You can play practically any game that isn't a MOBA and find communities to be far friendlier than this on average, all the time. Even games like Rust and DayZ have more nicer people on average than MOBAs, its frightening.

Personally, I think its the fact MOBAs are treated like a competitive sport is what attracts so many bad people. Because MOBAs are a common genre for e-sports, it practically gives everyone the right to criticize how you play to the point of being pure vitriol. And its sad, because removing the promise of money for competitive tournaments could mean the death of Smite (or any other MOBA for that matter).

Most people in Smite care for one thing: Victory. This is especially true if you play league matches. If you're not helping them win, then they view you as the cancer rather than the other way around.

MOBA - Because fun is overrated.

need to agree. but in every team game you have people the people that care about one thing and one thing only the win. If they lose they will always blame the team for it (even if the team didn't feed and the player did). And because the human always wants too win (see sports) some players don't even play a MP game for fun.

(My own brother is kinda in this category, But at least he know who to blame even himself sometimes.)

I come from MMORPGs like LOTRO & COX.. and never experienced abusive players.
However as a woman I can attest that once players know you're a female they're far more forgiving..

I've figured out a way to pick men from women in SMITE though. I've played with friends of both sexes while using "Razer Comms" & "Skype"...

-Men- are more aggressive, they'll rage & swear, smash their keyboards & abuse team members..
They tower dive for kills & will chase you even past Phoenix's if they can.

-Women- Do not play as aggressively, we rarely push on towers without minions moving in first.. I have never once tower dived, neither have my female friends who play (we've discussed this all in great detail) We will only chase an enemy until they reach a team mate or a tower, then shortly after we retreat back to our minions..

Also, if in duo and one enemy player gets to about 100 HP the men will almost always chase, even with the other enemy god with most HP running right behind him..

I've witnessed that unfold hundreds of times... usually both enemy gods survive & the testosterone fueled dumbo gets what he asked for.

I know their are many men smart enough to know better & do not do this..
But unfortunately.. most do.

I don't think the issue is really male vs. female, but rather MOBAs are very competitive, your chances of being punished are slight, and of course, you're anonymous, so real-world punishment is nonexistent.

But yeah, I noticed that players are really forgiving to girls too.
Is it wrong that when I'm being badmouthed I'll casually slip in that I'm a girl so people will back off?

SmiteFire & Smite

Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions.
