I come up with other minor strategies. This is as it implies a solo build, so designed for a fairly even attack/defensive build. Enjoy, hope this build works for someone else too. I always appreciate any and all feedback, different ideas build improvement.
Lunge- This is your entry and emergency exit ability. Lunge allows for a good drop in with decent minion clear ability and puts you close enough to the enemy to move into a Gungnir's Might which can be used to hit and run, or stop the enemy from retreating. Lung is also a good escape when you're on the run and need to move quick, when you need to hop over your spears, or when you need to go over top of a wall. Try your best not to use this skill as an attack while already close and engaged, its ability to retreat is much more potent.
Raven's Shout- Probably Odin's best ability in his arsenal. This move is an extremely effective defense move, as well as an attack move. I prefer to lunge in and bruise a bit, and use this move to mitigate damage. If it explodes it does some decent damage, but it gives a large enough clip of health to give you an edge. Paired with Stone of Gaia it allows you some time to recover, and with mystical mail you can stay close and chip damage without getting beat up too badly. Of course it's also potent if used at a distance, and then using lunge to "Bird Bomb" as the move does extra damage when the shield hasn't been hit, and hitting the ground from lunge causes the shield to automatically explode. This combo does huge damage, but remember it leaves you shieldless and without an escape ability.
Gungnir's Might- Odin's second best ability. Why you might ask? Because of slow, that is why. It does fair damage, and slows the target for a few seconds. You can use this after a lunge to slow down so you can chase, or slow an enemy so you can retreat. It gives you better maneuverability and is usually the last step to any Odin combo you can think of.
Ring of Spears- I want to touch on the Ring of Spears. When solo, you need to drop this when it's ready to go, especially if you minion clear. Minions are friends, and while their damage is minor many full health warriors get cocky and don't realize how quick that can drop when they can't regen or attack fast enough to kill minions. It also has a very good cooldown for an ult, so it can be used before a relic such as blink recharges. For Odin, bruise the health down, and after they are considerably low, bird bomb. Now since patch 3.12 this also stacks his old passive to gain 5 power everyone someone does inside. Note this doesn't mean you have to be the one to make the kill.
Path to Valhalla- This is a great addition to odin, giving him a power boost and a movement speed boost when an enemy or ally dies. This amps up his ability to help wipe a team and catch up with rings when you have a team on the run.
Odin users will do a lot of bird bombing, I find lunge, into Gungnir's Might, and using raven shout to continue poking or retreat is most effective. The bird bomb combo(Ravens Shout+Lunge) is best for a sure fire kill with a hit or 2 of landing. Remember use your abilities to get into combat and push when you want, and use them to get out when you need to. Kills are for Assassin's, survival is for Warriors.
So this build is designed to be sustainable early game in solo lane. The Transcendence is crucial because Odin is extremely skill heavy, and his skills eat mana. He is not designed to get kills earlier game, more or less to poke and bruise to win out the lane. Jotunns goes next for some added cooldown and a little pen. Warrior Tabi gives you speed to move around but also stacks more damage to your attacks. Next is hide of the urchin to get some sustain going, especially since assisting happens a lot. After that is breastplate for some added protections and reduced cooldowns. Last is Runic Shield for a bit more damage and a bit more defense against mages. It also drives extra power out of your abilities with enemies caught in the ring with you.
My interchangeable items listed are more for different play styles. If you want that more offensive odin, you might consider adding on Ancile. It gives you less sustainability, but the cooldown, damage boost, and minor magic protection allow you to hit hard and still have some magical protection. Titan's bane again drives physical damage.
The test items are designed to have some fun in team fights using Odin's Ring of Spears. The Goal is to see if you can drive higher damage output, more info to come if I decide I like it.
You are an unsung support character on your team. You are not designed to be the killer, you are designed to beat up, maneuver and control. That being said engaging in team battles means you need to be moving jumping, and dropping your Spears. Don't be afraid to get hit, remember you have a shield ability to get close and personal.
