Hello Everybody!
You are reading my guide for Hades. In this guide, I will tell you everything I have experienced so far, and give you my personal opinions and suggestions. Please note, this is not a guide for you how to must play Hades. Feel free to test it, and then it is your call if you like it, or not. I only ask you to rate my guide, and leave a comment why did you like, or did not like it.
This guide is for pure tank build for Hades, so please dont talk to me how Magical Hades is better. Since Hades is a ranged melee mage support tank (dafuq? ranged melee mage support tank?), it means you have to be in the face of the enemies. I tested Hades as magical damage dealer, but since I have to be in the middle in the fight, i was bursted down and killed easily as hell (bahh, noob...), because if the enemy will not jump out of your ultimate, they have no other choice than attacking you. Then I tested some hybrid build, a tanky magical Hades, but I did not like it. My damage was kinda low, and wasnt enough tanky to survive long enough for a full teamfight. So I prefer the full tank build. I think Hades is more useful as a tank, because he has strong area CC (slow, fear, silence, pulling enemies toward him), that is more important than his damage.
Keep in mind that there is no build you can use everytime, many depends on the enemy and your team, but I found this build fairly acceptable for the most of the game.
So lets get start it, follow me to the Underworld!
Blight
Official Description:
Hades' normal staff attacks apply a debuff to the enemy, called Blight. This debuff stays on the target and can be refreshed. If an enemy is afflicted by Blight, each of Hades' other powers have an additional effect.
Ability: Debuff
Affects: Enemy
Duration: 5s
Personal Note:
When you applying Blight onto enemies, try to apply it as many enemy as you can, before you use an ability, so you hit more target with the additional effect. This is important, because the cooldown of your abilities are very high, even with 40 % cooldown reduction.
Death From Below
Official Description:
Hades descends into the ground and erupts from below at his ground location, doing damage to all enemies in the area. If the enemy is Blighted, they are also slowed. Applies Blight.
Ability: Ground Target
Affects: Enemy
Damage: Magical
Radius: 20
Damage: 50 / 90 / 130 / 170 / 210 (+70% of your magical power)
Slow: 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 %
Slow Duration: 2s
Cost: 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70
Cooldown: 12s
Personal Note:
This is a very important ability for engaging and starting a teamfight, or can be used as a perfect escaping skill. Because it applies Blight onto enemies, it is mostly used for attacking, so you will not have to apply Blight one by one, and you can use your other ability for the best use of it with the additional effect. If you need to escape or flee, feel free (ba-dum-tss) to use it.
Remember, it is never worth to kill an enemy, then die, and give them a kill and several assists.
Shroud of Darkness
Official Description:
Hades silences all enemies in a cone in front of him. If the enemy is Blighted, they are also feared. Consumes Blight.
Ability: Cone
Affects: Enemy
Silence: 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2 s
Cost: 80
Cooldown: 15 / 14 / 13 / 12 / 11 s
Personal Note:
Many people find this ability useless. In my opinion, this is the strongest ability of Hades. With the silence, you prevent the enemies to use any ability, and you can also interrupt a lot of spell, like Anubis' Plague of Locusts and Arachne's Drain Life and so on. If your targets are Blighted, you even fear them, and they start to run away with reduced movement speed, allowing your teammates to kill them, or you can simply save your teammates lives. If you can handle this skill, you can always fear 3-4 enemies for 2 seconds. Just keep practicing.
Devour Souls
Official Description:
Hades devours the souls of his enemies, dealing damage in a radius around him. If the enemy is Blighted, the enemy explodes dealing damage to nearby enemies and healing your allies. Consumes Blight.
Ability: Area
Affects: Enemy
Damage: Magical
Radius: 20
Damage: 75 / 110 / 145 / 180 / 215 (+60% of your magical power)
Detonated Damage: 20 / 27 / 34 / 41 / 48 (+50% of your magical power)
Detonated Healing: 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 (+15% of your magical power)
Detonation Radius: 20
Cost: 65 / 75 / 85 / 95 / 105
Cooldown: 15 / 14 / 13 / 12 / 11 s
Personal Note:
This ability is mainly used for healing yourself and your nearby allies. You can heal almost 50% of your maximum health if you max this ability first, especially on low levels. Jump into the middle of a full minion wave with Death From Below, then use Devour Souls. Lets count some... at level 5 Devour Souls, you get 70 heal per blighted enemy. A minion wave have 3 ranged and 3 melee enemy. If you can Blight them and hit them with Devour Souls, you and your teammates will be healed 420 health. I think that is pretty awesome. But this ability have no more use for you than healing and dealing minor damage to enemy gods when you build tank.
