Anubis is pretty good mage even for beginners but it can be very good if well played. His passive is based on lifesteal and when snowballing his health regen can make him win 1v3 pretty easily. He can be countered easily by basic anti heal but enemies normally start playing anti anti heal late game so you have time to snowball. His ultimate makes him op but you can as well get kills with his 3 and his 1 (and the stun of course).
Anubis skills are based on pure damage except for his stun. He has no escape but the crazy amount of lifesteal he has makes it ok-ish. What you want to do is basically throw your 3 right under the opponents feet, the stun while he is in and then use your 1 if close enough and your ult in desperate cases or if the 1 can't reach the enemy. You can play mid two different ways, either aggressive or passive. If you want to play aggressive then use your 1 to clear by positioning in the perfect place to hit all minions (archers and warriors), if enemy jungle then ganks you, just place your 3 under your feet and wait for the 1 to get cool down and stun + 1. if you want to play passive, just do as I just said but clear with the 3 and use your stun to get away from ganks if the 3 is not available.
As much as you can go and kill harpies on right and clear lane then go left harries, red buff and come back. Anubis having a pretty good clean and decent amount of damage against jungle creeps this can be easily done. Of course, if asked, wait for your jungle so you don't steal all his xp.
Pros:
Nothing much to say apart from you are trying to get your bancroft as fast as possible so can start healing from everything and take fights 1v2 against enemy mid and jungler. If you want to change the build make sure to have enough penetration and lifesteal. If at the very beginning you get countered by anti heal, go full penetration after the bancroft and replace typhoon claws by spear of desolation and replace boots with obsidian shard. The doom orb is for snowballing and rotating to duo lane fast, chronos pendant for cool down and heated ring for season 7 changes to come and sustain on creeps.

And Ring of Hecate on Anubis???
Either remove S7 from the title or change the build.
Go-to build guess for S7: Mage's Blessing, Bancroft's Talon, Shoes of Focus, Spear of Desolation, Spear of the Magus, Charon's Coin, Magi's Cloak, Rod of Tahuti. Option for Typhon's Fang (but note that anti-heal will still be very strong).
Also if my build even had Magus in, it would be after Charon's Coin, not before, especially since Typhons seems to be late or missing from the build.
I don't know about Magus, to be honest. I know it's a significant nerf, but the bonus damage on ticks seems like it's still fairly perfect for Anubis, and without calculating all the numbers, seems like it might still be good mid-build.
Yes, Charon's needs stacks, and yes it will provide the first %pen, so yeah, maybe it goes before Magus, but any %pen, and I always mentally slot it 5th or later.
I WOULD be curious to see the general numbers for Magus and how it might work for him.
gods like Kukulkan probably will look to something else
