Summary

These are not your only options! I believe these are strong builds that will help but items should be subbed out situationally.

If you have any feedback or think I should change some items I would be happy to hear your input! I am new to building in this game so I have already learned a lot from what you guys have to say. Thanks for your help!

You can't build frostbound on Sobek, also don't build Hecate on him.

you think rod of tahuti and soul reaver would be good replacements?

Kriega1 (143) | April 17, 2020 10:05am
Tahuti no. Reaver can be fine but only late in the build and I would prioritise Ethereal over it.

How can you have a solo lane build with only 1 start?
1
saladman72 | April 17, 2020 6:19am
I find it important to get early game potions when playing sobek in solo, considering how slow his early game moves. Imo potions are stronger than upgrading the breastplate to level 2

You still don't see the problem.

Im asking what do you start if you're against a magical in solo because you don't have a listed start for that.

Regarding your damage build, I wouldn't play a damage build in solo lane, but I think some improvements could be made. Stone of Gaia isn't that great of an item right now. It had some functionality in Assault a while back, before the healing buffs were a thing. Otherwise, stone of Gaia just isn't a good item.

Gem of iso isn't that great in him either. His ult doesn't apply it until he erupts, his 2 is a knock up (the slow duration pretty much ends by the time the knock up is done), and you have the same issue with his 1. He just cant reliably apply the slow from gem of iso.

I typically would only build damage if I had a very strong advantage over the other solo lane when by mid game. Thanks for the feedback I plan to change both gem of iso and gaia stone later when I get the opportunity to check out different items

Hey Saladman, how are you?

Talking about your guide, I didn't like 2 items: Stone of Gaia and Gem of Isolation, but why?
  • Stone of Gaia - The passive can be easily countered by anti-healing and the stats are very bad, there are way better items to provide HP to you.
  • Gem of Isolation - Since the nerf, this item slow goes away very quick, even before you cast your second ability the effect would have gone. It also don't stack with your ulti since it only applies with damage, so I can't see any reason to build it. Instead, build Ethereal Staff.
  • In addition, Spear of Desolation is not a solo item. You have other ways to get cooldown and power on a solo.

Thanks for the critique! Any recommendations to replace those items?

Myst suggested E-Staff as a replacement for Gem. As for a replacement for Gaia, I think you mostly look at it for the health and health regen, right? If so, I'd say you probably need to deal with not having too much healing outside of your own ability. Any other tank or counter type items are great to build. You give 2 build examples, but you should never be limited to just those types of builds...give a listing of optional/situational item considerations.

I think Kriega strongly advocated against Divine Ruin on Sobek a while ago for anti heal.
Right now, your go to anti heal item against a physical solo laner should probably be Contagion.

Thanks for the feedback I'll try it out!

Yeah, you probably don't need Breastplate of Valor that early, though it's not bad. You can opt for Contagion as your first physical protection if you really need anti-heal, or maybe instead you get BoV, and then Pestilence.

Keep in mind, you already have anti-heal in Sickening Strike that's stronger than any general item. Combine that with Contagion or Pestilence at any point and you're an anti-heal machine...or don't worry about anti-heal too much if there's only one major healer on their team.

That said, say you're dominating lane, and your team is dominating, and you're looking to maintain aggression. After you've gotten some base physical and magical prots, I don't see a specific problem getting Divine Ruin (situationally only) against a very heavy healing comp. You can apply the anti-heal with that so easily through all of your abilities, and if you combine that with Sickening, you'll be shutting down almost 100% of their healing.

It's always good to keep your options open.
