How to Counter the 'Top Ten'

So, for anyone playing other MOBAs, it's pretty general knowledge to know who counters who, and how hard, but people in Smite tend to play who they like to play, and it seems not many fully understand who counters who. As such, while this is obviously subjective and the truth may be skewed amongst opinions, I'd like to post the top 10 most picked gods, and see who you all believe to be their counters, and why!

You don't have to go into great detail, or do every god, but it's interesting to see why certain gods would counter others. However, do note that I'm specifically looking for counter picks, not items, as that would dip into strategy over matchups. So for 'Loki', let's say, don't mention , but mention - just as an example!
Without further ado, according to http://tiermonster.com/ the top 10 gods picked are

1. Anhur
2. Neith
3. Poseidon
4. Apollo
5. Thor
6. Loki
7. Ra
8. Ymir
9. Sobek
10. Ao Kuang
11 Agni (I had to add him, he's so powerful!)

Again, note that this is based on overall popularity, not ranked popularity or recent popularity (Hence Chang'E and Chronos would be very low, even if picked often now)
This is so that we can understand who the most common counters are to the most common gods, even if they aren't the 'strongest', as that becomes an opinion based on an opinion, instead of an opinion based on a statistic (in this case, pick percentage)

Hybrid phy tank Tyr could take all the phy guys cept for Thor and maybe Sobek.

I will throw in what I can, and people can go off from that:

I should begin by saying that all of these can be taken down by a cluster-**** of people attacking them at once. That is fairly obvious (or at least it should be).

1. Anhur: I have noticed that going up in a 1v1 with Anhur will almost always result in failure. He is one of the best ADC's, and has some of the highest damage of them. High-damage abilities are your best bet. Gods like or can take him down with relative ease. Basically, burst that ***** down.

2. Neith: I will make this quick. I hate this *****. Never 1v1 her, ever. She will always win. Why? Because she is the most overpowered God in the game, that is why! Get her Backflip out of her, and you might be able to take her out with two or more people.

3. Poseidon: Poseidon is very pokey... he lives to poke your face with his fish-ness. If he gets close to you, then he will be able to burst you down with relative ease, so try to get some CC on him and take him out quickly, or use a ranged God on him. CC is your friend with him, especially stuns. Stuns destroy Poseidon.

4. I have never found Apollo to be that difficult, despite his high mobility. I suggest that you either wreck him with CC, or burst him before he can escape. If you cannot deal damage in time, he will get away and he can do it rather easily.

5. Thor: Stay away from his Beserker Barrage whenever possible, because that **** hurts. If you have lifesteal, then you can 1v1 him pretty easily, but if not do not assume that you can outdamage him. Be fast, know when to attack, and his OP-ness won't be too tough.

6. Loki: The ranter's favorite. This one is easy: Never be alone. Ever. He will find you and you will not enjoy when he does. If you are low on health, always expect that he will be behind you. If you are at full health and he does find you, do not turn around. Take Loki head on. If you have an AoE, use it to keep yourself as safe as possible. He can be taken down easy if you're smarter than he is.

7. Ra: I really hate his heal after the latest patch, and I think that it's a bit overpowered honestly. You have to outdamage him, and you have to do it when his heal is on cooldown. If not, he can heal most of his health bar back and he does a **** ton of damage for a "support" god (my ***).

8. Sobek: The OP of tanks. If he has someone behind him, stay away. He will find you, and you will not be happy of the outcome. Stay back and try to poke him if you can, but melee Gods can have a problem with him. If he is by himself, he is not that scary, but his OP-ness can get in the way so deal what damage you can and get out before he can Ult you.

9. As an Ao player with skill, I can say that if you can gank Ao and get some CC on him, then he is gone. Unless you're me... but that's another story. You have to get close to him which can be difficult, but when you can he is relatively easy to take down.

10. Agni: Dear God... the best poke mage ever. He is tough, really... I always have problems with him. Your best bet is, obviously, CC. Get close, CC that *****, and get him before he can burst you down.

That is the best I can do. Things like this are difficult.

Very informative and I can agree with the majority of that. Any idea what gods specifically would counter any of them, going off your strategies, Jararo? As in, in a draft pick, say you are a mid and the other team locked in Agni or Ra. Who would you pick to face off against them in lane?
But I do like the take you did on the thread as well. This can be a double faceted thread!

Oh dear, poor Ymir.

As for the counter-gods, I am afraid that I cannot. I am having a hard time thinking of who would be good counters, but they are not coming to me at the moment.

This. Backflip is the crux of 's kit. It not only provides her with an escape, but also a means to deploy s when she needs them most. Take those two things away from her with Cripple, and she's at a great disadvantage.

Alternatively, assassins like and can make short work of her as well, killing her before she has the chance to escape too far.

Waiting on a good new MOBA, please.

Fenpup for sure (for ), she will likely panic and backflip as soon as you use your lunge on her, which i just found out brings him with you
