Datsue-ba and Keneō
Datsueba and Keneō are a terrifying pair of elderly oni. They guard the bridge and the banks of the Sanzu River. All souls must pass by them before moving on to Meido to be judged. Datsue-ba and Keneō
Datsue-ba is an old woman who sits at the edge of the Sanzu River in the underworld. At the river, she has two primary responsibilities.
When a child dies its soul has to cross the Sanzu River. Traditionally, when a person dies, it is believed that they can cross the river at three different spots depending on how they lived their lives.
At the river's edge, the souls of deceased children are met by Datsue-ba. There, she strips the children of their clothes and advises them to build a pile of stones on which they can climb to reach paradise. But, before the pile reaches any significant height, Datsue and underworld demons maliciously knock it down.
When a soul is that of an adult, Datsue-ba forces the sinners to take off their clothes, and the old-man Keneō hangs these clothes on a riverside branch that bends to reflect the gravity of the sins. If the sinner arrives with no clothes, Datsue-ba strips them of their skin.
Various levels of punishment are performed at this stage. For those who steal, for example, Datsueba breaks their fingers, and together with Keneō, she ties the head of the sinner to the sinner's feet to torture them.
Datsue-ba is not a very kind old hag. She is more of a malicious and evil character who loves stripping off clothes or skins from the helpless souls or entertaining herself by tricking the children to build up a pile of pebbles so she can knock it down and watches them suffer afterward.
However, sometime Datsue-ba is worshipped as a goddess who provides the newborns their clothes or skins that she will tears them off after death.
No matter how great or powerful you are when you are alive, your sins might cause your skins to be stripped off by a terrible old hag as soon as you arrive.

WHO ARE DATSUE-BA AND KENEŌ ?
Datsue-Ba (奪衣婆*) is a Japanese demoness who looks like a hag. She robs the clothes of the dead before they cross the Sanzu River to Yomi, the netherworld. The sin of the dead souls are determined by the weight of their clothes, much like the role of Anubis in Egyptian myth.
Keneō (懸衣翁) is a Japanese Oni who sits at the edge of the Sanzu River in the Buddhist underworld. His name translates to clothes hanging old man. In Japanese tradition when someone dies 6 mon, an old form of currency, are placed with the body to be used as payment to enter the underworld. When a soul of an adult arrives at the river they are supposed to cross it. If they were good in their lifetime they are allowed to cross the bridge. If they were partially good they have to wade through the shallow section of the river. If they were bad during their life they are forced to swim across the deepest part of the river. Once the adult soul arrives at the river Datsue-ba forces the sinners to take off their clothes, and Keneō hangs these clothes on a riverside branch that bends to reflect the gravity of the sins. If a soul arrives without clothes, Keneō flays the person’s skin and hangs it from the tree instead.

MY VISION AND SOURCES
When I first saw this content, I got really excited because I love creating concepts. Plus it's for my favorite game Smite! I joined the Halloween contest last year and became a runner-up. You can check my content here --> https://www.smitefire.com/smite/concept/chupacabra-286. Thank you for giving us this opportunity to challenge our creativity.
This year I decided to make something that really fits the concept and searched quite a bit. I found about Datsueba and KENEŌ. They were really terrifying to me. In Japanese folklore, it is believed that when someone dies it has to cross the Sanzu River. Datsueba and KENEŌ wait for those people on the riverside and force them to take their clothes off . These clothes reflect the weight of their sins. If they arrive with no clothes Datsueba rips their skin off and KENEŌ hangs those skins or clothes to a tree as a punishment. When it's a child soul trying to cross river since they are children they cannot swim. Therefore, Datsueba advises them to make a pile of stone so they can reach heaven. However Datsueba and KENEŌ are so evil that they purposely knock it down just to have fun. This made me choose them for my concept. In Japanese lore, they appear and work together I wanted to be them together in the game too as a shapeshifter.
