Introduction

Hello everyone, I have been playing Zeus since about the 4th of July, 2015. I fell in love with his style once I figured out how to play him. Which is what i'm here to help you do.
PS: This is my first guide so thank you for taking the time to read through my thoughts and Zeus and definitely give him a try. If you have any questions or concerns don't be afraid to ask. I'll always be around to fix this guide

Background

I'm still relatively new to Smite and saw that Zeus was in the game and I had to have him. Once I did I got the hang of him rather quickly and sent him to Mastery X even faster. He is my only god that is that mastery, currently. I love using him and always tweaking my build but this is my current favorite. Below you will see what i've got so far as items and skill usage, it covers things pretty well.

Items

This build is a very simple build as stated above. All it is is a ton of magical power and a full cooldown. So let's get this started:

Shoes of the magi: I use these because Zeus is very mana hungry in the early game until you can buy the Book of Thoth. Plus 40 magical damage is just the start of his build

Next up is the Book of Thoth: This item is very helpful to give you mana and to cover you for damage for the next two items. With 3% of your mana converting into damage this is a great item that gives you 750 mana at max stacks.

3rd you got Chronos' Pendant: This gives you 25% cooldown in addition to 75 magical damage

4th is the Breastplate of Valor: This gives the rest of your cooldown to give full cooldown. This also gives you 75 physical protections.

5th item is the Bancroft's Talon: This is where your magical power takes off, with an additional 100 magical power this is the only beginning. If you are missing health That is converted to magical power as well.

Finally the last item is the Rod of Tahuti: This boost your power immensely with 125 magical damage and another 25% mag. damage in total that is 550 magical damage.

Skills

The first Skill Chain Lightning is a multihit attack. Once you hit a minion or god the move goes on to hit 4 more minions or gods and can bounce between everything as long as there are at least two minions/gods next to each other. This also leaves behind charges that you will visibly see on everything you hit.

Your next major ability is Detonate Charge. This is where your chain lightning will come in handy. Those charges left behind can be used to do massive damage if you use detonate charge. Of course, the more charges you have on an enemy god the more damage it does.

Aegis Shield is used to mitigate damage and apply charges if enemy gods hit you with basic attacks. It can also be used when you are running away for a bit of a boost since Zeus really has no of running away.

Ultimate time. Lightning Storm is your most powerful move with Zeus. He throws out an area of lightning that attacks consistently doing more damage the longer you stay in his circle.

Why do you get Detonate Charge first? Imo Chain Lightning is better.

CDR is overcapped. You can make do without protections. Mages are all about the bursty damage, so much that the enemies run away, making protections useless. 25% cdr is enough, cause Zeus uses basics mostly anyway. You definitely need more penetration though. Obsidian Shard will help.

way too much cdr

IMO Magi's Blessing is a good defense item if you're up against CC Gods. Aegis Pendant or Aegis Amulet are helpful actives depending on your opponent and if you are soloing mid having wards is important. I very much like your guide and it's good seeing new ones released.

I played Zeus yesterday on Assault (because I had no other option, barring reroll), and I still think it's really squishy as he has almost no escape options in the early game and the mage builds never include CC protection. Though, you can land a great amount of damages with the right support, but on Conquest you might be the #1 priority target for the jungler during all game, which is a deal breaker for me!

I'd use the Warlock's Sash instead of the Breastplate of Valor (you already beyond the CDR cap!) and replace the Shoes of the Magi by the Shoes of Focus to restore the 40% CDR. This will give you more sustain and more power.

Also, as Zeus don't have very good escapes, you should probably talk about the active you recommended. I would go for Heavenly Agility and Greater Purification, but I don't play Zeus often.

Thank you for the suggestions, I created a second build that I will definitely have to give a try!

Theres no need to have BoV as you over compensate on cdr and its a waste on zeus.
