Starting off the build with Sentinel's Gift rewards you with gold as well as health and mana after you get a minion assist. Going first item Gauntlet of Thebes grants early game survivability, as well as an aura that boosts allies defenses. I go Horrific Emblem to hopefully get some early game lock down as well as a beads burner.
Selling Sentinel's Gift at the end for Void Stone gives you your last stack for the passive as well as some pen to amp the damage you do late game. When using Bracer of Brilliance my main goal is to set up damage going in and then you can go back through to get the movement speed to either retreat or rotate.
Starting of with your 3 is the safe choice in my opinion, mostly for the minion damage and knockback. Shackles is your main lockdown ability and you are able to auto combo with it. Hitting your chains gives you movement speed so you can run up and auto-1-auto again on the same enemy for a good burst of damage. Your 2 will give you full defenses as well as hp5 when you are full build so you become a true tank. Your ult shouldn't be upgraded until the end mainly just because of the cost going up. Using your ult after burning bead is good but also just using it to burn beads is also a viable option. Opening up a Horrific Emblem play instead.
Seeing as there aren't ant towers to push in arena. The only change is Emperor's Armor to Mystical Mail. Since everyone is around you at all times, it's just infinite damage. While Bracer of Brilliance can be used more frivolously, my recommendation is to keep it in the middle.
This build is for both Slash and Arena. If there are 2 or more healers on the enemy team then I recommend switching it up to this. Pestilence is the stat counter and Amulet of Silence is the direct counter to those healer. I would say to focus them as well, as the glyph is activated by an auto hit.
These are the aura items that effect Ares' passive. I thought I would list the ones that actually work.
Lets have some fun, and some of the most fun I have had with Ares is with full aura build. Not only does the aura items have some of the most unique effects, due to his passive, after each completed item you are rewarded 30 magical power. For a total of 180 magical power at full build. Any aura item could be used, however the combination that I use gives near full physical/magical defense and a solid amount of hp5. As well as item effects that boosts your teams defenses, minions attack speed and health, and also boosts ally towers and debuffs enemy towers while you are in range. Making you a mobile hotspot of buffs for pushes and defenses.
I would say that any active is viable for any role, it is just about being able to actually use them. Here I am just going to explain my use of the actives that I have liked to use. First off, I start it off with Horrific Emblem. Reducing their movement speed makes them an easier target for you and your teammates. Reducing their attack speed makes their auto chain become slower, resulting in slower actions as well as limiting their damage. I prefer upgrading it to the Emblem of Increasing Peril. Lowering their damage even more as well as making it to where if they are affected by the active and you deal 10% of their health, the effects are increased. Making this active a really versatile pick. The second active I go for is the Bracer of Radiance. It is a ward that gives a power buff and/or a speed buff to you and your allies when you pass through it. When upgraded to Bracer of Brilliance it does both buffs no matter the health you or your allies are at. When I use the active I try to position it in between you and the objective. Whether the objective is a jungle buff or boss, or even towers. Gaining the power when going in is optimal and then running back through it giving you the movement speed for either the retreat or the rotation. I have also used it to drop on top of a low health ally to give them the movement speed to make their get away.
When looking at the enemy team, if you see two or more gods who have healing abilities then I would recommend going the separate build I have made with the same concept in mind. However gameplay might be a bit more focused. What I mean is that you will need to focus on the healing threats and just always go after them. Focus your abilities on them as well as your autos because the main change in the build it the different Glyph. When going Amulet of Silence, the special ability of the glyph is to register when 5 abilities are used in your area and after that your next auto will silence for a short duration. While countering their healing, the thought is to also keep them from using their healing abilities with this glyph.
I have a lot of fun making builds specifically for gods and I hope y'all enjoy the builds I come up with. Being honest, I'm not a big fan of conquest. I have been having a lot of fun in Slash and even in Arena so that is why I have builds for those game modes. I didn't add a Conquest build because I don't believe this is a build that is meta. Therefor, sense the main competitive game mode is Conquest, I would say to not bring builds that are more for fun. Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy the build.