Pillar of Agony
Official Description:
Hades calls to all enemy souls nearby, pulling them closer to him over time, doing damage every .5s for 4s. If the enemy is Blighted, their protections are reduced.
Ability: Area
Affects: Enemy
Damage: Magical
Radius: 30
Damage per Tick: 45 / 60 / 75 / 90 / 105 (+30% of your magical power)
Protections: 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80
Protections Debuff: 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30
Protections Debuff Lifetime: 4s
Cost: 100
Cooldown: 90s
Personal Note:
Let's get one thing straight. Hades is officially expressed as a "Very Easy" god. Forget it! Hades is one of the hardest god in the game. Not because of his abilities, but because of you. Yes, you... If you want to be useful for the team, you have to watch for a lot of things. Mainly, you must check when the enemy used their escaping ability. This is the most important, because Pillar of Agony does NOT prevent enemies to use any movement ability, and since almost every God have, they will just simply jump out from your ultimate. So you have three options. First, you play with huge opened eyes, and never blink, so you can check when enemies escaping abilities are on cooldown, and then engage with Death From Below and use Pillar of Agony. Second, you engage with the same way, but when you arrive, you silence or fear as many enemies as you can, and then you can use Pillar of Agony. With it, you can keep them inside your ult for 2 seconds because of the silence, they cannot use their abilities. The third option is simple but risky. You just wait. When the enemy engage, probably they will use their jumping ability as an offensive skill, and then you can lock them inside your Pillar of Agony. These options may be easily imagined, but really hard to complete. There are other options of course, but you will need teammates who can cooperate very good. There are some abilities that prevent enemies to use any abilities, like Ares' Shackles or Cupid's Fields Of Love, so you can combine your skills, and the enemy wont be able to jump out of your Pillar of Agony. This is why Hades is a very hard God that needs a lot of practicing, experience, and a good team to be useful.
Reinforced Greaves
Official Description:
Cost: 700/525/915 gold
25 Physical Protection
25 Magical Protection
15 HP5
UNIQUE - +18% Speed / +26% Speed while out of combat (Speed does not stack with other boots).
PASSIVE - Resolve - 20% reduction to all crowd control durations.
Personal Note:
I think I dont have to add much commentary. All the defense and the CC reductions are necessary for the tanks, and since there arent any other choices for the tanks, you have to pick this one.
Hide of the Urchin
Official Description:
Cost: 2500 gold
+45 Physical Protection
+45 Magical Protection
+250 Health
+250 Mana
PASSIVE - You gain +2 protections for each god kill or assist (max 10 stacks).
Personal Note:
I suggest you to buy this item as soon as possible. The earlier you buy it, the earlier you can stack the passive protections from it's passive. It gives you minor health, and the mana bonus is really useful, helping you to do not run out of mana easily. In the end, you will have +65 protections with some mana and health boost only for 2500 gold. Everything that is needed for a tank.
Mystical Mail
Official Description:
Cost: 725/1525/2850 gold
+20/40/60 Physical Protection
+100/200/300 Health
AURA - Deals 40 Magical damage per second to enemies within 25 feet.
Personal Note:
Another tipical item for tanks. As I said before, even if your basic attack is ranged, you are a melee tank. When you are in the middle of the enemy team, especially when using Pillar of Agony, you will deal damage every enemies around you. The stats are also cool, giving you health and physical protection.
Bulwark of Hope
Official Description:
Cost: 620/1420/2525 gold
+10/40/60 Magical Protection
+150/300/450 Health
PASSIVE - If you are below 25% Health, you gain a shield that reduces damage by 50% for 1 seconds. Can only occur once every 60 seconds.
Personal Note:
Now that you have another physical protection, you will need to keep your protections in balance. This item will give you magical protection and health. And the passive is very important. As I said before, if you catch the enemy team with Pillar of Agony, they will have only two choice, they jump out with item or ability, or they attack you. If the enemy team get you nearly to be killed, this item will give you more chance to survive. There is another benefit from this item. When any player is on low health, others will ALWAYS attack him, even if the player is a tank. So you can "taunt" them, and this item can keep you alive a little bit longer, giving your teammates the chance to rip the enemy to apart while they are trying to kill you.
Sovereignty
Official Description:
Cost: 875/1500/2550 gold
+25/45/65 Physical Protection
+100/250/400 Health
AURA - All allies within 70 feet gain a +20 Physical and Magical Protection buff.
Personal Note:
Aaaand another tank item. Just the tipical: you need prot and health. Thats okay. The aura gives you and your teammates a minor protections. This is important, especially for the melee gods, who need to get close to the enemy team while you are fighting. And since you will be in the middle of the fight, they will recieve this buff. This little protection bonus can save your teammates life, or can secure kills.
