Chase The Enemy!
This build is built by scaling Ao Kuang Basic attack speed/lifesteal/damage NOT his Abilities.

Hi, my name is FirmSlap and this heres my guide to an awesome Ao Kuang

is the Eastern Sea Dragon God that brings chaos and is to be treated as such. Feeble in the beginning, new players may take quite sometime getting used to the learning curve and patience required to play a character like Ao Kuang or The Morrigan versus a god like Anubis for example. Playing a god such as Ao Kuang in 2019 can be quite a challenge due to so many other gods having multiple stuns, roots, knockups, and sleeps. Yes, CC can be beyond annoying but, were The King of The Eastern Seas remember? Surely we have prepared counter-measures for this obstacle.

Patience!

Ahhh yessss, Patience! In a generation so void of it how could one ever muster the perseverance needed to accomplish such a feat? I FirmSlap have found The Answer!

Wait.

Yes. Wait.
Simply wait till your team lowers the HP of an enemy and take the kill.
Now Wait! I know what your thinking... WTF, what kinda cake fed tool are you FirmSlap? Well in a world full of Crowd Control, you have none. Its best you shy away from initiating encounters and move more towards finishing encounters. Ao Kuang is not the type of Mage who can kill you in 1 hit or shoot a freakin beam of light across 3/4 of the Arena. In no way shape or form am i saying, "Do Not Help Your Team", what im saying is dont go diving in the middle of arena or a joust like your Ymir or something and get R***ed by a bunch of CC and abilities.
You Will Rage.

At then end of the day this is a TEAM game and TEAMS have ROLES. Ao Kuang ROLE is to KILL. PERIOD.

Pros / Cons

+Pros
  • Burst Damage
  • Aggressive Playstyle
  • Magical Shredder!
  • Stealth
  • Eats Low Defence Mages/Hunters/Assassins Late Game
  • Shines Mid-Late Game or lvl 15+ with 5 items
  • Ao Kuang & The Morrigan imo are in a class of their own.(for playstle comparison)

    -Cons
  • Squishy.
  • Low Mana/High Mana Cost
  • Can be mistaken for Assassin
  • Playstle makes you forget your a Mage which can prove a big issue when going up agasint certain warriors or other assassins.
  • Ability Dependent
  • Requires Skilled Player to maintain efficiency

Team Work

Team? Take their kills. All of them.

No, seriously. Call me a toxic so what, im The King Of The Eastern Sea's!
Ao Kuang really has no role in a team besides killing(lmao).
He is a mage but has no support abilities what so ever. His team benefits absolutely nothing from him being there besides killing(lmao).
[*]NO Knockups
[*]No Roots
[*]No Stuns
[*]Passive DOES NOT affect ally's
[*]A 2.5s Slow(if all dragons active)
from Dragon Call but since we use that to deal damage, you can count that out also(lmao).
So basically as i said before,
Take their kills. All of them.

Playstyle

PATIENCE IS NEEDED TO BE GOOD WITH Ao Kuang.

  • He is not He Bo, Anubis, Discordia, or any other mage with high damaging abilities from the start.
  • He is to be used with precision to execute kills and get back to the comfort of his team as soon as possible.
  • No matter what game mode you play, Ao Kuang is to stick to the outside of the lanes to prevent 1 hit dives from gods like Odin or lane clears from Kukulkan.
  • Once you have a kill confirmed no matter how its done, get back to your team to refresh the memories of your opponent.(make them forget how big of a troll you are)
Then back to the outskirts for another kill >:-]
  • Wild Storm is only used agasint minions, in between basic attacks, or finishing off an opponent that survived King of the Eastern Seas.
  • Only Throw Dragon Call at the enemy if in pursuit of a last hit.
  • Avoid fighting without Water Illusion Active
  • NEVER attack without Dragon Call Active, you will surely die.
  • Use King of the Eastern Seas wisely.
  • Treat Ao Kuang ultimate as if it were Water Illusion.
  • Use it to exit sticky situations where you are surrounded but 1 enemy gods HP is low enough for you to kill.
  • Use Water Illusion to fade away and catch enemy gods running back to portal with King of the Eastern Seas.
  • If Your Opponents HP isnt low enough King of the Eastern Seas can also be used to toss the enemy in the air during a 1v1 if your receiving too much damage, need time to activate Dragon Call again, or just need to get the F*** AWAY.

