I really like the concept of adding crit while giving him a means of cooldown assistance without dedicating items to it specifically.
I know from what I have seen and implemented with him for myself it looks like as function with executioner is a given and I have been using the [runeforged hammer] build from Z0rr0ark's Hou Yi guide and liked it pretty well but better smite minds than mine are here for me to ask to weigh in on building malice on him being viable. From what little I have tinkered I feel like if I would make that commitment I should add another crit item with attack speed like Poisoned Star
With that in mind I was looking at the other items being Ninja Tabi Asi The Executioner and Qin's Sais. If what I am looking at is actually viable my next step would be to figure out the best order for that potential build.
I am getting set to start running joust regularly and Hou Yi is the only hunter I've tried I am half way decent with(pretty terrible with the handful of others I have tried)
The only other hunter I might try is Arremis but I am not thinking Malice has gained much ground as an option for her over Deathbringer even with the reworked passive, but not a hunter centered player so my opinion is probably outrageously wrong on that. Lol.
I was planning on giving a pretty hard look at those new items, fail not included, especially since i will need to look at possible updates to my 2 guides based off of them. that would be useful for him. You could even have a rare opportunity to use his 3 in a fight and then immediately again afterwards to get away. In certain situations if you were fast enough you could mark, hit someone with the ricochet shot and then mark someone else and hit with the jump to possibly secure kills for someone else and/or yourself. It will be an interesting dynamic to figure out all the pros and cons of that and the other items.
Malice became an almost decent option and may work well is some specific hunters that may take a good use of your skills. I doubt that on Hou Yi this is a good option. I would build Malice in (sometimes) in Cupid since Heart Bomb and Flutter are always handy to have ready to cast. I can't see much use of Malice except some niche uses, though it is useful.

Thanks for your thoughts on it. It seems funny to me how it seems like when they buff or change something it really doesn't affect how people build a lot of the time. lol
Yeah, even as i was thinking it might be a crit build option I was also thinking at the same time "but that Deathbringer passive just seems so much better even with the higher cost.
At the same time, more and more i am finding that some things that are the norm in conquest don't particularly work well in arena and that also leads to finding combinations that would be viable in arena if nowhere else. So for me, it's a continuous process of finding what can work from conquest and figuring out what else can go with that and work well in arena.
Don't get me wrong, some of the build concepts for conquest depending on the god have worked fine, but more often than not I have at least minor tweaks to make.
If it's joust, start attacker's blessing and tier 1 trans, otherwise get hunter's blessing and tier 1 trans.

It's not an issue of ''really fricking wanting it" in regards to Malice, but being pretty ignorant about most things hunter just figured i would get input on if it was more viable now with the passive rework. I thought maybe knocking off cooldown time while not sacrificing whole items to cooldown on a hunter might be a good thing. Thanks for your input. I had tried transcendence a bit at first on him but i just didn't really like it for arena. Hadn't thought about going back on it for joust, but only because it hasn't been in my rotation.
If you can get kills early it's not so bad rushing it first. Though I rarely play arena, and last time I played a hunter was Ullr I think who just frags people.

Ullr..would love to play him but as i know i suck with hunters and he is more complicated i don't know that i will ever get to him. lol.
Back to trans though, yeah, and at least it isn't as hard to build up as dev's in arena(or at least it is hard as hell for me to fully stack it there). Hou Yi isn't really optimal for arena anyways since there aren't many places to bounce his projectile, but somehow i suck less with him than other hunters i have tried there.
He's simple as soon as you get used to his 1's travel time and can hit your skillshots.
Axe 1 (stun), swap stance, Auto-attack, Bow 3, Auto-attack, Bow 1, Auto-Attack. If you have a high pen/power build with hydra's you will demolish squishy gods with this combo.

I will have to come back to this if i get a higher level of comfort in using hunters in general. Ullr was the first hunter i saw that i really wanted to try. When i saw he was labeled as 'hard' to play by hirez in the god page for him i decided i would not wreck him like i did trying out fafnir when i first got on the game and knew nothing really about it.
