The Tide is Rising

The Master of the Seas is one of a handful of mages I have a blast playing. He can be challenging to play at times without adequate support and especially if built poorly. This guide will be my second foray into the realm of mages in SMITE. Hopefully any of you stumbling upon this guide will give it a shot and have the success I have had with this build concept.

Fury of the Storm

Starting Items

Sands of Time Starting the build off with the first portion of your cdr and once transitioned into Pendulum of Ages will provide the last portion of your cdr. This also gives a nice bump to power to go with your boots to go along with the mp5 for extra sustain in fights early when you run out of mana fast.

Shoes of Focus These boots are nice because they give you the second portion of your cdr, some mana to help even more with early sustain in fights to use your abilities more often.

Transitioning to Full Build

Spear of Desolation This gives you some flat pen early, which is beneficial before protections get built up on the other team. The passive and the 3rd portion of your cdr provided from this item are really beneficial to Poseiden using his abilities as much as possible while transitioning into the middle of the match. The power it provides is pretty nice as well.

Rod of Tahuti This item is in a good spot for this build. It provides a hefty dose of power, gives more mp5 for sustain in late game fights and the passive is very useful in bringing enemies the rest of the way down when under 50% health. The 10% pen that it provides build on the flat pen provided by Spear of Desolation.

Charon's Coin I have tried different items in this spot and so far this season in this concept I have had the most success with this item. Even though the hp5 is not really that helpful on Poseiden, it can possibly help you take an additional basic or two while escaping. The extra movement speed can be especially helpful in escaping or pursuing. The 20% pen provided is also very valuable because it can help you get through more protections and do more damage. The power provided might not seem like enough, but the total stats and passive more than make up for that.

Pendulum of Ages This is the item you buy when finishing your starter. It provides good power, more mp5 to feed into your sustain in fights and the situational passive to provide either more mp5 or more power based on how low or high your mana is make it fit into the build very well due to it's flexibility in what it provides you and when. Depending on how the match is going and how your gold has been flowing towards the end of the match, you can opt to buy this prior to getting Soul Reaveror after.

Soul Reaver This item is really helpful for the additional damage it provides from the passive, the power keeps the build along a nice progression heading towards the end of the match. The additional Mana it provides combined with the mana received from Shoes of Focus allow for a bit of a boost to your magical power situationally after Sands of Time is completed.

My Build for Counter Heal
In this build, if you have high health targets you can opt to build Soul Reaver in place of Rod of Tahuti

Poseiden's Barrage

I like to finish Whirlpool first due to the slow, the steady progression from the damage, and it being an area of affect ability that can easily hit multiple targets.

I like to finish Trident second, though I do pick up a second level of it before finishing off the last level of Whirlpool for just a bit more of a movement speed bonus just prior to transitioning to the middle of matches.

Tidal Surge Even though I level this last, it all comes down to whether value more movement speed or more damage. You could swap the progression for this ability with Trident if you like. How you prioritize both of these abilities could easily change from match to match depending on your opponents.

Release The Kraken! Poseiden's ultimate follows a pretty steady progression for its damage and extra effects, so level it as soon as possible every time you can. This ult also synergizes well with the ults of many other gods. A handful of examples to pair him with would be Hades, Ares, Hou Yi, Cerebus, Terra, and Vulcan. Again, that is by no means a complete list, but gives you an idea of the types of ults that release the kraken will pair well with.

The Storm Subsides

Thanks for checking out this guide. I may add more to it later, but I feel pretty comfortable with how it is laid out at this time. I hope you liked it and will give it a try.

Do you get to the point of actually upgrading your starter in Arena long enough for it to be worthwhile?

Go Tahuti before Reaver (i.e swap them around). Also consider adding Shell as an alternative to Aegis.

I am guessing due to the pen now on tahuti? I remember when in discussions on my vulcan build we talked about that being too early. how times change.

That and it works well with his ult.
