Wow the way I phrased it sounds quite...moronic, to be frank. I meant you can go below the base protections the god has, whether they have built protections or not.

Anyway, still stand by my position vehemently, especially with the new Hastened Fatalis providing HUGE incentive to auto attack often, and the attack speed on Executioner being absolutely amazing for carries.

Spear, with only 2 stacks required and all the spells I listed, is far superior in my opinion, unless you're basically planning to go in, Release the Kraken, and leave, and do literally nothing more.

I knew Loki threads were super common, but pen threads? New to me.

That said, these two are indeed better than most give them credit for. I see them in tournies all the time, and I know several of the better players include them as core/semi-core items in their builds.
Its not that pen threads are common, its just that enough was covered in that one spam pen thread that all questions are almost pretty much answered.

Its like writing a 1300 page essay on how to clean your car then you ask HOW DO YOU CLEAN YOUR CAR? Well if you read the essay you already have answers.

Basically what I am saying, is everything I seen from my quick browsing has already been answered so why are people re-talking about the same thing they just talked about with alot of pages?

But you can prove me wrong, tell me anything that is new info here that hasn't been covered in that novel of a thread about pen.

I was just joking and I know someone is going to go ham on me for my wpm on this post.

But I was just wondering what is the point of restating everything that we ALL have already talked about. I see people talking about execution and titans bane again the first thing I thought was "oh god here we go again explaining things that already have been explained"

I just thought it was a waste of everyone time :D

UNLESS your adding new ideas but so far I just see the same things.... I only browsed through it because I don't want another novel of 8 pages of pen and how it works and which comes first when applying pen when all of us on the forum went ham about it already.

DON'T GET ME WRONG

I loved how the thread started, it started as two items being underrated meaning not picked alot. Now you see that thread should be talking about how people need to pick it more....

But instead it has opened up the door for a RERUN of a novel about how pen works and thats how I see this going for the 800th page.

Basically it went from = these items are undderrated lets talk about it being underrated
To = lets talk about every pen item, how pen works, when do effects apply, ect.

I hope I didn't come off as a **** or anything, I was just saving people time saying we already went over this no need to get us all to write 40 post all over again.

Spear and Executioner are for more skilled people who are reliable with landing things.

I have seen a few Apollos get Titan's Bane to counter Void Blade, and Apollos get Void Blade against other physical assassins. And I have no idea why both examples were both Apollo.

I disagree about the amount of protections gods get - Breastplate of Valor is VERY popular on many mages AND tanks AND bruisers, but there doesn't seem to be a magical version of it yet.

Other than those two points, I can't really argue against most of what you're saying, except for one thing:

Spear of the Magus does NOT rely on good aim. Yeah, maybe a few gods need to hit well, but most Spear users, like Poseidon or Anubis, don't need skill to land their attacks.

we sorta do now, with the Idol of Concentration(why do we only have rank 1 listed?), though it's not a full 25% reduction.

I kinda thought of something:

To get the full benefit of the Executioner, you must hit the enemy with four successive basic attacks, the first three to lower defenses, then the last to actually enjoy the benefits.

With the Titan's Bane, all four of those attacks are equal in strength from the start.

Test: Apollo + Titan's Bane and W. Tabi (2) vs W. Tabi and Executioner (1). Versus a level 10/20 Ra with no items.

1: 101/101, 108/108, 115/115, 121/124. Total of 445/448 damage. (566/572 for five)

2: 112/117, 112/117, 112/117, 112/117. Total of 448/468 damage. (560/585 for five)

Results: With only four autoattacks, Titan's Bane would deal more overall damage. With five autoattacks, you would have a slight advantage to the Executioner earlier, but later levels would still have an advantage toward the TB.

Obviously, Executioner gives attack speed, but for certain gods with slow but powerful autoattacks, like Anhur, or in some situations, TB would be better.

And as a somewhat experienced SMITE player, I can say that there are many common situations where you either utilize your abilities before you attack, or when you don't have enough time to fire 5+ basics on the same target.

Let's say you gank mid as Apollo. You initiate with your ult, Mesmerize the enemy to adjust your position, then hit with your basic attacks. Then the enemy either dies or tries to escape, at that point where you dash to them and finish them off, probably with your one.

The question is, does the damage added by using Titan's Bane with your ultimate and your first five basic attacks outmatch the added damage you would have with the Executioner + your next basic attacks and So Beautiful?

Another situation: You are being ganked by Hun Batz, and your escape is on cooldown. Will the Executioner help you if you have time to fire only six basic attacks? Would you have a better chance of surviving if you could use your abilities to their maximum potential from the start?

My point being, while the Executioner may be better if you autoattack very often, it also restricts your options. You might be better off if you can use your abilities at the start, especially if their range is longer than your basic attacks. Even for ranged carries, whose playstyle revolves around autoattacks, may enjoy some benefit from the flexibility and increased power of their abilities.
