Introduction

This is for general use in things that are not conquest, as I never play conquest.

Items

Well, most of these should be self explanatory, but there are always optional items.
Raijin has a lot of health and decently high base defense, so I'm going for a more tanky but still painful build.

Warlock's Sash:
Stacking health. Once this reaches max stacks and you get Ethereal Staff, you're going to have a whackton of spellpower.
(Replace and get later game with Bulwark of Hope or Hide of the Urchin in Assault.)

Chronos' Pendant:
CDR and MP5, things we enjoy.
Not a fan of CDR? Well... Get the Shoes of the Magi then, or a defensive item if you think you'll need it. A good choice would Bulwark of Hope, gives you enough shield to teleport away from the bad things that are happening to you, and some health for your staff later on.
*I'd suggest keeping it in Assault for CDR, but do what you want. I'm not your wife.

Gem of Isolation:
More health to feed your Ethereal Staff, and a delicious passive that slows people. Why you want the slow will be explained in the abilities, but TL;DR: Ultimate travels sorta slow.
If your teamwork is good and you don't need the slow, you can replace this with Spear of Desolation to really mess up some people's days. "But Manswaggle, it's expensive!" you might say. If your teamwork is good and you're racking up kills, I don't think price is going to matter as much as it would if you were losing.
Once you 'get good' at the ult and don't need the slow, you can switch it out more often and maybe get later game.

Rod of Tahuti:
MP5, and makes your numbers even bigger. I mean, it can give you upwards of 200 spell power late game. Come on.

Ethereal Staff:
Here's what really butters your biscuit, Ethereal Staff. The passive will give you a Raijin sized boost in spell power with the passive and good static health.
I suppose you can get this before Tahuti, but it's up to you. Do you want the extra health sooner or later?

Spear of the Magus:
It got nerfed, but it's still 'ight. As Raijin it's not difficult to get the three stacks with a 2-1 combo and get the max 45 protection debuff stacked.
Optional: Obsidian Shard for higher defense targets. Spear of Desolation if you're rolling in dough and the target is low protections.

Penetration math

Skills

Alright, most of the confusion about this fart shooting bro is the abilities. So, lets break it down.

Percussive Storm:
Shoots a bunch of balls, four total. 1-1-2
Goes through minions and walls until it either runs out of range(65) or hits a god. I build this slowly because I use it mainly to activate 2 Raiju.

Raiju:
This little mother licka hits hard, 260(max) AND 70% OF YOUR MAGICAL POWER. SEVENTY PERCENT!
Throw it at the enemy and if you hit, pop your 1 to activate it and watch the big numbers go. It doesn't matter (it does, but I mean, I'm not going to divorce you, as I'm not you're wife, still.) if you miss and hit a minion and the enemy team is close, as it'll still hit for a bit once you 'activate' it.
So, this activates when you do damage to the target that this is on, then it pops out and does a little Hun Batz' Sacred Monkey deal and jumps around shocking things.
Obviously, I build this first because it hits like a truck.

Thunder Crash:
Ohhhh man, do I love this ability for runners. See that Ra escaping with just a sliver of health left after you 2-1 combo'd? HAHA HA HA! GET STUNNED AND TELEPORTED ON! BATHE IN THIS GLOW, RA! BATHE IN IT!....
So, it doesn't hit particularly hard, but it's good for getting that last little bit of health off somebody.
Oh, and you know, you can use it as an escape too. That's what I mainly use it for.
DO NOT wait until the last second if you're used to "fast" jumps, this has a slight delay(the first bit of damage/stun) before actually teleporting you. You might learn the timing the hard way a few times before you figure it out.
With that said, you don't really need to aim ahead when using it offensively, as the stun happens before the teleport.

