ABILITIES

Athena's abilities are very powerful in the CC element, which includes a slow and a taunt. She has two high damaging abilities, which helps her with her viability and her ability to be played in multiple roles

REACH
Reach is a vary straightforward passive. It increases your basic attack magical power by 15% while making it a ranged attack, that goes through walls, after using an ability, making it a very useful execution/poking tool

This ability can not be leveled, and is active at all times.

PREEMPTIVE STRIKE

#1
Preemptive Strike is a dash,
which has a charge up time of 1,5 seconds, that goes through minions. but stops at enemy gods, dealing 80/130/180/230/280 (+50% of your magical power), and applies a 25% slow to enemy gods for 2.25s

This ability should be leveled second, after Shield Wall and before Confound

Use this ability for the following circumstances:
- Disrupt Enemy Team Escape/Chase Potential.
- Getaway and Chase
- Slow Source to ensure Shield Wall Damage.

CONFOUND

#2
Confound is a pure CC ability, which forces enemies to walk in Athena's direction, while basic attacking.
The duration goes up by the level (1.0/1.25/1.5/1.75/2.0s).

This ability should be leveled third, after Preemptive Strike and before Defender of Olympus.

Use this ability for the following circumstances:
- Force enemies to use Purification Beads.
- Initiate teamfights.
- To force an enemy to attack you, and not your teammate.

SHIELD WALL

#3
Shield Wall is an important ability for Athena and her combos. This ability has 2 states, the first, when the ability is activated (70/110/150/190/230 (+50% of your Magical Power)), and, after 2 seconds, when the ability disappears, it applies a second roll of damage (70/135/200/265/330. (+50% of your Magical Power))

This ability should be leveled first

Use this ability for the following circumstances:
- Main Damage Tool.
- Apply damage to the enemy team.
- Use it to zone choke points

DEFENDER OF OLYMPUS

#4
Defender of Olympus certainly deserves its name. It allows you to select an ally, and you'll teleport to him, after 3,6 seconds, dealing area damage (350 / 450 / 550 / 650 / 750 (+90% of your Magical Power)), and it mitigates 20% of the damage taken by him. On top of that, it also makes you CC immune.

You should put 1 point in Defender of Olympus at level 5. From there, it should be leveled last.

Use this ability in the following circumstances:
- Deal insane burst damage.
- Become CC immune and teleport in/away to/from a good/bad engagement.
- Force Enemies to Relocate.
- Become Globally present

~Items~

Intro Pros/Cons Skills Items Relics Jungle Summary Other Guides Guide updates
Core item #1 - Power / Penetration / Movement
Shoes of the Magi is the first core item. It gives +55 Magical power, 10 Magical Penetration and +18% Movemnt Speed.
These are the boots you'll always want to pick when playing Athena jungle. The penetration it provides is essential for you dash out some early damage, as your base damage and scalling are tuned down, since Athena's a guardian. It also gives you some much needed Magical Power, which helps suppress early game damage issues.

Core #2 - Power / Protections / Passive
Stone of Binding is the second core item. It gives +30 Magical Power, +30 Magical and Physical Protections and a passive, that decreases the enemy protections for 5 seconds.
Athena, benefits from this hybrid tank/damage item. The protections it provides allows you to stay in combat longer. You need this since Athena can be relatively squishy, depending the enemy team combination. It also gives you some power, which helps you in dealing early damage. Lastly, this item's passive allow you to decrease both of the enemy's protections by 15 for 5 seconds, which is alot early in the game.

Core Item #3 - Power / Protection / Passive
Celestial Legion Helm is the third core item. It gives +60 Magical Power, +40 Physical Protection, +20 MP5 and a passive, that increase your Physical Protection while not taking damage.
Athena works well with this hybrid item. The power it provides allows you to do more damage. You need this since Athena can be relatively weak also gives you some Physical Protection, which helps suppress early game aggresion from assassins and hunters.

Recommended Item #1 - Power / Protections / Health / Passive
Void Stone is the first recommended item. It gives +150 Health, +60 Magical Protection, +20 Magical Power and a passive that decreases the enemy's Magical Protection.
Athena works well with this item, giving you a small increase in her damage, but it's actually even more, because of the passive, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. The health it provides allows you to stay in combat longer, and it also gives you some Magical Protection, which helps suppress middle/late game aggresion from mages, coupled with it's passive, it's almost a no brainer for the jungler.

Recommended Item #2 - Power / Mana / Lifesteal / Passive
Polinomicon is the second recommended item. It gives +75 Magical Power, 12% Lifesteal, +300 Mana and a passive that gives Reach extra damage.
Athena benefits from the multiple stats this item gives her, the power gives her more raw destructiviness, the lifesteal and mana gives her a more present presence and a small degree of surviveability, coupled with the passive that allows her to deal extra damage with her basic attack, especifically her Reach really helps her continue her presence, that a lot of times is the presence that dictates how a team fights goes.

Recommended Item #3 - Power / Passive
Obsidian Shard is the third recommended item. It gives +70 Magical Power and a passive that helps you shred tanks and warriors.
Athena benefits from raw shred damage that Obsidian Shard gives your. It allows your Shield Wall to pierce even the thoughest hide, destroying health bars and sending players back to the base.

