In all gamemode I start with attacker's blessing. In conquest start with assassin's blessing (if junglers).

When you build Thanatos full damage you will easily one-shot tanks. Thanatos first ability is also a good font of healing so if you need use it on minions. Do attack cancelling and nobody will escape from you.

I didn't put items like Jotunn's Wrath, Brawler's Beat Stick because they wouldn't be in combo with his second ability that gives you +35 physical penetration at the last level so you will overflow with the cap and lose 10 physical penetration and, because Thanatos is an extremely high single damage god, it wouldn't be useful from the moment that you engage when you active the second before or in the fight.
Critical items are crazy on Thanatos because his high damage basic attacks, practically with a critical you get 500-600 health off on a tank and 1100-1200 health off from a squishy god.
I build first Hydra's Lament because his crazy combo -second-ultimate-basic-first-basic- that basically one shot every god in early game and with critical you one shot every god also in late game.
Malice is just for have more critical chance and a little bit of cooldown reduction but also for his +40 physical power damage, quite good no? It practically gives you +200 damage on a critical.
Yes, Thanatos is an ability based god but with crits he obtain too much damage from only a basic attack so I tend to build him up critical a bit.
Bloodforge is a good item, you could add it in my build but you need to choose an item to put away, as you will see you will put away only malice that gives you more critical chance so more consistency in your combo.
I didn't added Magi's Cloak, Void Shield and Ancile in defense options because I didn't want to make a brawler Thanatos but a burst one who can one-shot you and if you have extremely need to build up a defense item build it for defense not for physical power. I added defense items that gives you cooldown reduction because in my build there isn't any. The only item I would add is Magi's cloak but if you need to active its effect you simple died because you don't need it in 1vs1 (because of Thanatos first ability that heals you and second, easy escape) so if you need it active you are beginning ganked so you died (Thanatos is not good in 2vs1 if he doesn't attack for first and one shot one :D )
I'm not a pro player on smite so I don't know why my build couldn't be good on conquest but if you say so I will add it to the title.
Definitely your build is more like a brawler on that a burst one, that I prefer most.
