Introduction

Thanatos is a unique god, he uses primarily HP on his skills instead of mana, but in return he has a built in Bumba's Mask and has a good swing chain, which gives a swing that does an AOE and 2x your base damage. He is one of the best junglers in the game because of his ability to kill camps quickly and move on with his life and gank a lane by using his moves that disable. He also has a built in sprint, his "Scent of Death" allows him to pick up speed and when there is an enemy god at low health he gets bonus speed according to the level, this move also gives extra penetration allowing for easier killing. He also has an outstanding silence skill called "Soul Reap" which does a tremendous amount of damage that is in a cone area in front of him which is an easy aim, which is why you priority target it. His other skill is called "Death Scythe" that is a single target scythe you throw at a slow speed that slows the target and knocks off 10% of their health plus additional damage, it also does more damage than soul reap, BUT at the cost of accuracy, it tends to be harder to aim because people can see you throw it at the speed of an icecream truck going down your street. On top of all that he has an ultimate which instantly kills the targeted god if he or she is below a certain percentage of HP, if it doesn't kill the targeted god it will stun and do some damage, this move should be used to secure kills or initiate a battle such as they killing a tower, stun them, silence them, the hurl your death scythe.

Soul Reap

Soul Reap AKA "Mage Bane" is Thanatos' best skill, not because of the damage, not because of the silence, but because of the combination of both. The silence insures that whoever you surprise gank can't react to the gank because they can't cast, it is also easily the most forgotten skill because people usually focus death scythe, which is a huge mistake. If used correctly it can secure the kill, especially when used on someone like Scylla which relies on her abilities to save her, and without those she is a pile of memory foam.

Scent of Death

This move is used mainly to secure kills. Because of it's amazing ability to speed you up when they are low hp it can possibly be the only factor that makes Thanatos a good sweeper, it even surpasses Sprint in speed. This move also gives you penetration which makes for tank busting.

Death Scythe

Another good skill from Thanatos, it rips off one tenth of someones HP with additional damage behind it and heals you for three fourths of the damage you did, don't be fooled though it's the worst skill to upgrade first. Because of it's already given 10% hp off and 20% slow it's already good at level one, you only level this up when you have no other skill points to use. The downfall of this skill is it moves at the speed of two miles an hour which makes it easy to dodge at far away, so you have to get close first to use this skill, but they'll run away or stun you, which is why you focus the silence first so they can't do these things as easily.

Hovering Death

This is by far the best initiation skill Thanatos has, because if the enemy is below a certain percentage of HP it will warn the enemy that you are about to land, so he could use a multitude of things, movement skills, meditation, aegis pendant/amulet, sprint, ect. so you use it to stun them allowing you to chain all your other skills along with any passives if you have any, which is the only reason to get Fist of the Gods.

Starting Items

Some of the most common mistakes I see are people buying Bumba's Mask, and Hand of the Gods. As Thanatos you need neither of these things. Bumba is an alright starter choice because if you kill an encampment you basically get all your HP back, but Hand of the Gods is outright bad, unless you buy it for the end game stun, but you should still keep a slot open for countering gods. Hand of the Gods is bad because your Soul Reap and your basic attack swing chain should suffice the encampment killing, because of the high area damage Thanatos puts out. Deaths Toll is by far the best starting item because of it's HP, attack speed, and life steal enhancements.

HoG kinda is the only option for a jungler, because in high tier, fire giant fights occur frequently, and you will lose 100% of the time without HoG or FoG. You need it or they will beat you to the punch, especially for junglers that can jump over walls and use it, like Bakasura or Bastet.

That's my only tidbit to this conversation :)

Am I the only one who's seen this exact guy Thanatos without HoG and do perfectly fine? Some people have the clear speed to not need HoG. Nemesis, Thanatos, debate-ably Bakasura and Arachne, these are all gods who I have personally jungled without using HoG and carried the entire team. Not to mention that almost every active is situational and he never said that you can't use HoG on Thanatos, just that it isn't the one and only option available in existence.
All of this being said, paraphrase ******* you, and indent while you're at it.

HoG is not a "must have" for every jungler, it's only good with people that have low area damage, thanatos has high area damage, and the killing the gold fury/fire giant/titan is a legitimate strategy, I will definitely include this in the build. I feel actives should be NOT necessary, but just preference of the user

Uhm.... It is. You can secure your buffs and steal the enemies buffs. On top of that, you get a stun.
I'm not a great jungler, but even I know that.

Oh and I don't think the way you have your skill level is exactly possible

EDIT: I think you messed up putting a point in Death Scythe instead of Hovering Death at level 20.

Death's Toll indeed is preferable on Thanatos over Bumba's Mask. But Hand of the Gods is really a needed item, for different uses early and late game. Early game it will help you no fall behind so you can clear buff camps faster since they give less xp and you have more time to focus on mid camps/ganking. Either you keep it tier 1 through the game, which won't be too much benefit since you could clear the camps with ease without it later or pay for tier 3 Hand of the Gods or Fist of the Gods. One is with a nice stun but I prefer the regular one. It's useful taking the gold fury, fire giant, or titan. Say the enemy team is getting the Fire Giant and there's only 2-3 people? HOG it for your team when it's low and escape with Hovering Death or Scent of Death.

Build is pretty good. I think more info overall would help and some BB Coding. Not voting rn, PM me if you edit this around.

Without Hand of the Gods you are going to fall behind without your team helping you to clear camps, simple as that. If the enemy jungle has HOG, he will get ahead unless you pull some crazy early ganks.

Also, unless you accidentally pressed publish, you shouldn't publish a W.I.P guide.

Have you read the BB coding guide and Guidecraftig guide? I recommend you do.

I know it's W.I.P, but you only explain the skills and starting items. Explain the items, add gameplay and jungle routes. Also, the intro is a huge wall of text, add some colours and make it look pretty ;)

And, why don't you get hog?? It's a must have for every jungler

I'm not gonna vote yet, PM me when you feel your guide is finished.