Recommended Item #4 - Power / Health / CCR / Passive
Ethereal Staff is the fourth recommended item. It gives +90 Magical Power, +200 Health, 20% CCR and a passive that steasls the enemy health and mana and gives it to you.
Athena needs the raw damage from this item, and it's other multiple stats really does help her shine. The health gives her more survivability, the CCR gives her less time under CC and the passive that allows her to steal her enemy's health and mana and use it as her own for quite some time transforms her into the most fearsome guardian jungle out there.

Recommended #5 - Protections / CDR / CCR / Passive
Spirit Robe is the fifth recommended item. It gives +40 Physical and Magical Protections, +20% CCR, 10% CDR and a passive that gives damage mitigation.
Athena benefits from the multiple stats this item gives her, the protections giving her more survivability, the CDR and CCR giving her more frequent abilities and less time under CC, coupled with the passive that allows her to mitigate damage Really helps her become a power house to be reckoned with in the late game.

~Relics~

Intro Pros/Cons Skills Items Relics Jungle Summary Other Guides Guide updates

Relic #1
Blink Rune is a relic. It teleports the player up to 55 units in front of you, when out of combat for 3 seconds.
Athena benefits from the early use of this relic in multiple ways. It allows her to make engagements over walls, while also giving her another movement tool, which not only is a tool that helps destroy the enemy, it's also a tool that gives you more power over the enemy's mindset. Overall, this is an amazing relic that, when used correctly, can completely favor the game in your way.

Relic #2
Purification Beads is a relic. It gives CC Immunity for 2 seconds and, when upgraded, the cooldown is decreased by 30 seconds.
Athena benefits from this in multiple ways. It allows her to escape a CC lockdown, while also being able to escape some Executes or Banish ultimates, which not only is small victory because you made the enemy waste a precious ult, but you saved yourself in the process. Overall, this is an amazing relic that, when used correctly, can completely favor the team fight in your way, however, it's mostly used defensively.

Relic #3
Heavenly Wings is a relic. It gives 20% Movement Speed, immunity to slows and, when upgraded, immunity to movement penalties to auto attacks.
Athena's team benefits from this in multiple ways. It allows her to make her team more mobile, for either closing the gap to a escaping enemy god, or to help herself and her team escape an enemy engagement. It's quite useful early game, especially considering possible early ganks to duo lane, may it be an enemy or an allied gank.

Relic #4
Cursed Ankh is a relic. It takes away 50% Healing from the enemy team, and, when upgraded, enemies being healed receive +20% damage from your team.
Athena's team benefits from this in specific games, when they're playing againts healers. If healers are left unchecked, they'll just heal away all the damage your team deals, effectively winning engagements. Taking away half of that healing not only renders them useless, as it also helps your team burst through the enemy team, if you have this relic upgraded. This is a situational relic, and it works best while it's used together with Pestilence.

Thanks for putting in all the time you spent on this guide
I can suggest testing out HoG AKA Wrath on her as first active. Your objective stealing potential / enemy lockdown is literally insane. Dash in/blink , shield wall, taunt, Wrath for another stun, AAsecure with team mates / dash out escape if u blinked in

I'm only V with her, but I main support (X Geb, Bacc, Ymir) and I do this all the time hehe

To be honest, one of the most challenging builds I've tried. Partly due to the fact I am not the best Jungler. So, with that said, Prism, I'm going to practice Jungling first and record your video when I can give it a fair shot. I love the idea, however.

ThePerfectPrism (56) | May 3, 2016 10:07am
That's fine.

From my experience, it helps you with your clear (since athena doesn't have the highest AS) and the aura has helped ME secure kills a lot of times. Do what u want mate !

MalaMadre96 | May 3, 2016 1:55am
I don't really agree with Mystical Mail as a Core item, stills a expensive item with only the utility of area damage, also, being athena makes it worse, since it will be full magical damage, and not mixed like if you were a physical god. Breastplate of Valor it's a better choice IMO, since cooldowns stills being more damage.

I just used this build playing support and went 10/0/13.

It's a rubbish support build, but abandoning my carry to follow my dreams of being a jungler 2 minutes into the match was fun!

I love Athena in the jungle. I have her diamond. Interesting MM second item, haven't tried that. I will next time. I usually go ethereal second item. Also it's hard for me to choose another pen item over void stone, but if you don't go void stone I would use Obsidian Shard because Athena doesn't have DoT and it is usually unlikely to hit both damage walls. But CDR boots are a must with that extra mana early game. My usual build is CDR boots, eth staff, spirit robe or mail of ren, void stone, soul rev, rod of tah. But good guide.

Thank you <3 It's always nice to receive positive feedback from other 10 Athena players <3

Prism, I try your build on 3 different games... It works perfectly! :D
However, I build Spear of the Magus instead of Soul Reaver as I needed more penetration than what the Void Stone provides.

Do you build void stone and spear? I would go Obsidian Shard instead of spear if you do not go void stone.

For Spear of the Magus to be effective, you would need to hit your 1, then drop 3, then taunt into wall to hit it second time, which can be done but at least in my experience in teamfights it is hard to focus one god that much.
