These are the best for set at the moment, manikin good for bullying, bluestone good for poke and clear sell this late game or buy corrupted because there are better items, warriors good versus a bully to stay tanky early and not die fast.
Multi pots good if u want to fight e.g. If you went manikin start to bully, normal healys good for staying until you get full boots.
Teleport is good if your new to set or not confident in solo, also good v bullies.
Beads if you are confident in your set play or solo play, get them if they have heavy cc jungle solo combo that wrecks you. Also honorable mention to warding sigil, God v mage solo or hunter I as of next patch. Not essential though.
This is recommended for double adc, aa jungle + adc, adc mage and adc hunter. Upgrade warriors into sundering, upgrade is really good value for money as it gives that 10% current health steal every 7 seconds. Corrupted is less important I would only get it if your confident at set otherwise just sell bluestone for a heartseeker. Manikin mace is very strong upgrade when possible. Tabis are interchangeable. If against magical go cad shield, frostbound into zerk shield otherwise just stick to this order. Sell boots late for antiheal if needed, toxic blade. Stone cutting is recommended otherwise as it is extremely strong right now. Spectral v Crit. Sledge v high cc comps. Beads is absolutely a necessity on set buy beads every game or you will struggle. 2nd relic thorns v double adc/aa gods, horrific v non slow immune gods, ankh v heavy healing comps e.g. Aphro, hel, ra etc. Zerk shield, frostbound, caduceus shield, mantle, should not change at all.
Always this order in both roles, max ult whenever possible, kingslayer then skewer then spwan then sandstorm in that order

Same starters as other build type, warrior tabi always first, if v a mage I recommend runic shield rush instead then go warrior tabi so you don't get one shot by the enemy mage solo and then sell it late game for a stronger defense or offensive item, otherwise go shifters, after its buffs it is such a strong item as it provides a crazy amount of power or defense depending on the threshold, cad shield, always good for set to increase the healing from kingslayer, void shield is very good if you have a hecay physical team e.g. 4 phys 1 mage comp, if not I still recommend it because it gives you so much extra damage from the 10% aura pen, mantle always recommend on set because it helps him by giving that little extra bit of cc immunity when low which can help turn a fight and the 10 percent cdr is nice, heartseeker late game is Really powerful on set 3 abilities that proc it, sledge for heavy cc comps, spectral vs Crit, oni hunters if your getting focused a lot, brawlers for offensive antiheal otherwise pestilence v mage healers and contagion v phys healers. Same relics as previous upgrade thorns or ankh ASAP as they're both really strong upgraded.
Arondight and pridwen are both bad because kingslayer has a long channel time, 12-14 seconds and will not proc until finished, winged and heavenly are bad because set has slow immunity from sandstorm, hastened is bad on set because he doesn't need it to keep up with enemies, soul eater because he has sustain from his ultimate and will give enemies another reason to build antiheal. Lobos mask because it will make set do potato damage and reduce healing. Finally Breastplate because set doesn't absolutely need cdr because he is not ability hungry like other gods and requires bruiser items to deal a lot of damage and survive.
If you are against a character that bullies set, sit under tower just farm until lvl 6 which is where your kill potential just jumps from 20 to 80 percent because kingslayer is extremely strong. Providing heal, bonus damage and a clone every 4th hit.
If you are the bully, take advantage, compete for totems, for the scorpion, especially if you start manikin scepter to bully the lane.
If it's a stalemate aka no kill potential then just farm, avoid the enemy solo till lvl 6 then try to kill, even if you force them to back, that's good because they're missing potentially xp or gold from the waves or totems. Poke isnt very prominent early but will be in the mid game, because a lot of solos will buy chalice and pots. Beware, before lvl 3 you can get killed very easily especially v a bully or a high early pressure jungle such as fenrir or erlang shen who have good cc, but when you get to level 3 you are extremely safe for an assassin in solo because of mitigations from sandstorm and the long range tp.
In this stage of the game around 10 - 15 set becomes at his strongest where he is arguably unboxable especially when he has kingslayer, his ultimate, your kill pressure when you have points In skewer and kingslayer with 3 or 4 items, spikes dramatically. You can 1v2 any jungle plus solo if you are a confident set player otherwise just take the 1v1, and you should win the 1v1, start proxying if the lane is stalling by invading or getting early waves, you are pretty safe with kingslayer and sandstorm up. Get ganked just tp away or ult for the fight. You are untouchable unless the jungler is fed or you have lost the early laning phase by dying more than once and the solo has a lead. If you are winning the lane though just keep the pressure up and bully the opposition solo by poking them with spawn of set and skewer combo or just skewer from range as its very prominent v a non healer. Get the totems whenever you can and scorpions, invade blue buffs frequently to force the enemy solo to give up pressure to you. This will further increase your lead. Especially if you kill the enemy jungle. And successfully invade. But if you are losing at this point, remember you are at your strongest and will most of the time have kill pressure because of kingslayer, don't worry if you whiff a few ults or the enemy solo escapes because you don't need your ultimate to escape the enemy solo or jungle. You should also have your second relic by now and you should ALWAYS GET Beads because high cc comps or any cc can seriously punish you for overstaying your welcome. Otherwise just get thorns, horrific or ankh. If you are behind make sure to ward where you think the ganks are coming from remember warding is ESSENTIAL. If you don't ward you will get camped by the jungler all game. Make sure you are calling if the enemy solo is missing. If you don't know where to ward, best places are at there back camps, Blue buff and/or at yours. This will prevent easy ganks. Just farm and split push to get back in the game and keep calling that solo us missing. Rotating is really important especially if ahead, make sure to bait their jungler for a gank or the the enemy team so you're team can pick up a gold fury for free otherwise rotate to those fights at objectives e.g. Gold fury, fire giant, pyromancer etc.
As set your job late game In the fights is to dive the back line and keep diving till you get low make sure you communicate with your team to say attack or I'll attack. Make sure you are diving with your jungler otherwise you can get focused easily and cc chained to death. Set cannot peel for his back line so don't even try because all he has is a slow, not much cc at all. Make sure to pin down 1 target of your choosing mid or adc, then use what you have to kill them extremely fast. Use your thorns if they have Crit or a glass cannon mage such as anubis. This will help dive them more efficiently and kill them faster. Use horrific if they have no slow immunities on their team to catch up to them it is very efficient v high move speed gods with no slow immunty e.g. Poseidon or Hel, Hel doesn't want to waste her cleanse it beads on horrific so they might get greedy and try to save it or use upgraded ankh if they have a lot of healers and dive the healer with it to kill them faster and without difficulty. Around objectives your job is to zone don't let anyone get near the objective on the enemy team especially if they have a Ra or a poseidon who have extremely high steal potential with searing pain or kraken. If they come close bait them into it and set up an ambush for your team to come in and kill the potential stealer. Make sure to buy sentry wards late game to counter wards on objectives so your team gains vision of the gf or fg. Make sure to zone the objectives and if you do your job as the solo your team should stand a better chance at glory.
Set is arguably the best god in the game currently but does come with high risk and high reward with his high skill cap of gameplay and mechanics and understanding of his kit. Early game farm until lvl 6 sit back under tower unless your the bully, mid game proxy, invade if ahead or just split push and farm if behind and late game dive the back line with all that you have available to you and make sure to BUY BEADS ALWAYS AND WARDING IS ESSENTIAL, if you seek chaos and strife to gain victory just like set would. As set would say, "with chaos and strife, the strong survive" now reek havoc on those Kings and slay and skewer them.
