Skills

Vulcan skills:

Forge (passive)

Vulcan transfers 30% of his protections and 15% of his health to his turrets. In addition, when Vulcan is within 30 ft of his own deployables they regen 3% of their health every second because of their proximity to the Forge.
Backfire

Vulcan blasts a fireball out of his Forge, dealing 85/145/205/265/325 (+70% of your magical power) magical damage to all enemies in its path. The strength of the blast also knocks Vulcan 20ft back.
Cost: 65/70/75/80/85 mana.
Cooldown: 15s.
Inferno Cannon

Vulcan constructs an Inferno Cannon that shoots fireballs in a cone that deal 65/100/135/170/205 (+20% of your magical power) magical damage to the target every second. The Inferno Cannon lasts until destroyed or another is placed. This inherits Vulcan's penetrations but does not apply on-hit effects.
Cost: 65/70/75/80/85 mana.
Cooldown: 15s.
Thumper XVI

Vulcan constructs a Thumper XVI that deals 15/20/25/30/35 (+10% of your magical power) magical damage every second and slows enemies hit by 5/10/15/20/25%, increasing with Focus up to 35%, for 2s. The Thumper XVI lasts until destroyed or another is placed. This inherits Vulcan's penetrations but does not apply on-hit effects.
Cost: 70/75/80/85/90 mana.
Cooldown: 15s.
Vulcanic overdrive (ultimate)

When Volcanic Overdrive is activated, Vulcan gains 15/20/25/30/35% movement speed and 10/20/30/40/50 protections for 6s. All of Vulcan's structures fire 50% faster and gain massive regeneration. The Inferno Cannon also fires in a 360 radius and auto targets gods while under the effects of Volcanic Overdrive.
Cost: 100 mana
Cooldown: 90s

Playing style

How do you play Vulcan, agressive or passive? You will find the answer here.

I usually play Vulcan mid because he can clear waves so fast and can get all the last hits very easy. When you go mid, carefull for other gods that can clear lanes very fast. You know, minions hurt very badly in the beginning. I try to put my turret behind my minions but at the wall. And i still hit all the minions, make sure the minions won't focus your turret but it can happen. I place my Thumper at my melee minions but this depends on you. You can also play it very agressive and put it between the enemy melee and ranged minions. At the early levels, try to harass the enemy as much as possible with your turret and stomper, but this isn't very easy. It doesn't take much to take it down in the beginning.

Always take a small jungle camp at the beginning. Do it with your left or right lane, but this provides a lot of extra gold and experience, the advantage is very handy. When you spawn, inmediatly go to the small camp and place your turret. Recall, buy your items and then you can go clear the camp. Why? To save mana and take the camp without getting damage.
Note: This is a pretty important note. If you are standing in tower range with your little turret and the turret attacks an enemy god, the tower will target you! Watch out for this.

Ganking

This is very easy when you spend a few points in thumper xvi, this slow is huge! If you place your turret correct so that people walk in it when they try to run, you placed it good. This secures a very easy kill or assist. This is even more easy when they are hitting the turret already. So watch the minimap and try to spot your chance. If you gank you can also put a turret down so you are farming while you are moving to another lane, this is a must on him to keep your farm and exp very high. The cooldowns should be back when you arrive, if not, you wait and hide in the jungle for a second.

Warding

This is basicly my motto and i will use it in every guide because it's true, vision on the map can make the difference. You can see that i went for a ward, place this one when all the buffs spawn. If they have a jungler you will be able to pick him off very easy or trap him. When they don't, it's very likely that your other mid will take the attack buff, so you can ward that too! It's very easy to steal the buff and maybe take a kill too. You just place your thumper xvi and then your Inferno Cannon. This will make it very easy.

Kite!

This is what Vulcan makes so strong, he can kite someone around his turrets while he tries to kill you but he can't get to you because of your thumper xvi. A great example is here in this video from drybear, he gets ganked and get's a kill and a very low Anubis out of it..

5:07 to 5:26

What to do in team fights?

