Well, it depends on the universe. Heck, some even let you change genders (DnD) as an actual mechanic. But for 99% of the fictional video game universes out there, I'd say no. Imagine being sucked into The Ring game or Dark Souls.

What god from Smite would you choose to live with for mutual benefit? For example, having Agni as a roommate means you don't have to go to a pizza parlor for authentic wood-fired pizzas. Cupid could set you up with someone, while Athena could tutor you in some subjects. Or Aphro could...

Aegis Pendant. Because random invincibility will be insanely useful.

If you could make whoever you wished immortal/forever young/immune to disease, etc, including yourself, would you do it?

SmiteFire & Smite

Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions. Smite is inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA) but instead of being above the action, the third-person camera brings you right into the combat. And, instead of clicking a map, you use WASD to move, dodge, and fight your way through the detailed graphics of SMITE's battlegrounds.
