I am somewhat new to playing the ADC Role in conquest, but I've always wondered why you build crit items last instead of making it your 3rd or 4th item. I assumed it's because in early to mid game everyone doesn't have that much health and that it's not needed, But I'm not sure if that's the reason or if there is any more reasons.

It's cuz your crits are based from your damage.

See, if your autos do 203 damage, and you have a physical power of (idk) 300, you'll crit from 400-700 damage ( For some reason ).

If you play with Artemis, you can notice this. You can crit early game out of the blue for 73-103 damage, while only doing 40 damage with your basic attacks.

I'm not a expert on this matter, you might want to PM FemFatalis, since her main is the ADC class

well as prism says also do you want to be more surviable and you do that by building boots and lifesteal. and because the adc build has an stacking item in it you normally build those sometimes before boots.

after that tanks get annoying to take down and you really want some pen and your basics are also slow so you will normally pick up The Executioner. well then you are on 4 items already and then crit becomes more important as well normally the first 3 items are stacking and survivability. the last 3 are for dps. and the early pen gives you a better dps then going crit's first (it's the same as building Rage before Deathbringer ( Artemis is an exeption) as Rage first gives a slightly better DPS then Deathbringer first)

now you can say that's not true crit gives more dps that's true but well without the attack speed it's worse (and that's why you see an Heartseeker> Warrior Tabi> Asi> The Executioner> Rage> Deathbringer

Ok, so, as Prism said, I main ADC. The first item any hunter wants to get is usually (apart from Krett's jank Banshee build) a stacking item, whether it's Heartseeker or Devourer's Gauntlet. This will give your last hits more purpose, scale you well into the mid game, and either increase your offense or defense depending on which item you choose. The next two items will always be either Warrior Tabi and power, if you choose the lifesteal stacker of Devourer's Gauntlet, or Warrior Tabi and lifesteal if you start the pure power of Heartseeker. Boots are obviously important, because movement speed is important, and Warrior Tabi increase your power. Every hunter needs lifesteal and pure power, so those two item slots are also taken. They are also more effective in the mid game. Next, The Executioner is practically broken right now. Penetration, attack speed, and flat power all on one item? Must-have. See, that's four slots right there, all of which are in a very important order. Crit fills in the last two slots because they scale on damage and your damage will be low until The Executioner is online. I also like selling an item (either Asi or Ichaival depending on build) for Malice last, completing the crit trifecta.

(also, Devampi is right, Rage first is slightly more effective DPS than Deathbringer if you hit consistent autos)

To be honest, the ADC build is the least changeable of the meta right now. Either you build Heartseeker or Devourer's Gauntlet. Building anything else or any other items will put you behind and, since you need to carry, your role will go unfulfilled. Knowing these builds by heart (and, of course, the amount of gold needed for each item, since you will be farming a lot) will help. Also, hit your autos. Please.
