you could also go 4 health potions and hand of god.
You really do not need any mana potions with this build if you manage to get your war flag procs consistantly. (i myself rarely even use the mana potion at all)
The first 4 items (including warflag) are just going to be your standard build, you get your protections, your damage, your antiheal AND your attack speed from it. I really think you should stick with the first 4 items and not deviate from them too much.
The talisman of energy represents a flexible item here. its a great choice sure, but it really depends on what you need to tank here. If there is too much crit you go spectral armor, if you need even more antiheal you go pestilence or contagion. really just think what the best is in the situation.
Gem of isolation is just the cherry on top of this build since your basic attacks count as ability you can just slow people with the your basic attacks and expose evil now slows for 40%.
if you really are just getting killed too much you can always replace it with something else.
You are 100% going to want to start off with book of Demons since it is what makes Zhong kui support work as it will let you proc your war flag twice every basic attack, if you hit both basic attacks that is. You will also be leveling this ability to max first as its damage is high and the stun is just that cherry on top that lets you hit your basics for extra war flag procs and lets your carry get some more damage in.
You will almost never be using your ultimate since you are going to need to keep your passive stacked to keep your protections. the only real time for you to use this ability is to get out of massive slows as it cleanses slows.
There really is no purpose in to leveling expose evil at all so you can save it to be upgraded last since it does not provide any extra effects but just a bit more damage.
Exorcism is the ability you will be leveling second as it provides decent damage toghether with a nice small heal for that extra sustain.
(i might have wrongly allocated some skills in here because of limits at early levels but just max the following abilities in order 3-2-1-4)
Tap each threat level to view Zhong Kui’s threats
Tap each synergy level to view Zhong Kui’s synergies
these are mostly items that can aid you in tanking or either provide extra damage or utility.
surely feel free to improvise here these not all possible replacements but mostly the ones i use.
Zhong kui's book of demons ability has a passive that casts when you fire a basic attack which deals damage for 50% of zhong's basic attack. we can use this to proc item effects that require ability damage or damage in general. In this build you will be using this with warflag to get double warflag procs.
You get a stupid amount of sustain using this build and can really just farm gold with basic attacks in the right scenario.
Since zhong has slows and stuns he is really helpful in just annoying the enemy team and letting your teammates get damage in.
ALOT of the reasoning/narration behind this build is put into the notes of the build.
Let your ADC or whatever teammate you are near always get the last hits on minions so you can get your war flag stacks.
Be careful not to over-extend in the early game as you can be quite the menace but be careful to not be too agressive. (you can still be really agressive but beware of how agressive you can be before you get massively punished)
If your ADC isnt focussing the minion wave please tell them to do so or else you are just gonna be ****ed for most of the game.
Wait untill your passive is fully stacked to really go all-in.
Your ultimate ability is mainly used for escaping fights/slows, since you do not want to use it as it decreases your protections you get from your passive.
please use at your own discretion.
I am in no way responsible for any lost ranked games or raging teammates.

i would replace Toxic Blade with a physical protection item like Breastplate of Valor 'cause you dont have many physical protections
i would also get the 1 at the first level cause it has more damage and a lower cooldown as well as being safer
I understand that you do not have alot of physical protection if you take the example full build but i never really have a problem with both of the damage types its either one or the other for me, if i am getting harrassed by physical the most i would probably get spectral armor or as you say here breastplate of valor instead of the talisman of energy. if you were to indeed replace Toxic Blade with breastplate of valor i would reccomend also build Shogun's Kusari instead of talisman of energy to make up for the lack of flat attack speed.
for taking the 1 first you also have a valid point, during the writing of this guide it was kind of tied between the 1 or the 3 first but i went for the 3 so you could get your warflag procs faster here. and besides most of the time after the first/second wave you are going to be level 2 anyway and get your other ability.
