You can either upgrade the Ice Wall first, or you can upgrade your Glacial Strike it all depends on how you want to play it. Same goes for Frost Breath before Glacial Strike Ymir is played a lot of ways.
Ice boi has been a fan favorite for a long time. A lot of people enjoy the base damage this god brings, and being able to freeze the enemy, not to mention his very robust laugh spam. For those of us who wonder why this god was highly contested in the SPL, and other competitive areas I am here to put some light on that for you. As a long time Ymir hater, I have grown to accept, and even enjoy playing Ymir at a high level.
Ymirs value comes from his first ability Ice Wall. His wall changes the landscape of the map, he forces choke points every he goes. If you are a god like Ra, with no sort of leap, and Ymir finds you in the jungle he is able to place a wall behind you, and you're now forced to face Ymir, and presumably his entire team behind him. Ymirs wall brings so much out play potential, to the game. However Ymir is not without his own issues. Ymir also does not have a dash, or any kind of mobility, so he must position well otherwise you will just find yourself walking into death.
Ymir is also played to counter pick some gods that have very easy mobility inside of their CC immune ults. For example Guan, and Scylla can active their ults, and can position wherever they want. However against a Ymir you can use your wall to either block off the escape, or wall yourself from the enemy that is coming at you to avoid the damage, or the stun that the enemy is bringing.
Ymirs passive also increases the damage they take from your autos by 100%, and while your passive "frostbite" is on the enemy, they will deal 15% less damage with their abilities, and kits.
