Introduction

Welcome to my guide for Geb, God of Earth

My name is Cyberhawk. I am a ranked player who primarily plays conquest. I bounce between Support, Jungle, and Solo.

Pros / Cons

Do not. Take me. For Granite.

Pros:
  • Excellent Peel
  • Extremely mobile for a guardian
  • Outstanding Team-fight ultimate
  • Best cleanse in the game
  • Always relevant, even if just to annoy
Cons:
  • Long cooldowns
  • Low clear
  • Only effective in the late game
  • Relies on Blink Rune for initiation
.

Skills

The Earth Moves

Passive - Hard as Rock

Hard as Rock isn’t an ability you ever have to pay attention to. It is always active, and always helping you survive, especially in the current meta with Deathbringer. This lets you tank basics from the enemy hunter much better, so keep that in mind when body blocking.

1 - Roll Out

Roll Out is Geb’s primary form of mobility. It helps you rotate faster, and often will give you a burst of damage and CC when you get there. Try to time using it in rotations so that you enter the lane already CC immune, it makes it much more disruptive. If you miss (common with an ability this hard to turn), immediately cancel out and Shock Wave them. They usually wont expect that.

Note: The top speed of this ability is 754, regardless of movement speed items or effects.
This is leveled last since you are using it for the speed more than the damage.

2 - Shock Wave

Shock Wave is Geb’s main damage ability. Using this at the front of a wave or camp will help your ADC clear, and the point-blank damage isnt bad on gods either. Remember, while the damage reduces with distance, the CC remains the same, and can interrupt channeled abilities like Bludgeon or Ghastly Breath. Level this first for the increased clear and poke.

3 - Stone Shield

Stone Shield is what makes Geb, Geb. The health shield is nice, but the main benefit is the full cleanse of any CC bar Banish. Save people from Ares, Da Ji, and Xing Tian. The one downside is the long cooldown of this ability, and how much spam you will get when you don’t use it to save someone (even if it is on cooldown from when you saved them 8 seconds ago).

4 - Cataclysm

Cataclysm starts off faily weak, just a short duration stun. By late game it will chunk around of the enemies health, stun them for 2 seconds, and combo with Blink Rune for incredible initiation (once every 70 seconds). You want to level this second, as shock wave is a higher priority at low levels, but you want this ready to go by the time you get Blink.

The main things to practice with Geb are:

Watching health bars / CC for Stone Shield saves.
Landing your Roll Out from the right direction.
Hitting multiple targets with Blink Rune + Cataclysm

Items

This Suits Me Well

Starting Items

Guardian's Blessing Needs no explanation. Geb is a support, and doesn’t have the damage for Mage’s Blessing. Make sure to focus on getting assists to stack this quickly and get the gold spooling online. This is a starter item for 100% of your Conquest matches as him.

Chalice of the Oracle and Chalice of Healing are the preferred choice of consumables. You wont be able to start with a tier 1 item with both of these, but the advantages are worth it.

Geb is very mana-light, so Potions aren't needed for mana regen, and this guarentees you 750 health on every back, and 6 wards before they become free.

As a support, you should be warding even more often than everyone else (which with most groups will be none). You should easily get 10-20 wards out of this item over the course of the game.

Relics

Team Support

Core Items
Travelers Shoes
Item 1

Travelers Shoes are the main choice on Geb to boost his strength in mobility. Getting to lane faster, getting in range of Stone Shield, and just general rotation speed. These are great on Geb. If you prefer the CDR from Shoes of Focus, or the tankiness of Reinforced Shoes they are definitely a viable choice.

Note: Geb needs 20%+ CDR for his Blink+Ult combo and Stone Shield. If there are enough magical threats that you will need Heartward Amulet, or enough enemy healing that you need Pestilence, pick Shoes of Focus to make up for the CDR lost from Genji's Guard.

Items 2&3
These are going to be your next two items on most supports, and especially Geb. Which item comes first is somewhat personal preference.

Building Gauntlet of Thebes first means you need to play very passively until it is around 40+ stacks, as you have almost no defenses to speak of. However, it should finish stacking right as you build Sovereignty, so at that point you are good to go in most scenarios (Sacrificing early game bulk for mid game bulk).

Building Sovereignty first means you can play more aggressively against physical gods (especially if they have a Hunter + Warrior support). However, it will take you longer to fully stack your Thebes due to when the laning phase ends (Sacrificing mid game bulk for early game bulk). I would not recommend this option if they have a Magical ADC like Freya.

Item 4
Item 4 will be your Magical Protections item, of which there are 3 common choices for Geb. If the enemy team has several sources of magical damage (like an aggressive support or magical ADC), build Heartward Amulet. If they have a lot of healing (usually in the mage and solo laner), build Pestilence. If neither of these are true, and you didn’t build Shoes of Focus, build Genji's Guard.

