Introduction

Vulcan is a mage with ranged, magical basic attacks. He is my favorite god in Smite and hopefully this guide will help you forge your own victory.

I've played a lot with Vulcan and he is a very strong god. The trouble I have had with him while playing with "randoms" is he's easy to kill.
This build helps provide Awesome Power and not letting your team down.

Pros versus Cons

Pros
+ Good Pusher
+ High Damage
+ Easy to Clear Waves
+ Damaging Escape
In my opinion Vulcan is a very well balanced god when built properly. Whether your playstyle is aggressive or defensive Vulcan can make it work.

Cons

- Slow
- Earthshaker hard to hit at a distance
- Inferno Cannons are easily destroyed by other gods
- Backfire as an escape is a short distance
The best way to play Vulcan is from a distance and knowing when to fall back since his escape isn't all that great for up close combat

Skills

Heavy ShotHeavy Shot
Passive
After using any ability, Vulcan's next basic attack within 3s will slow an enemy. This slow cannot be triggered more than once every 5s.

Slow:20%
Slow Duration: 2s

Backfire
Projectile/Dash
Vulcan's blast a fireball forward dealing damage to enemies in front and marking one enemies as priority for his cannon increasing damage by 10%.

Damage: 80/120/160/200/240 (+80% of your magical power)

Inferno Cannon
Pet
Vulcan's places a cannon on tube ground that fire at anything in its cone shaped range.

Damage: 45/70/95/120/145 (+35% of your magical power)
* Vulcan's penetration is also applied to the Inferno Cannon

Magma Bomb
Ground Target
Vulcan tosses a bomb that damages and knocks back his enemies in a 15 unit radius.

Damage: 70/120/170/220/270 (+70% of your magical power)

Earthshaker
Ground Target
Vulcan's fires a rocket that starts out at 50% damage that increases the further away the target is from him.

Damage: 400/520/640/760/880 (+130% of your magical power

Items and Explanations

Speed and Cooldown is needed right out the gates. Vulcan is Mana-hungry so we like mana and the magic power will fall in line shortly

warlock's sash Getting an item to stack early in the game is beneficial so you have enough time to max it out. The sash also adds to our power, mana, and health helping Vulcan not be so squishy early on.

Now we have our Cooldown maxed out and growing in power while regenerating MP5.

Thank to CAKESLAPPING for suggesting I use this. He has a solid point. What good is all that power without some penetration

The health building serves a dual purpose with the staff. 2% of your max health gets converted to magic power

Let the fun begin! This is a must for all mages. And hitting Earthshaker after this I chose to build it last due to keeping the balance of staying alive late game.

Summary

I love balancing power with some added healh to stay in the fight. Since Vulcan's Magma Bomb and Earthshaker are easily avoidable it doesnt really make a lot of sense to me to stack just power. Getting lucky isn't really a good strategy. Be smart use your Inferno Cannon and Magma Bomb to guide the where you want your aother abilities to hit.

Hey xxSHARKxx, just wondering, do you mean for this build to be a for a specific mode? If so, which one(s)? If it was for conquest, I'd expect to see a starting item, but there is none. Considering adding this to the list we have for SMITEFIRE Needs Help, but would like to see this clarified for readers first.

This build is excellent...went 14-0 in a joust match and easily led player damage :)

I built Shoes of the magi, book of thoth, obsidian shard, rod of tahuti, polynomicon and any other like bancroft's talon or chronos's pendant. This had over 700 power, poly did about 500 and i did some real damage, but died more than i killed. This build has about 630 and i can outlast Ra's ult and pretty much anything, i think arena is going to hurt a ton >:D. Thanks for the clever build. :)

Great build. I'm new to this game and like mages but no matter which one I played I seemed to get my arse kicked. I was about ready to delete the game. Thought I'd give it one last shot using Vulcan and this build. Found it fitted my playstyle perfectly and I'm doing really well now. Such a strategic and fun god to play. Thank you for showing me the light.

With no penetration in your build the actual damage you will be dealing will be considerably less than the numbers stated in your summary.
I'd recommend switching out Soul Reaver for Obsidian Shard, as the extra damage you'll get from the penetration will amount to much more than Reaver's passive over the course of the game.

Thank you CakeSlapping,
I was hoping someone would give me some feedback and I was thinking of replacing Soul Reaver. I just wasn't sure with what.
