Extended Build

Introduction

I'm gonna be honest: I suck at Smite. If you're looking for some MLG pro player build this ain't it. The only reason I'm making this guide is because there aren't any other 10.10/11 guides for Thanatos out there yet. What I can tell you is that despite sucking at the game I can still manage to have 20+ kill games using this build, so if I can do it, so can you.

Items

Starting Items

We're gonna be starting off with the Manikin Mace. The burn + health regen on Jungle monsters makes it a no-brainer in my mind. You'll also be picking up the Mace, which you're going to Glyph into Jotunn's Vigor ASAP to give you a bit of survivability (read: running away more quickly).

Pick up a Ward so your team doesn't flame you for being a bad Jungler (they're probably going to anyway) and Purification Beads, then a Wing Shard to help you zip around the map a bit easier. You can also swap for a Horn Shard if you think you really need the cooldown (9 times out of 10 your fights won't last long enough in the early game to need the CD but hey, you do you).

The Full Build

After you've upgraded to Jotunn's Vigor, you're going to pick up Hydra's Lament, Bloodforge, and Heartseeker. The last slot I usually default to Brawler's Beatstick. Brawler's isn't bad but depending on how your game is going and the enemy comp don't be afraid to switch out Brawler's for something more situational.

At Level 20 you're gonna evolve your starter into the Manikin Hidden Blade. This is like the ultimate tool to help you jump dudes from the jungle. For your other relic build Aegis if you find yourself getting chunked easily and need more getaway, or get Blink Rune
if you want to be able to chase guys down more easily.

Playstyle

You'll notice that there's basically no attack speed/crit/lifesteal in this build. That's because the Thanatos I like to play doesn't plan on sticking around a fight long enough to drop 20 basic attacks on a god for that stuff to matter. These items set you up to drop in, make some big hits, and get the hell out of dodge without taking too much damage.

I don't play any other junglers so I guess I don't know if there's anything different Thanatos should do as far as pathing/clearing/all that technical route stuff. If you've never played a jungler just go watch some YouTube guides on what routes you should take and start there. My 2 cents is that your goal at the start of the match should be to get to level 5 as quickly as possible to unlock your ult, so don't waste time playing grab-*** with the enemy jungler or hanging out in lanes.

Hot take: you shouldn't be sitting on your Ultimate all the time waiting for the enemy to drop into the execute threshold. Early-mid game, it's a powerful tool that can help you initiate a gank and can very easily still get you a kill if you follow up well and coordinate with your team. If you ult an enemy outside the kill threshold, drop your Soul Reap to silence them, and then point-blank them with your Scythe to take a chunk of health off. Follow up with a 3-hit chain of your basic and then reevaluate the situation. If your team isn't there and you aren't going to finish them in another 3 basics, then just turn and burn back to jungle or tower.

By endgame, your build is going to allow you to initiate fights with your ult, and using the same method above you're more than likely going to be able to kill any of the squishier gods even if they're at full health. It should go without saying but I'm going to anyway: don't try this on the tank, it's not going to do ****.