Creeping / Jungling

You DO IT!

Alright fine...
While playing game modes like Conquest, Siege, and Joust it is imperative that you stick to the lanes until you have completed Demonic Grip and your level is around that of your opponents.
Ao Kuang is a very squishy character with massive lifesteal potential, so you have some sort of sustain and survivability but, that is in no way your strong point and will lead to your demise if you depend on it.

Stick to the lane man!

I cannot stress how much i see people playing Ao Kuang trying to Live in the jungle early on and get R***ed by Fenrir, Loki, Arachne, Awilix, to name a few.
Instead Use the Jungle soley for passing through to GANK other lanes.

Keypoints to remember:
Fight opponents around the same level or lower
Stay out of Jungle until 5th Item is completed or you have enough skill to get in and out

Skills & Usage

Although Ao Kuang's passive only affects him, it is a blessing to have. When Ao Kuang's dragon sword is fully active damaging an enemy will give 2s cooldown reduction and heal 5% of maximum HP. Take a mental note of this but its not a must have
Water Illusion is Ao Kuang's stealth skill and is to be used as such. Saving you from being gang r**ped or quickly jumping out of a structures gaze, this skill is just what the doctor ordered. The way Ao Kuang's stealth animation is set up(jumping forward)it is by no means used to damage opponents, only used to get away. Which is why this is the last maxed skill but also, the most used.
Dragon Call is Ao Kuang's cream of the crop. Summoning 6 of the Eastern Kings dragon minions swirling around him eagerly waiting to bite chunks out of any enemy willing to step forward. Scaling basic attack damage, speed, and lifesteal takes this skill to the next level. Activating this skill a 2nd time will send out any remaining dragons slowing, and knocking back the enemy. Absolute beautiful skill.
Wild Storm is Ao Kuang's least used skill(in my build and imo). Good for clearing minions, poking at enemies, or finishing off an enemy who somehow survived King of the Eastern Seas. Not much to cover here seeing as this skill has no other benefits besides damage.
King of the Eastern Seas is Ao Kuang's end all. Theres nothing more satisfying than grabbing the neck of an enemy, tossing them in the air, and devouring their limp corpse right before they enter the portal to heal >:-). Imagine this, you catch an enemy in the jungle slippin. Activate Water Illusion to start the troll but be quick because you only have 5s before you reveal yourself. As you approach the enemy activate Dragon Call and begin attacking. King of the Eastern Seaswill reveal an X on the enemy when their HP is low enough to execute. After executing enemy #1 you should now be air born and healed for 30% of maximum HP when skill is maxed. Find enemy #2(75% or lower hp)somewhere in the vicinity of the dragon and dive down on them causing damage and panic. Fight or Flight will kick in and most people choose Flight. Blast the running enemy with Wild Storm which HP should be around 55% now, lowering the HP further. Activate Dragon Call finish the enemy, activate Water Illusion to fade away back to your portal possibly catching enemy #3 on the way back :). This is an effective chain of skills and can be used repeatedly

Item Choice Explaination

Hunter's Blessing

Our goto starter for this particular build. Offering +15 basic attack damage +10mp5 and an extra bonus +15 basic attack and 15% attack speed at max stacks(75), we just cant pass this up. Guardian's Blessing is also a good alternative if facing heavy hitters early on.

Shoes of the Magi

Standard for most magic builds offering 18% Movement speed, +55 Magic Power, and +10 Penetration. Shoes of Focus are also a good alternative if cooldown(+10%) and mana(+250) is needed although you lose penetration

Bancroft's Talon

Passive ability makes Bancroft's Talon best inslot as far as lifesteal goes. Giving a whopping +100 Magical Power, +15% Magical Lifesteal, +150 Mana to start and gaining additional Magical Power and Life Steal scaled from missing HP. In other words the more your enemy drops your HP, the stronger you become in return. If all hits are landed when Dragon Call is active its very hard to kill an Ao Kuang. Being the 3rd highest priced item in the build and the only lifesteal item we use(unless conquesting where you sell shoes for elixer and replace them with more power, possibly more lifesteal)its good to get it out the way first.

