So I was on reddit today and someone said Watcher's Gift is not worse than Mark of the Vanguard for supports. His argument is that Mark of the Vanguard is pretty much useless unless you are against Ares/ Ah Muzen Cab and that pretty much you would be better of buying "for example, Iron Mail + 1 Healing Potion".

I still think picking up Watcher's Gift in the current meta is like asking to get killed because of the aggresive early game that's going on, Mark of the Vanguard will allow you to survive minion aggro early which is a huge deal.

What is your opinion on this topic? Which starter item is better in your eyes?

Well Winged Blade is also really viable on slow supports like ymir. Otherwise i prefer Mark since i love to roam/gank alot. But it is still kinda too soon for me to say, in which situation what item would be always the best.

I like Winged Blade on Ymir but who else needs it? Probably Sylvanus?

well I think I know why it changed but still I like to take watchers gift as an advantage in money can be a big advantage. and mostly I play with a pre made adc that can 1v2 if I need to back early

What makes watcher much stronger than i thought that even if tower last hits or amother minion you still earn the extra gold

They're buffing Watcher's Gift giving it +5 MP5 so its viability is hopefully coming back regardless.

It's not a huge difference, but +5 MP5 on a mana hungry support would mean 1 less mana pot needed at the start if you plan to lane for a while, and a few less as the game progresses. With the current meta giving supports so little gold, I feel like it adds something to its value.

SmiteFire & Smite

Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions.