Stone of Gaia
Official Description:
Cost: 835/1480/2250 gold
{30/50/70} Magical Protection
{5/15/25} HP5
{3/6/10} MP5
PASSIVE - Regenerate 2% of your maximum health every 5 seconds.
Personal Note:
I usually buy this item as a last one. You need this for a balanced protection, and it gives you very nice health and mana regeneration. Probably you will not run out of mana from now on. The special of this item is the passive. Gives you HUGE health regen. At max level and full build, you will have around 3750 health. So this item will give you 100 health per 5 seconds, that means 20 health per second plus your basic health regen. With it, you will not need to go back to base to regen. If your team needs you, just retreat for a while, and then you can go back to fight again.
So overall, Hades is very strong in late game, but only if you have enough experience how to use him best, and if your team can cooperate. For the best way to command your team, try to use as many voice command as you can, so you will not waste time for typing.
I hope you enjoyed my guide. Feel free to write your opinion about it, and as I said, I ask you only to rate it. Upvote or down, its your call. :)

Hades set where i went 6-12-4. Although i did not like how low is attack power was i found it very helpful to my team by staying alive and taking damage for them. Also, i could not use the boots you have recommended as they were not available in the store, may want to check on that. But i did replace this with the item that grants you +600 health for 2700 coins (sorry i forgot the name lol)... seemed to be useful giving me almost 4000 health. Anyways, great build and the title "immortal" really does speak for itself.
Nice build. I'm having more success. I do run out of mana more quickly but I'm just getting the jungle buff to help.
:-)Also does this work in joust, siege and arena?
Also, I think you need some help with grammar and the spelling of some things, but I have a feeling that English isn't your first language. If you would like some help with grammar or spelling, please feel free to PM me and I will gladly review and edit for you.
It's not perfect but then again no guide is.
I think the comments people are saying about no having gameplay notes is that they want you to add a seperate section for it and for you to go into more detail or to as more scenarios. You made note of your uses in a team fight but the entire game isn't a team fight. I know you out in some of these other areas but I think people are looking for a bit more.
Onto the items.
As a disclaimer. I don't play hades tank to much so I don't know how well each item works.
What is your opinion on warlocks sash. I don't remember the final total but I believe it gives to a very sizable chunk of health as well as mana.
I personally prefer High CDR for almost every god I play. And I'd imagine you'd want to silence you enemies as much as possible and to have your ult up as soon as possible to help support your teammates. Plus it lets you combo 1 and 3 more often which can help sustain you since the 3 heals you.
Overall good guide and I hope my comment helped
Also, I would likely be royally boned if I were to face you in duo with both hunters rotated. I am not implying that you aren't any good.
But the fact remains that this guide should either be overhauled or demoted to an item build. I'll break down the reasons why one by one.
BBCode does not support a font big enough to express the amount of NO this phrase generates. Hades is a ranged magical tank. There are exactly two ranged melee gods in SMITE: Freya and Ullr. And even then, they are more of melee/ranged rather than both simultaneously. Just because he can be in-your-face does not make him melee. And it goes without saying that tank is a type of support (or at least it does to everyone I've ever heard of). So I agree with your "dafuq?" because I want to know dafuq you were reading to pull this from.
Also, your ability descriptions are the majority of the guide. This is not as it should be. The goal of the "Abilities" section of a guide is to provide an overview of what each one does. The gameplay part (oh, wait, you don't have one) is where all the information on how to use he abilities should go.
Also, given that by some black arcane Internet magics you have made this the top rated Hades guide, you have an obligation to the newbs who just wanna learn Hades to give them more information than this. Six items and a buttload of text about abilities, most of which becomes rambling and TL;DR, isn't enough for them.
My next biggest complaint is how you have responded to the editors trying to give constructive criticism. They have nobly offered their services to help make your guide a better place, and you chew them out for it. Now while I could excuse all the mistakes in the guide itself as just you being a n00b, repeatedly ignoring helpful suggestions (and saying nasty things to the people who suggested them), and that is unacceptable. I quit LoL to try and escape this **** attitude, this "rage if everything isn't perfectly to my liking" attitude that seems to be prevalent among the LoL-ers. I will not tolerate it here.
All that said, there is no reason why this guide can't come to deserve my upvote in the future. When you have managed to mature enough to take constructive criticism, I'll check back and probably change my vote.
TL;DR
Build? Perfectly fine.
Guide? Needs reworking.
Attitude? I'd think you were three.
Suggestions for improvement:
Grow up and learn to revise your guide. Then, apologize to the editors who took time out of their day to give you free advice. Then maybe your guide, not just your set of six items, will deserve the rating it has.
And since I know this is too much to expect of you, I will shortly be publishing a Hades guide that, while it will probably start at this one's level, will actually improve.
Cheers.