Taiko Drums:
This ultimate. This ultimate right here. After you press 4(ultimate button, whatever it may be) you'll get a new bar. Did you want to read those abilities? Yes? Too bad. Learn to read faster.
You get to hit the drums 4 times.
Pretty much what happens is the left click(normal shooting) is just that, the normal shooting ult. Pressing 1 achieves the same thing.
Pressing 2 gives you: taunt for .5 seconds and does 50% damage. This is great for opening, as it'll pull them towards you, and hopefully allows you to hit with the rest of your beats. If you got good teamwork, you won't really need this, unless you need to peel somebody off a teammate, or you're the Athena( Confound ) of the group.
Pressing 3 gives you: fear(maybe you shouldn't have eaten those beans, after all.) for .5 seconds and 50% damage. Similar to the Hun Batz ult, Fear No Evil, the fear makes people go stupid. I find this to be situational, as the ult fires in a straight line and it might be hard to land, but if you feel you need to fear somebody instead of taunt(low health and you just want them to go away), go for it.

And that is pretty much the ult. A common combo is 2-1-1-1 or 2-1-2-1 if they start getting away.

I didn't feel like adding it to the build order, since it can get confusing with how much I get into explaining things. Trying to keep it simple and sweet. It's in the "Items" section.

TL;DR: Raijin ain't fast and other gods stack speed.
I don't bother with boot on jumpers usually, unless I'm melee and I need the boost to secure a kill. If I have a movement buff, like Slipstream, I'll get boots to doubly make sure I can get away, since everyone has boots and movement speed anyway, if they're trying to kill me. With the popularity of Hastened Fatalis on top of boots, I'm either going to get away because of a teleport/jump/save or not.

Eventually, I might get around to explaining Obsidian Shard vs Spear of Magus vs Spear of Desolation, but I doubt I will. http://smite.gamepedia.com/Attack_and_Defense#Penetration_and_Reduction
^ Explains it just fine. Depends on how much armor the target has.

I'm also probably forgetting things because I literally woke up, got some tea, and wrote this guide. It'll need work, I'm sure.

Mhm Okay Then

Also, this is the first mage I've built like this. I never use ethereal or warlock's, unless I'm on a guardian.

All right This build is a bad build for the solo lane because it is tanky and still allows for the damage. A few recommendations I have is make a damage build because in the words of Weak3n and a few other spl players "Rijin is not a tank he is a mage so build him like one" a good build would be
-cdr boots
-doom orb
-obsidian shard
-book of thoth
-chronos pendent
-polynomicon.
Also add a trick section with a few tricks like 2-3-1 for squshy insta kill late game also his 1 is better for clear early game.

lol, i'll update it. I don't play conquest, ever. That is the most toxic cancerous game mode there is.

...and before anyone says anything about having two lifesteal items - Bancroft's is for the early power. I like to play it close so staying out with low life with Bancroft's early nets me a lot of kills. Plus, with all of the damage the build does, 22% lifesteal isn't a half bad defense. Just don't pop in with his three unless you know that you're going to tear everything around you up. Otherwise you may fall victim to the dreaded minion trap. That's actually how I die with him more than anything. After popping in and securing a double or triple kill, I'll find myself surrounded by archers who proceed to finish me off disgracefully as I attempt helplessly to run back to a safe spot to B.

Warlock's has no place on Raijin. This is the build I've been running - I just went 25-4-10 with it in Joust:

Bancrofts Talon
Book of Thoth
Shoes of Focus
Spear of Desolation
Polynomicon
Rod of Tahuti

I was building Soul Reaver but found Poly to be more damaging with the rest of the build. After I mark them with Raiju, I can teleport into them and then instantly basic attack for an instant kill on all but the toughest anti-magic tanks.

I look forward to seeing your guide then.

I have this god mastered and have had amazing games with him. This build isn't what I run. I go shoes focus, book thoth, chronos, obsidian shard, spear deso, and rod tahuti. Warlocks isn't good on this bursty god. Take advantage of his early game wave clear by stacking book.

With a difference in 64 spell power between stacked book and stacked sash, I personally could use the 600 total health from book and ethereal staff to make up for the damage loss from book.

But, don't you think Spear of Desolation would be better for dealing more damage because it offers penetration?
Also, why did you not buy boots? They ARE needed for a squishy god like Raijin for him to gain some movement speed to escape.