In team fights you basicly put your Inferno Cannon down and your thumper xvi and inmediatly use your ultimate! Because it will focus gods and will shoot in a range of 360°.
Endgame you do a lot of damage with Backfire so you can use this to finish people. (325 damage + 70% of your magical damage so if you calculate everything with a full build this is 325 + 468,75 = 793 flat magical damage!) So you can tell this can easily take out a loki trying to escape because he is low health. The utility you get from it isn't that great but you can do some great moves.

You can engage very well, you just put your Inferno Cannon and thumper xvi down and get out again. You are tanky so you can afford some damage. But your cannons will destroy them. You keep distance and try to adjust your turret and thomper and fininsh people off with Backfire. If you don't have a specific tank in your team, stay in the middle of the action but your whole team has to come with you. This is a bit harder though.
note: I still like engaging with another strong engager like Ymir or Thor better.

Items

reinforced bootsreinforced boots: this is i think the most logical and simple item you can get on Vulcan, it gets you early hp5 and very good physical and magical armor. This gives you this earlygame sustain.

Void Stone: This gives you the advantage against another god in mid. These are mostly magical. But if he isn't, still pick this item because of it's debuff and that's great for your turrets.

Book of Thoth: This gives you the mana regen and extra mana so you can spam your Inferno Cannon and thumper xvi. This is handy if you placed it wrong or you want to place it in a jungle camp. It also gives you this nice magical power and mana stacks.

warlock's sashwarlock's sash: This item is basicly perfect for Vulcan, it gives health so it increases your passive forge. This also has this stacks for magical damage and health that's very awesome because you get stacks very fast with Vulcan.

Gauntlet of Thebes: This item improves your stacks to the amount where it's crazy. This item is basicly health, hp5 and health stacks wich again, you get very fast with Vulcan.

Rod of Tahuti: This item gives you the monster damage at the end, it increases your magical power with a huge amount.

Wall of Absolution: This is also a great item choice, it's very good on Vulcan when there is a bigger force of physical damage. This gives you also a bit of magical protection. This is when you are playing for example against an anhur mid. If you have this, take this item a bit more early.

Hide of Leviathan: This is a great item agains a well balanced team and gives you amazing sustain and armor. Recommended to take.

mystical markMystical mark: This item is great for more armor and health, this is again good for your passive forge.

Breastplate of Valor: This item is great against physical power. This item gives you the most physical protection you can get on 1 item.

Bulwark of Hope: This gives you good magical armor and a fairly amount of health. This makes your kiting even better because you get a shield and mostly, you will kite people that over-extend.

winged wandWinged wand: This is a great item to increase kiting technique and when the enemy team is full of slows. Only pick this in an occasion when they have a bunch of slows that are dangerous for you.

Bancroft's Talon: Good item when you are much ahead in kills and farm. If you do, this is great for the lifesteal and health.

Obsidian Shard: I don't pick this item very much but when i do, theres a lot of magical damage gods in the enemy team.

Abilities

Purification Beads: You can escape when your in a bad position, actually you always need this item on every god, every game in my opinion. Unless your really overpowered.

Aegis Amulet: When someone does his ultimate that does a huge nuke you can easily block it and actually win the fight. Also when you are engaging this can be quite good. If everybody is focusing you. Then your team can go all in when you didn't take any damage.

sprintsprint: You want to chase someone or get away? This is the item to do it! Always usefull to kite even more.

Heavenly Agility: You can get your team somewhere in and out quickly, this is a great support item. Your team will love it.

Creeping / Jungling

You can take anything with your Inferno Cannon and thumper xvi. You can leave it on a jungle camp, but i don't recommend this because you need it to clear minions. What you can do is putting it down and run away, your turret will clear it and you don't have to worry and waste time auto attacking it.

Best combo gods in duo lane

Odin: if he uses his ultimate you can shoot through and hit everyone in the ultimate. You can also place the thumper xvi in. Also, odin's shouts buff the turret attack speed.

