Introduction

This guide is made by the mentor team from the SMITE Official Discord. Anyone can join and receive help from the mentors, participate in inhouses, look for people to play with, or just talk about the game with other people who enjoy SMITE.

Achilles is a strong solo laner whose execute gives him unmatched kill potential in lane and a strong 1v1 against all gods even at the later stages of the game. His passive Gift of the Gods allows him to build multiple bruiser items and still be tankier than most solos.

Strengths & Weaknesses

Strengths

Wins most trades
Built-in sustain
Almost always has kill potential in lane
Good buff secure
Doesn't fall off late game

Weaknesses

Bad wave clear early game
Susceptible to early ganks

Which Build Is Right For You?

Bluestone
Bluestone Pendant is a strong early game starter item that boosts Achilles' clear and lets him hit even harder when he's trading with the enemy. The sustain it gives through hp5 and mp5 allows you to play more aggressively and feel comfortable in lane no matter the matchup. This build is the one you'll go if you want double relics for team fights or if you need the extra help in lane.

Tainted
Tainted Steel is a starter item with power as well as protections. This allows you to out trade almost everyone for the first few levels unless they also went Tainted. This starter doesn't help Achilles' poor clear much though. The 20% anti heal never falls off and the 50% from Tainted Breastplate is more than enough to make sure any healer poses no challenge. You'll go this build whenever you're against a strong healer. This path is for when you want to have anti-heal in your build.

Bumba's Hammer
Bumba's Hammer is the strongest item in the game at the moment. It works well on Achilles because he can get four procs of it without ulting, and he always weaves in auto attacks between each ability anyway. Teleport Glyph allows you to rush boots and will carry you through the lane. Once you get Bumba's Hammer online at level 20, not much can actually kill you. You'll go this build whenever you don't need double relics or anti heal, and whenever you'd feel fine in lane without Bluestone Pendant.

Relics

teleport glyph

On Achilles you should get Blink Rune 100% of the time. Blink Rune helps you dive the backline easier and synergizes well with Combat Dodge and Shield of Achilles. Purification Beads is a necessary relic on Achilles because he wants to hold Fatal Strike for executing people and Combat Dodge is almost always used aggressively because it's where the bulk of his damage comes from. Sundering Spear is a the best second relic option if you're playing into teams with little hard crowd control where Purification Beads would be unnecessary. Teleport Glyph will be your first relic in the Bumba's Hammer build because you're rushing boots, don't get it otherwise.

Early Game

If you build either Bluestone Pendant or Tainted Steel, go to speed buff at the start of the game. Clear it as fast as possible and then head to mini harpy camp. Your jungler will be on the bigger harpy camp and will pull them towards you so that you split the farm. Don't use Shield of Achilles on the minis, hold it for clearing blue buff. After both camps are down, head to blue. If you go the Bumba's Hammer Build, you will start on your blue buff alone. Use Hand of the Gods on it. Clear blue then go to lane.

Once you get to lane you should use your abilities primarily on the wave but make sure to hit your lane opponent through the minions. You will get out cleared by most gods before you get boots if you go Tainted Steel so play defensively but try to keep the enemy poked because you need to stay strong enough to defend your blue buff from a possible invade. If you went Bluestone Pendant your early levels will be much easier. You'll clear as well as most other gods and be able to play more aggressively because you have sustain on your starter item. The goal is to get full boots on your first back. If you don't get a kill in lane, you'll have enough gold once you clear the wave that comes after you get your second blue buff. If you're using the Bumba's Hammer build, clear waves as fast as possible and immediately recall to base to buy Warrior Tabi once you get 700 gold. Then use Teleport Glyph to immediately return to lane.

Once you get Warrior Tabi, you have a lot of kill potential in lane. If you use Shield of Achilles and Combat Dodge while autoing between, you'll do about 50-60% of the enemy solo laner's health depending on their starter item. If they buy Reinforced Greaves you'll do closer to 40%. You want to get the enemy to 33% health to execute them and two rounds of your abilities plus autos between them will almost always get them there. Achilles has pressure into most gods at this point because one they're poked, they can't play aggressively anymore.