Hastened Ring

Self explainitory but, not manditory. This item is totally optional and can be switched out for defense, more power, or lifesteal. Hastened Ring is a blessing to the melee class gods offering +25% attack speed, +7% Movement Speed, and +50 Magical Power also, allowing you to become immune to basic attack movement penalty when attacking. In other words Chase The Enemy!

Spear of Desolation

+100 Magical Power, +15 Magical Penetration, and +10% Cooldown Reduction lands Spear of Desolation the best inslot position for getting through the defence of light or non armored enemys. When facing heavy magical defence Spear of Desolation can be substituted for Obsidian Shard, losing +30 Magical Power and +10% Cooldown Reduction but gaining damage scaled based on the opponents Magical Protections.

Demonic Grip

Demonic Grip gives +65 Magical Power, +30% Attack speed, +7% Movement Speed. Another best inslot item due to base stats and passive which gives makes your basic attacks reduce targets Magical Protection by 12% for 3s with max stack of 3 giving 36% Magical Protection Reduced!!!

Telkhines Ring

The last and most expensive item in this build, Telkhines Ring is the best inslot for this builds end game. +90 Magical Power, +10% Movement Speed, +20% Attack Speed, is just wtf. Not to mention this items passive which grants your basic attacks bonus damage of +10 + 10% of the Magical Power you already have. So for example, if our Magical Power is 100 Telkhines Ring gives +90 Magical Power making our Magical Power now +190. Add the Passive giving +10 Magical Power raising it to +200 and an additional 10% of that which puts us at +220 Magical Power.(if im not mistaken)

Summary

Im the Greatest!

To sum this up Ao Kuang is a great alternative to assassin without having to play an assassin. Plainly put.

*sigh* SF on mobile was acting up on me. Here's what I wanted to say:

The author has Polynomicon listed. I know you said Ao Kuang shouldn't build it, but I think I'm seeing some polys on some ao kuangs (arena games).

Adapting also built it on his ranked games (January 22nd 2019 and earlier).

Maybe the Assassin? Smart guy? Or did you forget Ao Kuang is a Mage?
I thought Assassins jungle? Who said he had to jungle? Your the one who cant read or write because i stated numerous time in this guide to stick to the lane or did you just comment and not read? Take you and your lame *** attitude somewhere else, you dont make the standard for what and what is. Your making negative comments while im going 28-4(ill post the pics right now)with this exact same build.

In arena (against meagre competition), which is irrelevant to the discussion on conquest, and your foolish lack of knowledge on it.

If your pride isn't too great, I can provide a set of useful links to help you understand conquest.

"All Game Modes Guide" - Shows Hunters blessing and tier 1 boots and "mana chalice". Mana chalice on Ao Kuang...hm...

In Conquest you DO NOT build hunters blessing on Ao Kuang. If you're taking him jungle you build Assassins' Blessing, if it's solo lane you build Guardian's Blessing.

FirmlySlapped | March 21, 2019 7:24pm
Yes, ALL GAME MODES. Its Options in the guide for situational usage but the basic build is what i put. I figured people are smart enough to know to put defence in certain situations without me having to lay each build out. If you see my notes i said Guardian's Blessing is also an option, and i also mention under playstyle(i believe) that Ao Kuang is to stay out of the Jungle until Mid-late game so there really lies no need for Assassin's Blessing. Besides, i cant pass up on +30 basic attack 15% attack speed and 10mp5 that Hunters Blessing gives me. Its like perfect for MY Ao Kuang build. This here is my build and you can do as to which you please :). i personally use Chalice of Mana because he has high mana consumption early on and low mana. so instead of spamming mana pots or portaling i just buy Chalice of Mana with the 300g left after buying starter item and boots. Makes sense to me and honestly you can build what you want. This is just an alternative and yes, I DO use this is ALL game modes. Appreciate the feedback though! :P

Why are you maxing your 1 before your 3? 1 is used more for engage/disengage, rather than damage, which is the only thing that gets better. Yes, if you're timing is right it can do the damage.

Other than that I like the build and all the info you give.

i find myself needing to get away more then ever nowadays since the game has become so CC heavy, not so much for the dmg. its just a personal preference, you could level it any way you like :)
