Nox, goddess of the night.
Hello guys, this is my third guide, and obviously it is about Nox!
A couple of tips about Nox:
Tip 1: Nox is incredibly susceptible to magical and physical damage. (She is very squishy)
Tip 2: Build health (and mana) and magical power early game. If she can secure some kills, then she can quickly become a big problem for the enemy team.
Tip 3: Nox is extremely over-powered, use her well.
This is a brief explanation of her items, as they are mostly typical mage items. She does typically need tank items to survive, but in the later game she can go more magical build to secure more kills.
Stone of Gaia: Because you need health and mana, as they are key to your survival.
Gem of Isolation: It provides health and magical power, plus the %25 slow is needed to help secure a kill with her Night Terror ability. (Her ult cancels after 5 seconds or if they move out of range, so the extra slow when hit with an ability helps to hinder their escape).
(Both of these are situational items, and a full magical build does a tremendous amount of more damage at the cost of sustainabilty).
Bancroft's Talon: Because I think every mage should have this, but she especially needs it as her health will deplete quickly, thus gaining her more magical power.
Polynomicon: This is a good item because Nox can fire off an ability against an enemy, then get up close and personal and secure the kill with a Polynomicon-infused basic attack. It also helps with Book of Thoth as it provides mana, and the %10 lifesteal is a great bonus.
Any type of cool-down% item is really good with her, since she has long cool-downs and they don't change with levels.
Nox's skills are some of the most over-powered skills I have seen in mage. I actually level them up per situation since all of her skills are purely situational. If you need damage mitigation or anti-root/slows, then upgrade her 1, if you need to do lots of damage, upgrade her 2,3, and 4.
Her passive, Flame of the Night, is extremely useful for conserving mana. Each time a skill is used, a candle lights up, and once all are lit, you can cast a skill for free. This comes in handy especially for her Siphon Darkness skill.
Shadow barrier
Her first skill, Shadow Barrier, is a good anti-slow or anti-root, as it removes any root or slow for 1 second. It also mitigates any damage you receive by 50/60/70/80/90 for respective level. It isn't going to save your life if your surrounded, but if timed right it can save you against an Ult or hard hitting ability. Like Kukulkan's ultimate, one of Rama's Ult-shots, etc.
nightfall raven
Her second skill: Nightfall Raven, is extremely useful in tandem with her Siphon Darkness skill. If you use (and land) her Nightfall Raven skill on an enemy, then land her Siphon Darkness skill, then the Siphon Darkness skill does double damage. This is amazing for solo or duo fights as you can easily cut through the enemy's health. It also applies silence for 1 second, which isn't great, but it's a start.
Her third skill, Siphon Darkness, is the only really effective skill she has in any fight with more than 1 enemy. It has a 3 second cool-down, and you should spam it as much as you can.
Her ult, Night Terror, is really effective against someone who relies on their skills, such as Warriors, certain Tanks, Mages, and certain Assassins. So basically every class.
It does damage per every skill used by the enemy, so it's basically going to whittle their health down really low and/or kill them if they use skills after you grab them.
Nox is incredibly useful in solo fights, duo fights, but rarely teamfights.
In a solo fight she really excels because she has such a high single target damage. But sadly none of her skills affect a group (unless you get lucky with her Siphon Darkness skill). If you manage to land all of her skills, then engage with some well-aimed basic attacks, then your opponent is basically done for.
In a duo fight you are pretty much still as effective, but also at the mercy of more than one enemy, which isn't ideal for Nox. You can still even out the fight quickly if you land all of your skills (on one enemy I might add). But with the long cool-downs, then you are at their mercy for a little bit.
In a team fight you are basically useless unless you have your team backing you up. You do almost no damage to a group of enemies, so you are very susceptible to multiple enemy attacks. Your one saving grace is that your 3 , Siphon Darkness, has a cool-down of 3 second, so spam that a lot.
Pros:
High single target damage
High damage output
Cons:
Long cool-downs
Pretty Squishy
Very susceptible to assassins

Thanks Guys!
Now after reading a lot of articles on the internet. (Mainly reddit and such), I have found out that most people do not like Nox, at all.
Just about everyone thinks that she is utter **** and no body really likes her. Now granted, she is extremely difficult to use, but I actually do like her. She does a pretty decent amount of damage, and she is pretty good with her custom abilities.
Her ult and 1 are the main things that nobody likes about her. and I do agree that she needs a rework on both abilities, but I think that they are still somewhat useable.

Pretty good build. Many thanks. I was trying to create some own builds for her, but it was impossible. But when i found this build, everything changed. Thanks agains, very good build.
No problem. I actually made this build after only playing one game with her, but I frequently make builds for whatever character i'm playing. Thanks for your input. But sadly, I really don't play nox anymore, I just found that she was too squishy a character and her skills were easily countered. I've played against a few nox's since making this guide (I was playing as another god), and she was alright, but she really lacks in a responsive build. I found that if she is ganked, then she goes down. And by herself she is pretty easily countered and the like. But thanks for reading my guide, it means a lot! :D
Good to see some people are trying to still use her despite her issues. I enjoy her myself.
Have you thought about Polymomicon over Banecraft? Yeah its less powerful, but with the VERY short cooldown of her 3, you can get it to proc quite often, more so then most mages. I like it myself, plus the mana buffs the Book of Thoth damage.
I do like the stone of Gaia Idea, and did run it myself, though then I need to sacrifice cooldown or Pen... I normally remove cooldown and get boots of the magi
Yeah I'm stil working on her. She is pretty difficult to play, but i'll try to polynomicon suggestion out. Thanks!
Thanks for trying to get a Nox guide out there fast. She's a lot of fun, looks cool, sounds cool, but her abilities are somewhat poorly designed. That said, there's a couple things you probably should have mentioned and didn't.
Nox's 1 (shadow Barrier) Only lasts one second and only starts off at 50% mitigation. IIRC it gains 10% per level assigned. What you forgot to mention here is that it also breaks roots and slows.
Nox's 2 (nightfall raven) also briefly silences the enemy. This is one reason that I say her abilities are designed poorly, as her basic attack stops people from using abilities, while her passive requires people to use abilities. That said, the silence effect can be a great boon.
Personally, I'm still working on itemization. I've been using gem of isolation and also divine ruin (if there's an enemy healer), trying to play Nox as a controller and it seems to work ok. I'll have to try your other suggestions as well.
Yeah I understand that, sorry I didn't mention that. I actually made this guide after only playing 1 game with her (joust). After more games, I find that Book of Thoth works great with her, as she has more mana than health