Team Fights

As the solo laner and frontline during team fights, you want to be initiating for your jungler and pressuring their backline so they're not free casting onto your team. As Achilles you want to be using Blink Rune to get in quickly, and then either immediately use Shield of Achilles to set up a kill or use Combat Dodge first as you usually would when going on someone. The goal is to either isolate someone and kill them in a 1v1 (which Achilles almost always wins), play around your carries or jungler to look for executes and help them stay alive, or continue to press forward making space for your team and zoning out multiple enemies without hard committing to them. Radiant Glory is an important ability to use before or as you're going in because the protection increase and CCR will make you much harder to lock down or blow up. It can be a signal that you're about to Blink Rune in though so it's sometimes fine to Blink then use Radiant Glory right away.

Tips and Tricks

Use both the dash and the damage of Combat Dodge as an auto-attack cancel. You can do this by autoing, dashing to cancel the end of the auto-attack animation, canceling the ability, auto-attacking again, and then using the damage half of the ability to cancel the end of the auto-attack animation.

If an enemy god is taking damage from multiple sources and getting low, you can use Fatal Strike when they're about half health or so. By the time the execute hits them, they'll be under the 33% threshold and immediately die.

You can use the dash part of Combat Dodge before you use Blink Rune so that the damaging part of the ability can be immediately thrown out.

You can also use the dash to get in range for Shield of Achilles or Fatal Strike and hold the damage from Combat Dodge if either of the aforementioned abilities can get the kill because both do more damage than a single use of the spear thrust.

You can use Radiant Glory if you're about to be CC'd and know you can't prevent it. The increased protections and CCR will help you take a lot less damage from the follow-up if there is any.

Fatal Strike isn't just for executes. If you know you can finish someone off or just 100-0 them, don't be afraid to use your ultimate right away. It does a lot of damage and can be useful when you need to close the distance in a chase.

Conclusion

Achilles in a lethal warrior who can easily punish people for their mistakes and capitalize on any breathing room he's given early on. If you like taking 1v1s and soloing people, this is the god for you.

"Dodge and punish your opponents before finding the right time to end them."

Hi, thanks for the guide. I don’t know English well, I’m from Russia. In what situations can I change my passive ability? Or is it protective for all assemblies?

You can change your passive ability in the fountain. As for when it's suggested when to use which, you would use the stance without armour at level 1 / early game, and later into the match once you have a few items (e.g. Warrior Tabi, Shifter's Shield, Ancile) you can switch to armour stance and keep it on for the rest of the game.

You use the 'damage' stance at level 1 and transition to the protective stance if you buy more damage items or if later on you feel you are taking too much damage.

You generally want to start out with the armor stance during the lanning phase and switch over to the aggressive stance once you've gotten your defenses online and team-fights start happening regularly. Does that make sense?

Wrong way around.

I've also found that heartseeker and corrupted bluestone are also a good item to use for this build

Redstone is fun, I made a build for Arthur with it that I need to test more.

This is the best Achilles guide I've seen. Thanks!

Is there anything to adjust for Clash/Siege?

I've always built full CDR so far (breastplate of valour + glad shield + mantle of discord or genji's) but I've noticed a big impact using Shifter's as 1st item after boots, I guess I'll stick to this for the time being. Do you think there's anything tradable to get in more CDR?

Thanks for making this guide. Just curious, why do you build dom over heartseeker for achilles?
2
Kriega1 (143) | February 3, 2021 1:26pm
Cheaper and helps for the damage on his AA cancels. Heartseeker passive gets countered by Sov / Thebes / Sentinel's aura, also heartseeker isn't as strong as it used to be early last season. It's maybe more of a jungle item on him now.
