So i was in reddit amd saw a posti think from krett or something else who said Anubis is a top priority pick in China. I know Anubis is not trash, but imo he is jungler fod most of the time and all he does is damage really. Unnecessary amounts of damage may I add. So am I missing something? Cause NA meta has long forgotten Anubis as a priority pick.

Basically, a lot of what we consider good and bad gods is based around the notion that most people, even the pros, have not mastered positioning in smite yet. Several people have acknowledged this, and have decided to prioritize decision making and mechanics over positioning, because it's so hard in a game like this to be exactly where you need to be in order to use your skills, but give 0 chance for them to get on top of you.

For example, as Anubis, how do you get in range to use your spells without being in range of Serqet? Very very hard to do.

Thus, as people begin to master (especially in asian countries because let's be honest, very few world-wide strategy games aren't dominated by them. They have LoL, Starcraft, Dota, and more) this positioning idea, gods who have no escapes but high usefulness otherwise become better. If you cannot get to and IMMEDIATELY destroy Anubis, he will absolutely demolish your team.

Additionally, I've not seen the thread, but he's very strong in soloqueue because people don't know how to group well, and against an anubis, you basically need to get both beads AND aegis to get rid of the wrap and then live through the ult, and even past that he'll probably kill you. (I assume you get hit by the coccoon, because on equal skill terms, the projectile speed of it should ensure more lands with it than misses. It's very hard to juke, if even possible against a skilled opponent, unless at THEE max range)

So in summary, people are mastering positioning letting mid laners without an escape do well, and he's a good soloqueue monster because he'll destroy people when the enemies don't group.

Dunno, tho.

Koreans are the Asian no. 1 for LoL and Starcraft (and osu!mania), but the Chinese still takes DotA and Smite.

This makes a lot of sense but still, there are many gods who offer so much more for the team than Anubis like Scylla imo or Isis.

@kinglion
they may bring more but more is not always what you need, you need effective use of the character you are using, anubis fits into the chinese meta for more then just positioning, he is thé ultimate long range assassin that can always remove atleast one person from the fight of his choice. on the other hand he is one of the ultimate mid lane dualists as well, only rivaled by he bo who takes a very different sort of skill but doesnt fit into the chinese meta because of him being a practicly melee range mage meaning that during team fights he can get ruined and often can't get one full cycle of in his play. (also the reason hebo can only exist in a meta that is focused on shot calling rather then correct positioning because he will just not be able to get to the back line where the squish nuggets are.)

scylla is clumsy as her ult has a too long charge time and isn't always a garenteed kill with her full damage combo. isis doesn't bring enough damage to the table to be viable in that meta.

anubis is just the best when it comes to long range assassin mages, because he is the only one who can reliably burst that one person he needs to down and because of the postioning he is good at that as people are just not able to get to him fast enough, the tanks cant cc him before its too late, the enemy mage burst just doesn't quiet cut it or they dont have the range anubis does or the adc can't get close enough to save who ever he picked for a day in murder park fun park.

loki is practicly the only one who can counter im and only if he is fast enough on getting the stun on his ult off and pray that anubis in the team fights doesn't have beads or aegis or that the cc that can ruin loki isn't close enough to him or on cooldown.

if anubis does get that one guy he needed to then he can still do a few things before going down if at all, that ult might have hit more people then just the one he needed to get, he still has AoE and his 1's damage isn't half bad.
never forget dawngate and never forgive EA. Freia will hunt them for eternity.
