For a good while now I have been seeing a lot of people building heartseeker and doom orb as core items on most gods they play in all situations. Which personally I cant help but feel is wrong, I believe both items are very situational and should only be built only when you get ahead early or if you genuinely want to just have fun with a build.

For example an anubis or a fenrir and loki getting a couple of kills in the 5 to 10 min mark to make you snowball uncontrolably.

Don't get me wrong I do believe they are great items but I cant help but see them only as early boost items that fall off late game as you're risk of death and losing stacks becomes much higher.

At that point id sell them but most people don't and try to replenish stacks when they should be grouped up with the team or taking objectives.

So can anyone give me reasons or examples that I may not have thought of as to why you have them as core items?

I rarely use them but in tyr jungle it is alot of fun you can hit up to around 500 before level 20 but it is generrally only a early game boost where it might be good late game if you dont die and had a good farm,
someone made calculations with a fully stacked heartseeker and titans bane, if the enemy had around 60 protections (i believe) titan did more damage than heartseeker

When thy added just losing half of the stacks pr death it got really worth it to build those items. Just because 25 stacks is like 3 waves and 2 jungle camps.

But if you die like twice in a row (without getting time to farm up stacks) and you are getting focused in the late game, sell it.

HS is a lot better than DO as well, just because of the movement speed on HS. So I still think DO is a bit risky for what you get, but I do not play mid either so do not take my word on it :P

I just build it because I like the speed boost... Especially on Loki. Gives edge when you don't have sprint ready.

But really. HS is only good for people who can secure kills and escape combat. And DO is good if you just plan on attacking as a team and not always trying to gank alone.

The reason they're almost always grabbed, is it's very very hard to get a kill very early game, and it's easy in mid and jungle to stack minions quickly.

Jungle is a very safe place to farm. And in mid, every mage is a good farmer, for the most part.

Finally, they're dirt cheap. They're seriously SO cheap.

So it should be sold if you do badly, but it's a very decent early pickup.

I use Doom Orb just because of that sexy 7 MP5 and 200 mana which is a HUGE help to most mana hungry mages early game. Its risky I know, but even if I'm doing terrible I can just sell it and buy something else.

Also the item is ridicules on Ao Kuang: Instant gib squishy while never running out of mana, What's that? He died? Give him a few minutes and he will get full stacks again.

I found Heartseeker useless when building damage gods 99% of the times. Except from Loki and maybe Hun Batz, with every other Assassin/ADC i'll go with devourer's gloves. I mean, 200 difference, but what's 8% movement speed compared to 25% lifesteal. Plus, you never lose the stacks. And the 15 physical power difference is so mild...

People buy these items to get ahead in the game in the first place. They are cheap, pack a power punch and good to level up fast with early kills. In case you get early kills without them then there is no need to buy, go for more expensive items. Have seen a lot of expert loki and xbalanque players using heart seeker to great effect.
