I totally love Hi-Rez. Honestly, they're one of the most customer friendly, community-open gaming companies I have ever worked with.

I mean, let's take this new geb nerf. An ignorant group of people would be stuck up and say "Just learn to play against him: We aren't nerfing a god this fast because it takes a long time."

Instead, they instantly put a pretty harsh nerf on him (Maybe not the health scaling, but the base health of Stone Shield was reduced by 100%).)

Not just with the latest patch though. Think about how much Hi-Rez does: They do all these release videos, the tour videos (minion has spawned), they stream their own game to Twitch, 90% of the time a human actually talks to me when I send a ticket.

Don't be so harsh guys.
Thanks to Ferrum for making the sig pic! He's beast af people.

I'm two-sided. But to get to the point really quickly: Hi-rez is too small. This goes in terms of policies and in terms of size.

They do have a nice interaction with the community - they do listen - they do try their damn hardest to compete with the current MOBA leaders - LoL and Dota 2. And they realise that customer is king. They are generally nice people and, trough trial and error, try their damnedest.

But
They lack transparancy on policy and legal matters. They have a lacking individual customer support. (size issue). They are bad at dealing with unhappy players or hard criticism that doesn't apply to the game mechanics per se (eg: criticism on people). They also have a childish attention span: they get really hyped on what's new and quickly forget what's old.

The buts are all excusable because of their small size and immense growth. And it's not strange for them to go full throttle for the best selling game rather than carry the burden that is Tribes : Ascend. (I'm not a fan of the game - but boy the fans are pissed off at Hi-rez). Especially since they are so small. But their methods leave a nasty taste.

Also - but you all know my opinion on that by now - their anti-cheating approach is complete bullocks. But there's no more need to talk about that.
That's just my 2 cents.

Oy! Give me some privacy.

Never noticed it but now that you mentioned it. HiRez is a community listener. They way they make the updates does show to some extent that they DO listen. Not like some other companies.

They just need more practice and they'll be up there with the big guys.

Listening to the community is not always a good thing. For every registered member on Reddit there are other 100 players that are not registered but are playing the game daily. So changing something just because some guys on Reddit ask for it instead of devs experiencing on gods themselves may make some people happy but it's wrong.

My point is: There will always be that one guy that screams "X is OP! Nerf it Hi-rez!". Get the game on the road the community wants to and it will kill the game. I'm not saying "Don't listen to anybody!" but don't nerf Loki just because some random guy who got owned by a Loki wants him nerfed.

Anyway, I like Hi-rez, the last F2P I played was owned by EA, and coming from that expensive, pay2winwith no interest put in it at all and inexistent devs to Smite was like hell-> heaven. But this listening to the community will be Smite's downfall.

Just want to say, the shield base health is 50%, not 100%. If it was 100% there'd be no base number ;)

But I 100% completely agree with you. HiRez is my favorite gaming company. People here know I play LoL, but not many know my main MMO outlet is World of Warcraft. I've dumped 9 and a half years into that game with every class at max level.

And I hate it.

Blizzard hosts Blizzcon, which is pretty much the only community interaction it takes seriously. The balancing is horrid, the pvp system has been ignored, and the raids are getting to the point where it feels like a waste of months of gear accumulation. Every expansion yields more feelings of "ugh I'm losing everything" compared to "ooh new content!". Blizzard is one of the worst community companies I've ever seen.

Riot does better, but they still seem like a faceless corporation who DOES have our best intention in mind, they just refuse to incorporate themselves.

HiRez is the most community oriented gaming company I've ever seen in an MMO environment. They contend with Valve, in my opinion, for best community company. HiRezBart and HiRezKelly are ridiculously involved in the community, the website for Smite itself hosts both a pro player stream (they actually have gotten people who play on competitive, professional teams to agree to stream on the website in allotted times. They are SO intertwined with the gaming community), and a secondary, more informal smite stream alongside it. LoL lets you spectate games, but do they themselves host streaming hours?

They take everything we say into careful consideration, and despite it being in beta where it's expected, they CONSTANTLY and RELIABLY rehash old gods with new looks (Poseidon, He Bo, etc) and reworks (Sun Wukong, Kali, Hel, Vulcan x 3, must I go on?)

They may be infantile, but once they break out of beta and they get a community that continues rising as quickly as LoL (Check the growth rates for player number - it's ridiculous!), they'll be able to afford and have the dedication to allot more time and money into getting more people in their company. ATM, they're too small, but that's definitely not something that can't be fixed. They're friendly, they're cooperative, and they're, all in all, a great company.

(P.S. Sorry for the rant!)

I still don't understand your anger towards the league games; it's kind of how it works in any MOBA.

Anyway, League of Legends, DotA 2, Heroes of Newerth are all MOBAs you can play. Combat Arms is a game by nexon - it's got a small cheater/hacker problem, but in general it's a very nice FPS game. Soon, Hearthstone will be released, or if you can snatch a beta key that's an awesome game. If you're not only looking for F2P games, World of Warcraft will provide a very long time of enjoyment, but it's subscription. Diablo 3 is a nice one-time-fee game that acts as a dungeon crawler. Aion and Rift are both free to play MMORPG's, with Aion having a unique air-combat style gameplay with wings, and providing 6 classes, each with evolutions at level 10. It's downside is it's slow. Rift has the most customization of any game I've ever seen - 4 different classes (warrior, rogue, mage, cleric) with 8 specializations in each, choosing 3 at a time. (I.E. a chloromancer warlock pyromage, or an archon necromancer duo). Finally, Path of Exile is a nice F2P diablo style game, where you gain skills and spells through gems you put in armor, not through your class.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, hope that helps.

I meant it was reduced by 100%, but I guess that would be incorrect too.

I play WoW too, and trust me, their community interaction is horrible. The 1 time out of 10 they listen to the community, PvP basically get's destroyed (Again).

I guess that's what I enjoy about Hi-Rez. They have flaws, but at least they're friendly and cooperative (As you said), unlike a lot of other gaming companies I work with.

Well, Riot may be a little faceless, but that doesn't mean they don't care. They often give free stuff for no reason, especially during the holidays. And they listen to the community, Master Yi is proof of that. Their Tribunal and Matchmaking systems are just amazing, as well. (Not to mention their patch notes kick HiRez' ***.)

I disagree with HiRez and the community mostly because they completely removed every single bit of data in and about and on the old forums, while replacing it with Reddit. Unlike Riot, they do have a face, but I honestly can't say they're community oriented, especially with everyone agreeing about certain things, like Chang'e ult needing literally anything as a cap to the stun duration, but nothing being done about it. Let's also not forget their rather controversial cheat policy. Oh, and they also have a history of abandoning failed ventures.

I also disagree with the Reworks; Vulcan was out and bashed for about an year before any reworks...and I'm not sure why most of them are reworked, either. I'd rather have a balance change than a visual change, you know?

Edit: Maybe I wasn't here long enough, but this is simply from what I've seen from my history with HiRez.

HiRez definitely is more community-oriented. Like some have said, they even host streams on their mainpage, and as some might not know, they actually have a streaming room in their office where they do a lot of special streams.

On the other hand, I've seen this kind of company fail pretty hard by appealing to the wrong crowd and ruining their game. Hopefully HiRez doesn't go the way of listening to the "ADD crowd", people who will come in and play the game for a few levels, then quit completely. It results in needless nerfing or buffing of certain things, for instance.

They need to listen to their veteran players and maybe even play the game themselves to figure things out and balance. Then they'll win extra points.
