I'm attempting to figure out what Gods I should be focusing on acquiring and playing.

Problem is I don't know which Gods are best out of the current roster of 40. Which ones suck, which ones I should never touch..that sort of thing.

I've heard Bastet is someone you shouldn't use, and Tyr is broken as a pickle. Anything else similar to this?

I was thinking of picking up Athena next but I don't know how well she fares compared to other Tanks like Odin and Bacchus..?

athena great tank if you use her right.

any new god is good and that is because of the power creep that is going on.

hun batz, loki and ne zha great assassins but loki and ne zha can be very difficult for new players.

anhur, apollo and neith are the top picks for ranged carry. anhur has a few difficult abilities so read up on him before you play him. apollo nees to put pressure on the map in mid/late game. and neith needs to help with cc and damage.

there are a lot of great mages. hebo, agni, mr.wiggelz(ao), chang'e and isis etc.
chang'e and isis are great supports and can get a lot of damage mid/late game. hebo (personal favorite) can put out a lot of damage in all stages of the game, agni gets high AOE burst as well as poke at level 5, and ao is great at keeping controle. there are more good mages but here are just a few.

good tanks are ymir, sobek, bacchus and athena. these are the pure tankst though some will build athena mage bruiser like. keep in mind that these are about setting up kills, keeping controle, being bullet sponges and heavely cc based gods.

bruiser tanks are ares, guan yu and hades. these can put a lot of damage out and soke damage up but while they can put a lot of damage out i costs them time and can be stopped.

in competive play you will likly never see mage bruiser tanks but they are around.

good pysical tanks and bruisers odin, tyr, thor, herc and fenrir.
odin has good substain and can do a good bit of damage but his ult gets kinda easy to escape from.

tyr is really strong and a bit broken so wait till you play him to see what hirez does.

thor has great jungle clear and is pretty tanky. keep in mind that the back swing on his hamer can do a lot of damage. thor is just thor.

herc never dies well usually never dies. his 3 makes him so redicoulessly tanky that it just becomes a zoning tool. his rock is very lethal in the jungle and he can flip and push you in to tower range.

fenrir is a great jungler because of his 2, his passive and his 3. is you stack his passive up it will do a part of the damage done with his 3 on near by enemies. his 2 gives him strait power and a good chunck of life steal. his ult is a great initaition tool and can start team fights of right.
never forget dawngate and never forgive EA. Freia will hunt them for eternity.

It depends what you like more. Are u a jungler? Magical or Physical? I love to play with Arachne (because of their eggs) and love either play with Freya. Try to practice with all the gods, so you can find what you most like and buy him/her!

Yeah, I highly recommend practice mode. I've never rented a god because I've always practiced first. Practice, and buy whomever you like. You may go 20-0 in practice, then go 2-8 in real play, so keep that in mind.

Every god, except Tyr, is reasonably balanced. The new gods are slightly easier to play, but not broken. I used to regard Cupid as the worst god, but then I played against one that went 17-2 in conquest. My friend plays Bastet almost every game and always has a good K/D. It's all about who you are best at and who fits your play-style. No one god is much better than another.

With this said, I highly recommend the god pack. It is worth the money. I thought that I wouldn't have anything to work for once I bought it, but that is not the case. It opens up the game and causes less stress on your part, because you are less worried about which god to buy next.

Anubis is extremely fun , as long as you don't rush on your own and stay with the team you might get a lot of kills. Try every God in practice mode and see whoever fits best to your style then buy the one you like .

Bastet is ok , she is the 2nd God I bought and I had my fun playing Bastet in Arena . She is a fine assassin and her 1st skill really helps in securing a kill that otherwise seems lost and easily get away from "the crime scene" .Her second skill combined with her Ultimate can also do a lot of damage in early game , anyway , overall , Bastet is pretty underrated .

Although Anubis is not recommended for non-mage players as the first mage pick. You need to know how to use hit his 2, hard as **** to hit sometimes.

In general, try to stick to the type of gods you like playing. If you like Mages, go for Mages. If you're a good tank, go for tanks, maybe even bruisers. Just watch streams or try all the gods on the practice mode.

I really like Ao Kuang, Ra is ok but not a big wheee.

My main problem with the melee ones is the fact that the enemy always simply walks away. I tried out Odin and the only way I could stick to them was using my ultimate, which isn't always an optimal choice.
