Key here is to increase your time in lane. Hives heal you overtime and now you have mana when you need it. Start boots and Trans.
Finish Trans the second you can and start stacking, before long you will have what you need for Soul Eater. SE is misname friendly because you don't need lasthits and it works for both teams minions. Once its charged up your honey will slow them and heal you! Most teams charge at me when I'm half health not knowing that I can heal up instantly by throwing honey over them and their minions. It turns the tables quick and keeps you in lane. I often have games where im 10/0/? At least.
Key items in this phase is crusher and Runeforged hammer. Crusher ticks constantly while enemies are slowed in the honey and Runeforged gives you health and makes your honey do 20% more damage. It melts their whole team. Don't forget your heals from last phase.
Last phase is preference. I usually go heartseeker to troll but there are some mathematicians out there who could probably say the penetration would be better. Brawlers beatstick dominates teams with healers.
Im not sure if I got the skills exactly right as this is my first guide. Regardless, the goal is to get all three at the beginning, max honey, then bees, then hives, while also taking your ult whenever possible.

I usually go with heavenly wings and then it depends. Heavenly wings+bee hive movement bonus is comparable to boots so its like early game boots for you plus puts your team in a position to chase or escape. I then usually go with aegis or shell. Aegis is great against burst(though I never get the timing right :P) shell is what I take two help the team. It still protects me but shield×5 to me is comparable to invulin for 1 in most cases. There are a couple other relics I got for situations. Beads always for Ares or Da Ji. Meditate is ok if your just casually playing with a group in party. I usually take shell though.
This guide is very different from all the other guides I've seen for AMC. Most seem to be ability dmg+ attackspeed. Attack speed is good for other hunters but not for AMC in my opinion. His kit is full of damage over time abilities that don't benefit from attack speed. That being said, I can say that others will say I have a lazy or casual playstyle. My sole focus in game is to hit with abilities constantly. My auto attacking is for cleanup or if I'm on cooldowns. Your goal should always be to bully their whole team as you are defending. Make them think their winning till the last second. Then late game you come out wrecking and they have not clue where you come from. Hitting them with honey 2 times after finishing Trans and SE will make most players B. Keep making them heal and once you have a couple levels on the enemies the games pretty much over. With this build, your basics will be really good even though they are not the primary focus. I have complete confidence this is the most fun build by far just to watch enemies over exert trying to focus you, you outheal them, and get a triple kill. That all being said here are some tips to play effectively.
At the beginning of the game throw a hive down around phoenix to get back to the action faster if you die or B. You get a movement speed buff in the range. The only time I wouldn't do this is if I felt I was going to be in a fight soon.
Without hives around, your honey is ****. If you want this build to work you need to know where to put them. Always put your hives behind walls next to blue in the joust map and behind pylons in arena where they will be overlooked. On conquest I put important ones outside lane so range reaches the lane and then place more as I push for decoys and to bait players to push and kill them. If you time it right its possible you could block a basic with it but you would need really fast reflexes. Its ok to throw down multiples in the same area if you need assurance that you will be able to use your honey. Also, oddly enough I've noticed you can bait people with hives. They try to destroy them as if it were an ocd impulse. Ive gotten quite a few kills because someone ran away from their team to kill my hive and they died before they could. Back to placing hives. Behind the bluebuff camp in joust as close to the back wall as you can is great for amc. If the other teams not paying attention you can place it from the lane. He does an animation when he places a hive so some players will know you placed it. This forces someone from their team to leave lane to pop it leaving their teammates vulnerable. Usually I let them pop it and then place a new one as they are returning to lane XD. Just always put them behind walls and you will do great.
You can harass like a boss and from a safe distance as you repeatedly drop your honey on their team. You will force a lot to B and open up chances to burst down the surviving members. Its important to know that the bees will also jump from enemy to enemy so if you can hit an enemy next to a 30hp enemy who's hiding under a turret, you get a kill.;) use your bees ability to burst multiple enemies, secure kills, or to wipe minions. The reason we build stacks is that AMC is made to stack. Usually in between exchanges with enemies I throw honey under minions and then use the bees ability to last hit. With SE this will heal you like half health. Use your stinger on whoever tries to jump you or work with cc teammates to target key enemies, just don't waste it. The reward for picking it up is a 15sec cool down. If you miss or can't reach it, its way longer. I usually keep it to burst down squishes who get cced. Hopefully this guide makes AMC as fun for you as it is for me. Try it out and you won't be sorry. It melts entire teams.
