For those of you who don't know, I used to be pretty active in this community; Whether it was making god ideas, crafting some weird guide, or making some witty or sarcastic comment, you could find me in quite a lot of places here.
There are two main reasons why I quit the game:
1) I didn't like the direction that Hi-Rez was going. I definitely noticed that the game had started becoming more about money rather than good gameplay. It seemed like every new god was just as or more overpowered than the last.
2) The toxicity of the community. I had loved the game in beta and the first year or so after it came out officially, but the community had quickly become horrible toxic. I even watched one of my friends go from being very nice to being a horrible teammate who flamed just about everyone. It seemed like I couldn't find stress relief in the game anymore, so I stopped playing.
I have decided to make this post after two years of never even visiting these forums because I am finally thinking of coming back.
For someone who hasn't even thought of touching the games, and after reading my reasons why I quit, is the game any better than what it was 2 years ago? Has the community been toned down? How often do you encounter toxicity? Are the gods any less broken than they were before?
Also, a quick catch up on big changes would be good, it seems like starter items might have been removed after looking at some of my old guides.
EDIT: I also noticed that there was a blog post in remembrance of people who had left the site and not come back, and I'm pretty offended that I am not on that list.
******* it is has been such a long time!!! How are you??
Now get ur *** back in Smite (even tho its worsr than ever) and remaster Arachne so we can whoop some butts
Anyway, how's it going? I'm at Disneyland right now so I'll update you later on your questions. You can also check my conquest guide and items guide for overviews of changes.
Finally, we have a pretty good sf group that plays together here and there at nights (usually weekends while some have school). I forget, are you in the clan?
First, what interview??
Second, I've been doing well. I think I quit before the clan was made, so no, I am not in it.
I DID mention you, ha!
Also search SfBc (SmiteFire Bulletin Chat) clan. Request and we'll accept you into the group =)
Less toxic? Depends...there's always toxicity here and there, and I play with friends mostly so I come across it less than others, perhaps. Definite toxicity in Ranked from what I've experienced in my limited games there.
But if I were to go out on a limb, I'd say less toxicity overall than before.
As for broken gods...eh, I feel balance is better than it was in many cases. Release gods still often have major issues, and there are definitely gods that are weaker than others, but feel things are pretty decent, depending on mode. There are a LOT of new gods since you've been gone, and I don't remember the god preferences you had.
Starter items have definitely been removed...at least the traditional ones you were used to seeing.
Now, they're called "blessings," and there are 5 "conquest" blessings that are meant to fit roles rather than god types, so they're universal (not magical or physical). They can be picked up in any mode, but you can only buy 1 per game, rather than stupid combinations of different starters. I personally really like the general concept.
There are also 3 non-Conquest blessings, but the only one of those I think is worthwhile is Specialist's Blessing.
Other key changes:
When I quit I was working on Fenrir and Khepri to mastery X, though I mainly played Arachne. I did play as any role though, as I would've considered myself as great at all roles, and somewhat good at adc.
Prism says it's way worse, but that's just cuz his computer sucks (and he hasn't been playing it much, think he's played 10-15 matches in the last 6 months!).
