Hey guys, I'm new to smitefire and this is my first guide so go easy on me! I've been playing quite a bit of Zhong lately and I haven't lost a game with him yet getting to mastery 1 (conquest only) so I decided I should make a guide to help others play him!
I usually play Zhong Kui as a tanky in-your-face type of mage, similar to Necrolyte from Dota (or Soul Reaper in HoN). I hope you enjoy and please provide feedback as I've never written a guide like this before!
PROS:
-Very tanky with passive protections
-Incredible healing with Exorcism and ult
-High burst damage with Expose Evil into Exorcism combo
-Has a stun
-Is immune to CC during his ult
-Very high harass with auto attacks due to 3 and ability to heal himself after exchanges
CONS:
-Low range on his 2 and 3
That is literally the only con I can think of
I build Zhong Kui as a tank-mage with high sustain and health. I like to get early health to take advantage of his high early game protection and then I begin to build CDR/MP to increase his sustain and damage. Warlock's Sash and Doom-Orb (or even Book Of Thoth) are very viable items for Zhong as he needs to get souls before engaging in most fights so he will often have to farm a little bit between deaths (or fights). I know I don't have much penetration but my thinking is that any tanks should not be a problem with the amount of healing you can do due to the CDR in the core build.
I like to get Expose Evil at level 1 as it has the highest base damage of his abilities as well as a slow for chase down in early game jungle battles at furies. Exorcism is practically useless unless the target is marked by Expose Evil so there is no point in taking it at level 1. Book of Demons can be an option at level 1 but the stun duration is also very low on non-marked targets and I like to have the early heals from Expose Evil and Exorcism by level 2. I obviously level his ultimate every chance I get as it is an incredible ability, being able to fight off ganks from junglers early game as well as turning them around for a kill.
Note that when wave clearing, it is important to cast Expose Evil on all the lane creeps from the front, and then walking around the melee creeps to the side of your lane to cast exorcism on both the melee and ranges creeps.
You want to play Zhong as a type of bruiser-caster. That means following up on your main tanks initiation and overpowering your enemies. Remember that your ult also heals teammates for ridiculous amounts and makes you CC immune, so if your team gets grabbed into a big combo (ie: Ares ult into Pos ult) be sure to activate your ult to avoid the damage to yourself and heal your teammates to turn the fight around.
Well, this is the end, beautiful friends, the end.
THIS IS STILL A WIP! Please provide feedback I'm sure I there's a lot of info I should add. (KEEP IN MIND THIS IS MY FIRST GUIDE!)
