Introduction

Hi! I'm WolfWitch and this is my guide for Persephone, the newest goddess in SMITE! Persephone is a Control Mage that specializes in dealing massive amounts of damage and zoning the enemy team in the best of situations. Harvest and Grasp of Death are both unique and powerful abilities that ensure the viability of Persephone and allows her to be a menace in-game.

Laning

Right off the bet, you'll want to walk all the way towards speed camp, plant 2-3 Harvest plants there, go to mid lane, set up 3-4 stacks there, go back and go to the speed camp. This way you're maximizing your mana and your time, and preparing yourself to clear the camps.

I recommend getting Flourish at level 3 because you can't deal a lot of burst damage at level 3 like a Hera or a Merlin could, so you're better safe than sorry. By the time you reach level 5, you'll be able to take control of your teamfights with your excessive amount of zoning and Crowd Control.

Always keep some plants near your tower line. You'll have some plants near their tower line thanks to Bone Rush, but if you get pushed under tower, you won't have a line of defense ready against a possible dive.

Pros / Cons

Pros:
  • Amazing burst damage
  • Safe character (Can deal a lot of damage from far away)
  • Excelent poking
  • Decent waveclear
  • Unique escape
  • Controls teamfights with Grasp of Death
  • Excellent healing in lane
  • Diverse and with a lot of options to work with
  • Extra gold, extra happiness!
  • Can keep fighting for 8 seconds
Cons:
  • Squishy
  • Depends a lot from basic attacks
  • Can get outpushed easily
  • Quite confusing for the first times
  • Weak from behind/caught with her pants down

Tips

To get yourself used to the Bone Rush animation delay, imagine if you used Unstable Vortex, but it only went off at the time that, today, the balls first meet each other.

Persephone has an easy kit, easy enough that you're able to put her entire kit in Instant Cast, which is something I'd recommend sugar!

If you have a feeling a teamfight is going to happen in a bit, Harvest the choke points and main areas of said place (Mid Lane, Fire Giant Pit, etc).

Harvest ahead of you and use Flourish to activate the Sprouts (T2 Harvest), which will instantly turn them into the plants and deal the most damage.

If you have a good aim, try to aim Grasp of Death on someone in between the frontline and the backline. If not, always try to aim in CC'd targets (Rooted, self rooted, stunned, etc.) or in a wall that'll affect most of them.

Grasp of Death will not latch itself onto enemies that are not in the cage's view. So if they're behind a wall (Fire Giant Pit structure wall) they won't get affected.

Conclusion

This was my quick guide to Persephone! I've played at least 8 games with her on PTS so far, and she's quite fun! Of course, I'm not a master in this character (yet) so if you have any feedback, please be sure to comment on this guide, or DM me if you're shy!
Also, I do have a Chang'e guide, and I welcome you to visit it if you ever desire to use the Faerie of the Moon in solo lane!

Love you all shortcakes, Wolf out! xoxo <3

I'd put Talon as one of the key items. She NEEDS the extra mana (150 is a 25% boost on that aspect in the early game), specially in early to mid game. She needs to keep her plants up or else her damage and escape potentials are very much reduced.

IT's either that or the very unwise Book of Toth. Also her 1 can heal her for about 60% of her health by hitting a wave if she has talon and Soul Gem, so there's that too, she doesn't need to use all her seed charges to heal just like 30% with them.

EDIT: also, Talon is one of the few item who gives 3 digits of power, plus a bonus when she's low on health. And in the unavoidable scenario where your passive triggers, it helps a lot since you're stuck at 1hp, aka maximum stacks.

Hey so I have a question: Persephone seems to be pretty well-suited to solo and support as well , although I'm on Xbox so I've only played her once in both of those roles. But anyway , if you're playing Persephone in either solo or support , should you just start with warrior's blessing and guardian's blessing respectively or still use mage's blessing?

No she doesn't.

Solo maybe, Support no.

Persephone is not suitable at all for support. Her only CC outside her ult is a slow. As for Solo, she’s not really much of a frontliner, a splitpusher, a god that can dive the back line (outside of her passive - but she has a damage debuff during that) etc... play her Mid, or ADC (if your Mid is a hunter).

I suppose you have a point , but wouldn't her passive also help her in support? It can give her team an extra 8 seconds of aura items which might be able to help win the teamfight , especially if one of those items is something like pestilence and the enemy team relies on healing. Also , won't the extra gold gain work well with guardian's blessing to snowball in terms of gold?

Hello to all my crème brûlées! I've updated this guide, changed the skill order to level Harvest before Bone Rush, since it's the most efficient way to maximize your damage output. Love you all! xo

Hiiii! nice guide, overall. Your build seems solid to me, i haven't been able to play persephone to test it, but i guess its okay. It was short, but it does contain all you need to know. And you're really sweet with the people that discuss on your guide! I really appreciate that. x

Hey shortcake! I hope you can grab Persephone and try her out as soon as possible, and thank you, I do try to be as well-wishing and sweet as I can be, the world needs a bit of sugar! xoxo

ngl tried your build out in an arena and holy smokes she hits hard! I did have to get Divine Ruin before Soul Gem cuz the enermy team had a Hel but jeebus this actually just shreds without mercy. Upvoted!

Hi raspberry! I'm so happy you had a good game with the build! In cases it's needed, do build your pen before Soul Gem, since the Pen is mightier then the sword, or so mama would say! Thank you so so so so so much for the upvote! xoxo

No rod of tahuti?
2
Kriega1 (143) | August 13, 2019 6:08am
It's already listed under damage options.

But, I mean is there a reason to? It's not a terrible choice, but other than for perhaps her self-heal I don't see a massive reason to get it? Maybe to get more out of her passive (when she resurrects) due to the reduced damage debuff?

I would get items that have proc effects like Soul Reaver, Ethereal Staff, Soul Gem, etc...

We shall see though when she hits live, I haven't had a chance to test her kit properly.

So, I'm thinking Staff of Myridin is core on her.
Since you want to use your escape to speed your 2 in teamfights , but need to keep your 2, so...
2
Kriega1 (143) | August 12, 2019 4:22am
That means it's not core, since it's situational on you pre-placing the 2.
1
GaseousClay (1) | August 12, 2019 4:55am
Why do you say situational? In teamfights you want to only have 2 damaging abilities? (1 and 4)
Her 3 is to speed up the harvest and escape ofc.

From what I understood she can place 6 skulls at one time, 4 later.
So, jump once to evolve to 4s , then x2 to get to 24s and have the skulls chase.
Plus after using jump next ones are at 4s stage, so 2nd jump gets them to 24s instantly.

Why get Lotus Crown when she only has a self-heal?

Also Magus is pretty situational on her, dependent on how many Harvest Skulls she has pre-placed when detonating them. Of course you could 2 > 1 > 2 > 3 > Auto but that means your escape is down, and you have to get back in auto range to detonate the second skull, which isn't very safe.
1
WolfWitch (7) | August 14, 2019 4:11pm
Hi sugarpie! Lotus Crown is for when you're in need of defense. While the self-heal is really situational, getting defenses for healing will help you if you ever do use it to try to keep yourself safe. Got it once and it wasn't that bad! Did miss the damage but still, it's an option!

As for Spear of the Magus darling, while it isn't optional for most of the time, but it does an insane amount of damage when used in a good situation, which is when Persephone truly does shine! But alas, Obsidian Shard is a better overall penetration item. xoxo!
