Hi, Names Anuhnimity, been playing smite for about 2 years now on PS4, this is my first guide so I figured I would do it on one of the gods that I know best.
Sands of Time - Good For early game CDR and Mana Regen
Bumbas Mask - Good For Sustain Allowing you to get camps by yourself early game to get ahead of your opposing mid laner.
Shoes Of The Magi - Good For the power spike and the flat penetration.
Book of Thoth - Nothing Much to say here, permanent stacking item, Strong power spike when you first get the item and then another power spike when you complete your stacks. Only problem is, is that your power takes a good 5-10 minutes to get online, dependingon how proficient you are at farming.
Gem Of Isolation - The 25% Slow combined with your crippling whirpool is such an annoyance early game. The moment you get Gem Of Iso online is when you want to start fighting more, You'll be able to put out a lot of safe damage while burning relics on the other team.
Hastened Ring - Yes, Hastened Ring on Poseidon will be a thing, the GemTalis effect combined with your Whirpool and your Trident means nobody is going to be getting away from you any time soon.
Spear of The Magus - At this point in your build your going to be putting out a lot of consistent safe damage, your Kraken will still be bursty just wont have the 1 shot Potential as much as a bursty build would have.
Bancrofts Talon - Good for sustainability, Its passive is extremely strong, especially if your someone who tries to Kraken before death.
Obsidian Shard - You want to get Obsidian Shard before the team fights start to happen, taking 33 percent of the tanks pretections means your doing a lot of damage to even the tankiest targets. Plus it also provides a good power spike.
Rod Of Tahuti - No Shock that Rod of Tahuti is the last item in the build, this will skyrocket your damage, it also provides your biggest power spike in this build, and also in the majority of other builds.
At Level 1 you should be upgrading your Whirlpool, Followed by your Tidal Surge, Then your Whirlpool, Then your Tidal Surge again, Followed by your Kraken, Since leveling up your whirlpool Reduces its cool down, that (besides your Kraken) should be your priority to level up. I usually dont level the Trident until level 6 to optomize early game clearing. The levels that you should look to fight at are 5 and 9 in the early game. At level 7 your whirlpool should have 4 points in it your Tidal Surge, your trident, and your ultimate should all have one point in it, at level 8 save a point and at level 9 level up your ultimate and your Whirlpool. From there on your upgrading your Tidal Surge and your Ultimate, only upgrading your 2 when your forced too.
What to do in the Jungle Typically you want to stay with your jungler until around level 5 , at that point you should have 3 points in your whirlpool, that will help you clear camps substantially quick. Now a lot of people dont agree with this because your putting the jungler behind, but as long as hes getting kills and experience from the 3 lanes, you getting the camps shouldnt set anyone behind. Constant farming from the lanes and camps should put you substantially ahead.
In Conclusion, Poseidon is an amazing god and has a lot of utility in his kit, although He has his drawbacks, like not having a dash for an escape for example, but when played right he can literally destroy any team he goes up against, and remember always spam laugh after every kill :).
Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions. Smite is inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA) but instead of being above the action, the third-person camera brings you right into the combat. And, instead of clicking a map, you use WASD to move, dodge, and fight your way through the detailed graphics of SMITE's battlegrounds.

So a good example would be: Shoes of Focus, Telkhines Ring, Demonic Grip, Spear of the Magus, Hastened Ring and Rod of Tahuti. Telkhines Ring would probably be better keeping than Shaman's Ring as the ADC build has not got a high power item other than Rod of Tahuti, as Telkhines Ring can give you a lot of power through it's passive, which should be easy to max its stacks with Poseidon's Whirlpool. Though you can always swap Telkhines Ring for a high power item for second slot , e.g. Bancroft's Talon.
Additionally, for your burst or bust build I don't recommend delaying Obsidian Shard to fifth item slot, instead replace the slot of Gem of Isolation with it so Obsidian Shard is fourth slot and Gem of Isolation is fifth slot, that way you don't delay your main penetration item for too long.
Lastly, I recommend trying Tidal Surge at level 1 due to it doing more damage at level 1 and more quickly than Whirlpool (If you only have Sands of Time or Sands of Time + Tiny Trinket giving you an easier chance to clear the wave first (compared to the enemy mid), though its fine to prioritise levelling Whirlpool after you would get it at level 2. Otherwise, you could get Whirlpool at level 1 only if the enemy has to stand in/near the wave to clear.)