Final Items

After these 4 items, you have a solid set of utility or situational options for the last two slots. I personally recommend Relic Dagger to get your initiation combo on a shorter Cooldown, and Mantle of Discord for the added protections; however, all of these are equally viable, and any given one is best for certain situations.

Conclusion

Geb is tons of fun to play. The first time you land a Roll Out from behind and launch some poor mage into your tower will have you laughing.

I hope this guide was helpful to a few of you. See you on the Battlefield!

I don't think I would get Chalice of the Oracle to start with because most enemy teams don't gank very early. Also, Blink Rune + Cataclysm is a great way to disrupt the enemy team mid to late game.

As jgler, you can gank solo/mid as early as level 2, or duo as early as level 3. Level 1 ganks are a thing btw. It's easier to gank at level 5 though.

To add, Level 1 ganks are used mostly by 5-man premades. It's a massive waste of time if the gank fails, but rewarding it works.

Wait what? “Most teams don’t gank very early”? Not 100% sure about that one. Also if you’re going to get Ward chalice then you may as well get it early or not at all

Hey Cyber,

Nice to see that you've come back (see that you originally created your account in 2016) and that you're contributing with comments and guides.

So, Geb. To be truthful, I can't stand the god. He seems sooooooo boring to me. I won't hold that against him though.

You max Shock Wave at level 9...it does pretty good damage especially for a tank...but wondering if level 4 would be enough to help quickly clear jungle camps solo, while you start getting your Stone Shield more online at that point.

I'm okay with your start...have you been finding Guardian's Blessing to have enough mana sustain that you can afford getting both chalices to start? (Or are you getting only Chalice of Healing + some Multi Potions or Mana Potions, and picking up Chalice of the Oracle after your first back? Some clarification here would be helpful unless I missed it somewhere in your writeup)

I don't think Spectral Armor should be considered for Geb. As you mention, he already has reduced crit damage in Hard as Rock, so normal players will know that and automatically NOT want to target him unless he's the only target (which also makes Hide of the Nemean Lion potentially less effective). As such, I feel that other items that have better counter function that helps the team as a whole is often going to be better...you do have Pythagorem's Piece in there, which is one good offensive option, but I think Witchblade (which you don't list), Void Stone (if you have 2 other magical gods on your team and they haven't picked this up), or just more CDR for more Stone Shields would be better.

Also goes with Mantle of Discord and Shield of Thorns, actually...since if the enemy knows what they're doing, they won't be targeting the tank first. Unless you're in the midst of a burst of AOE, the trigger for Mantle's passive won't be of much help to anyone but you...by the time your health is that low, it's very possible that your teammates have already died.

Finally, I think another helpful relic option is Cursed Ankh.

Anyway, would like to hear your thoughts.

Yeah, I didn't play much in season 4, the new map grabbed me hard lol

I actually always thought he was super boring too. Roll Out landing at max speed is fun enough he completely swung for me, and I got him to mastery 5 in a week lol.

Even with maxed Shock Wave, geb has a really hard time clearing camps solo. And that has become super important with the xp changes. I also mostly am using Stone Shield for the cleanse until around 12.

I actually stopped buying Meditation Cloak because I never ran out of mana pre-level 5. I think Geb is one of the least mana hungry supports, since you use basically only 90 mana average per wave (and recover 42 from assists and 30 from mp5). I'll clarify the starting items to specify Blessing+ double chalice.

That... is actually an excellent point on Spectral Armor. I don't like Witchblade on him since he cant use the attack speed, but Midgardian Mail fills the same niche.

Mantle is mostly there for the pile of protections it gives you, especially with anti-tank items being so strong right now. After the first 4 items, you are at ~200 Physical ~190 magical, so you need a good chunk more and it's too late to stack Urchin.

I am actually considering swapping in Spirit Robe instead. Ive been CC chained several times where I could have Stone Shield'd someone, and the CCR on that would help.

Thorns is a good point, especially since it isnt that good early and you'll be getting blink at 12

Thanks for all the feedback on my guides! Its really helping a ton

I'm much more down with Spirit Robe than Mantle of Discord. Cool.

I still think Witchblade is an option (but this is your guide and you definitely have good points too). He'll appreciate the CDR, the little extra health (okay it's not that much), and if you end up getting Shoes of Focus early or late, the added movespeed helps. But it's still mostly about the passive aura to counter basic attackers (both magical and physical) that I find to have the most potential. Sure, the attack speed is a throwaway stat, but I don't know if it's that much of a loss of value given its other benefits.

Also, thanks for the info on the early mana use and whatnot...good stuff.
