I've created the following videos to compliment this guide, as well as to highlight the gameplay using these build strategies.
The Triple Crown build relies on healing as its primary source; therefore Wisps will be your ranking priority. The importance of
Wisps is two-fold: Healing and Protections. The damage component of
Wisps is icing on a very tasty cake.
Your second ability to rank up will be Verdant Growth, and this is largely for damage, as well as protection shred versus your opponents. The mana regeneration of
Verdant Growth is static, so ranking it up does not add any more MP5 to the blossoms. Season 4 made an important change to
Verdant Growth in that the protection shred is now applied on impact with an enemy - no longer limited to the enemy who popped a blossom on the ground. This gives
Verdant Growth an important place in mid-to-late game team fights, once your primary items are on line, by further reducing protections on your enemies.
Your ultimate Wrath of Terra should get a point whenever available. This ability can be a game changer in a team fight, as it can help counter initiate, peel, initiate and setup ultimate ability chains. Nothing too special about it, except the CC immunity you get while casting, and the knock-up component it has; otherwise, it just does a bunch of damage and applies a DoT.
Your third ability Nature's Grasp is a skill shot pull with a stun component. It is worth noting that
Nature's Grasp will trigger defensive items such as
Spirit Robe (because of the stun) and
Stone of Gaia/Magi's Blessing (because of the displacement). This can be a good way to burn anti-CC effects from opponents. The only drawback to this ability is that it has no other function (as if it, or
Sylvanus needed more); increasing its rank only reduces its cooldown.
Starting out you will want to get a Watcher's Gift and
Boots along with some wards and mana potions. This will enable you to get your initial sustain, and allow you to rapidly earn gold to get into your build as early as possible. Build speed is one of the main advantages with this build, as most items are under 2200 Gold.
Your first item will depend on where you are versus the opposing support, and where your team is in terms of gold/experience. If you are playing from ahead, Celestial Legion Helm is a good way to help teammates who are behind by effectively providing them an extra item through its interaction with
Wisps. You can simply pass through the lane, hit your teammate with a heal, and leave so that they can more efficiently clear a wave without having to split it.
If you are playing from behind, then you will want to consider Lotus Crown or Jade Emperor's Crown. The Lotus Crown will provide your team with significant protections, in addition to the protections provided by
Wisps - basically providing protections equivalent to a
Mantle of Discord once
Wisps is fully ranked. The
Jade Emperor's Crown is a good choice when you are behind, and the opposing Carry is a Physical God (Hunter/Assassin), as it will effectively shave an item off of their build (in terms of Power) while in range. The decision on which item is the best fits depends largely on your personal play style and preference. The Lotus Crown has the most overall value when the passive is triggered, however, the
Jade Emperor's Crown is an aura-based passive that requires no activation.
Your third item will follow the same general logic as the second. If you are ahead, you can use Jade Emperor's Crown to further suppress and punish Physical gods; or you can further snowball your team with Lotus Crown by giving your team an even bigger edge in engagements big and small.
The fourth item marks a milestone in the build, in that you can choose to sell your Watcher's Gift in order to accelerate your build to finish your third crown. Once you've completed all 3 (Lotus Crown, Celestial Legion Helm and
Jade Emperor's Crown) then it is time to tailor your build against the other team.
At this point you can go in one of two directions, with a third as a deviation. The build paths I've provided above highlight the general direction you'll go in your build. It is important to note, and understand, that these builds are not static. The Triple Crown build is cheap, which means it is also flexible. Anti-healing items should always be considered when going into a sustain heavy composition. If you need more tank, and less utility, then the Gauntlet of Thebes is another good, cheap option that adds a passive protections aura on top of your active protections buffs.
The direction you go in this build is up to you.
Laning
Watcher's Gift gives you the luxury of taxing lanes without having to steal last hits to do so. It is important to remember that as a support you should soften a wave, but not kill it (unless you are alone in the lane). You should use your
Wisps as often as possible to keep your team's laners topped off on health, while giving them additional wave clear efficiency.
In the Early Game you should drop a Verdant Growth blossom under your team's towers to give teammates a mana haven so they can sustain longer - when reasonable. As the game transitions from Early to Mid game, you'll want to be more frugal with
Verdant Growth as you will be using it more and more throughout the game as an engagement tool.
Sylvanus is weak in the Jungle, but he also needs to rotate. Keeping vision just above your rotation path will allow him to more safely traverse the Jungle to assist in lanes. That said, its important to understand that its traveling through the Jungle that is dangerous for
Sylvanus; not fighting in it. Don't be afraid to fight in the Jungle, just don't get caught out.
Team Fights
This is where the build truly shines. In a team fight, Wisps will amp your team up and give them significant tankiness. This build does not enhance his engage, so it is worth letting others bait or soft-engage, then follow up with a hard engage through
Nature's Grasp into Terra's Wrath; or
Blink Rune into Terra's Wrath.
Once the team fight is initiated, fire your Wisps and root a target with
Verdant Growth. At this point, your team should be collapsing and multiple enemies should be chunked down a bit (with two DoTs on top of that). Your target will have shredded protections, your team will have the exact opposite.
I may have botched the leveling order.
