Hello peoples! My name is Quaerenti, and I am ********ting this guide! :D
I am doing the exact same thing I did with my Nox guide (which was playing one game with her and making a full guide on her).
SO I PLAYED ONE GAME WITH AO KUANG, AND THIS IS MY FULL LENGTH GUIDE ON HIM BASED ON SAID GAME. PLEASE HELP!
I'M DESPERATE.
P.S. I did play Ao Kuang when he was a smart*** of a dragon with a lot of damage. But his rework looks amazing if I do say so myself. WHITCH I DO.
Polynomicon- I chose this because Ao Kuang is a beautiful God of DRAGONS AND SWORDS AND HE FREAKING MELEES THE **** OUT OF YOU.
So basically his 2 ( Dragon Call), works best (IN MY OPINION), in it's melee format. So using his 2, coupled with Polynomicon, should be completely enough to obliterate your enemies.
That being said, most of his items are for the pure magical damage or attack speed. (Yes, he does need some attack speed)
I only played one game with him, and I didn't test out almost all of the items listed above. So feel free to comment your opinion of how stupid I am for making this guide! :D
He does need protections, as he has to get up close and personal to kill anything, so protections are definitely a great start.
His actives are generic actives, just to get around (as his Water Illusion ability doesn't teleport him far), and to stay in the battle.
His passive, King's Sword, is where his MIGHTY SWORD charges itself for battle, then it does bonus damage damage if it's holding a charge. It regenerates charges when you're not in battle, and if you run out of mana, he uses the charges to cast his skills. It holds up to 3 charges, so that's like, 2 or 3 abilities, i dunno I'm failing math.
His 1, Water Illusion, is basically an escape or minion killer. Much like Loki's Decoy ability. He teleports forward (about 10 feet, which isn't too great), and leaves behind a watery version of himself, (Which is obviously a trap and nobody ever goes near it). But it's really useful since after he teleports he stays invisible until he takes damage, he detonates the water illusion, or it detonates itself (after 5 seconds). This is a beautiful escape, but easily countered. (I'll explain this later, in the Teamwork and Strategies chapter).
His 2, Dragon Call, is exceptionally useful. He calls forth a bunch of dragons to cuddle and rub up around him. But if he attacks someone, they become enraged and attack the target player (Per each basic attack done). Or he can choose to shoot them all out at one time in a rather wide path. I personally prefer the basic attack version because skill-shots are hard to make when you panic or are rushed. (It also slows enemies for 30%, no matter what rank)
His 3, Wild Storm, is really fun and easy to use. He basically launches forward some lightning thingies and they hit the enemy in a really tight cone. But this ability is really fun because it counts as a basic attack. (This means that his Dragon Call ability is used in this ability, so a dragon attacks the enemy also when you attack them with this attack) I'm not sure because I haven't tested this, but theoretically this means that you can stack his 2, and Polynomicon's passive together, for massive amounts of damage. :D
His ult, is by far the coolest ability. It has two effects, much like his Dragon Call ability.
The first effect: He attacks an enemy within melee range (Which is pitifully small), throwing them up into the air and dealing damage to them.
The second effect: This is my new favorite ability. If the enemy is within a certain health threshold (Much like Thanatos' ability Hovering Death), then Ao Kuang transforms into a FREAKING SKYBEAST AND EXECUTES THEM WHILE SHOWING OFF HIS MAGESTIC GRACE. Then he flys away and lands wherever the Hel he wants (And deals damage in a small AoE). 'cuz he don't give no *****.
His ult is risky though because it has a small hitbox. So you can't charge in and really expect to land it, you should already be in range for it since he is a melee mage and all. The hardest part for me was landing it in the heat of battle, as for some reason when I'm close to someone, I completely panic and start flailing my arms. XD
He is really good with a tank, or other melee character. A ranged mage might help him, but since he is a melee mage he would probably get in the way of their abilities and basic attacks. I feel like he would work best with someone who has some stuns, like Sylvanus or Bacchus.
The best way to play him would most likely be jungler though, as I just read Zilby's guide on Ao Kuang, and that's what he's saying. So build him like a tanky-assassin-mage-dragon-sword-killer dudebro. XD
I would also venture to say that he could smash with solo, but only if he were against another mage or assassin.
Pros-
-High basic attack damage
-High Damage in general
-High number of skill combinations
-Unique build, skills, and look etc.
-A MIGHTY SWORD
-DRAGONS
-A MIGHTY FREAKING SWORD
Cons-
-Long(ish) cooldowns
-Pretty squishy without protections
-No witty phrases anymore :(
-Abilities have smaller than usual hitboxes (With the exception of his Dragon Call)
-NO MORE "A MIGHTY STORM"
Ao Kuang is truly a unique mage. He is like freya, but with his own completely unique skillset and advantages. He has great potential as a mage, and I love where Hi-Rez is going with their Gods now. I know a lot of people don't like Nox, but I think that she is really unique as well!

No Demonic Grip?
I recently bought Ao Kuang, and yes, demonic grip is possibly the best item for him. :D
No Demonic Grip?
Like I said, I've on;y played him once, and personally I've never used Demonic Grip. So sorry for not adding that, I might add it in a later update.
