I set up a list of items I want to appear in the game via the character builder. I also set up the abilities I wanted.

Neither appear when I pick that god in the game.

What do I need to do to make it take effect?

Press the 'Save Changes' button.
If it still doesn't save your build, press the 'Clear All' button and then build it again and then press 'Save Changes'.

Still doesn't work. I just get the default set. I even did the "clear all" and then "save profile". I reset both the abilities and items.

Also, when I get in the game, I have a drop down for "Arena" or "Lane", but neither is my custom set.

Uh. You save it, but it'll not be on that list. It'll be on the items > favorite, if I recall correctly.

Not really. If a guide helped someone, like ''oh my god thanks for this guide now I know how to play this god :)'' then it would be nice to get upvoted, since it helped.

SmiteFire & Smite

Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions. Smite is inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA) but instead of being above the action, the third-person camera brings you right into the combat. And, instead of clicking a map, you use WASD to move, dodge, and fight your way through the detailed graphics of SMITE's battlegrounds.