Arachne: If she can land her Cocoon, place your thumper xvi down and your turret in a good spot and they will have a hard time escaping with that big slow. While Arachne is eating the brains from the poor guy.
Sobek: This is also very easy if Sobek can land his Charge Prey. Place your thumper xvi in the spot where he will land or in the escaping route where he will go to.
Ares: This is in my opinion on of the best combos, if Ares pulls someone you have your structures deployed and ready. Just say to Ares that he has to pull them into the turret and tumper. With the thumper xvi slow + the Shackles slow they won't even be able to walk away. More like... crawling.
Thor: Thor is one of the best gods that can support you in zoning the other gods. From the moment they come close place your turret and thor stuns them in the range of the turret. They won't dare to come close. Watch out in the beginning, this isn't really able because of minion damage.
Ymir: Ymir can slow, wall them and totally block them from running away from the your turret range. This is great fun to play with this combo. You can lol all the time at the enemy.

Counters

Odin: If he catches you in his ultimate and you are alone this a pretty bad situation. You have trouble with placing your Inferno Cannon in the good position and your thumper xvi hasn't got much effect.

Bastet: An experienced Bastet can own a whole team but it's not very hard to own a Vulcan for her. Because she can come up, do Pounce, nine tails and razor claws and Pounce right back out while you didn't even had the time to put your thumper xvi down. She can also destroy your structures very easy early on.
Vulcan: Another Vulcan can be very dangerous. I hope you have more damage then him or you will have a bad time. It's 1 Vulcan that's clearly winning, i hope it's you.

Lore

When the Gods of Rome ride chariots across the sky, it is Vulcan that made them. When they reach for weapons to wield in battle, it is Vulcan that forged them. When the very earth rumbles and mountains erupt in searing flame, it is Vulcans rage that burns. Smith of the Gods, Vulcan crafts with fire and forge as an artist would with paint and brush.

As an infant, so hideous was Vulcan that his disgusted mother, Juno, cast him into the sea from the heights of Mount Olympus. So great was the fall, it smashed one of Vulcans legs, a wound from which he would never recover. Beneath the waves, a sea nymph, Thetis, rescued the child-god and raised him as her own. As Vulcan grew, he ventured to the surface and discovered fire and the art of smithing. His natural talents emerged and he forged wondrous jewels for his adopted mother.

Summoned to a gala on Mount Olympus, Thetis wore Vulcans glittering gifts, but when Juno discovered Vulcan had made them, she jealously demanded he return to Mount Olympus. Angrily, Vulcan refused. In his stead, he sent a magnificent throne of gold and gems that imprisoned Juno when she sat upon it.

For three days Juno was so entombed, and would have remained so had not Jupiter, Vulcans father, interjected. To Vulcan he offered an exchange, Junos freedom for the hand of Venus, the most beautiful Goddess of Love. Vulcan agreed.

Though his vengeance was served cold, the fire of spite still burns in Vulcans chest. Unable to truly forgive, he loses himself at the forge. None of the wondrous chariots, jewelry or weapons he crafts can ever fill the hurt in his heart, but each one is worthy of a God.

Can you add a image or something about the positioning of the Cannon and Thumper?
I see people having trouble with that, just placing it randomly hoping for good results.

Awesome guide bro! +1

No need for me to rewrite my old Vulcan build at all (made it when focus was in the game and archived it because I didn't have the time to fix it when they removed it). But I might just do it if I got nothing else to do.

I think the turrets go with Minion AI, as they are counted as Minions.

damn fast reply i didnt get a chance to edit lol yeah hp counts as well, i was thinking of something else T__T

1 thing though, how on gods earth do you keep ppl in your zone, i found that turret dmg is actually not as high as i thought it was even with full dps build, and there are a few issues, like turrets dont target gods when you drop them and a god is in range, i found it sometimes mostly attacked creeps and also the slow from thumper is so small especially early game. personally i would like to see them add cripple to the thumper to compensate its low dps and turret ai be a bit better.

I think it goes on your current health at your health bar not at your items.

Blink would probably be another great ability item choice as Vulcan can blink into a fight without the enemy seeing it coming. Try to Blink behind them, place your structures and activate your ultimate. They will be forced to either face your team head-on or run through huge damage! This even works early game, as you could push them into your minions and away from their tower - or they may still try to run through and get hit with a Backfire.

Would it make sense to add Freya as a counter, because of her 1 and 2 that can quickly kill turrets and an Ulti which Vulcan's turrets cant do anything about?

EDIT: And Banish which prevents Vulcan from placing turrets?
