How would you keep Ares as a Guardian?

I know has a lot of issues in the Guardian role, mainly because he has no way to actually peel for his adc. Most people say that the only way to safe Ares is to turn him into a Warrior( treatment) and call it a day.

I however would actually like to keep a Guardian, but a viable one. My main idea would be to change his passive , maybe including some new mechanic like this:
Disarm: A new form of CC which prevents autoattacks for a duration. The opposite of silence.
or Mana Drain (self explanatory)

What would YOU do?

Ares actually works pretty damned well as a guardian.

The only difference is that he can only peal aggressively, and I mean ONLY aggressively. If the enemy lane gets the upper hand you lose.

That is why you can basically only play Ares support when you got duo on the left side (getting late into lane without HOG = loss).

If you have lane pressure all you have to do as Ares is apply chains and deal tons of damage while your ADC clears the wave. And if an enemy gets out of position you chain and flame them while your ADC kills them (remember that you can get 2 ticks of chain damage before applying a new chain on a target for max DPS and CC).

So yeah IMO Ares is perfect as is. He is basically a early game "carry" support :P

But he is pretty damned bad in the late game, maybe do something with his 3. Which is pretty damned bad except the CC reduction :)

Do you think they should keep his passive though? I mean is really powerfull in arena but in CQ i think is a bit weird for a Guardian. Also i feel like his ult is a hell to balance too.

His passive is meh for sure in CQ, but Sov + WB/VS + MM is 90 magical power (just from the passive) so that is the same as some other support building at least 2 protection items and a power item.

So I do not think it is a bad passive, it just further magnifies that Ares is an aggressive **** (as long as you take advantage of the passive ofc) :P

He does however take a lot of ****ing skill to play well in high lvl play, that is for sure.

Thanks for answering! I just see a lot of people saying he sucks so I started seen his weaknesses more often. I love playing (although for a long time I played exclusively arena so that probably has something to do with it). I would love to be able to save my carry more often though.

Yeah like he is 100% garbage unless you are able to dominate the lane :P

He's awful. There is no such thing as "peeling offensively." Peeling by definition is stopping someone from murdering your ADC, and that's always a defensive act by definition.

His damage is strong, yes, but that is it. If the enemy team can juke, or even better, poke Ares to death, you're done. He can't peel; all he can do is prevent the enemy from escaping, and he can't use his damage if he's at 30% health.

Not to mention how literally every other tank counters him. They have immediate CC that interrupts Ares' delayed damage. And remember, all he has is that damage.

His itemization and passive are also garbage. Mystical Mail is garbage for its price and is a waste of gold, Witch Blade has zero synergy with his kit and is a waste of gold, void stone is a waste of gold due to how unbelievably squishy it makes you.

There was a time where tanks used MM and VS. But when VS got nerfed and MM's damage got weaker and weaker and power creep made new champs have higher base health and magical protections. Now, the only one to use those items is Ares - and he's low tier garbage trash baloney drivel excrement **** poop **** defiled waste sacrilegious unholy blemished tainted rubbish in the shape of a god.

He can be fun to play, at least. He does have potential to be good, it's just that everything is against him right now.

So being aggressive and forcing the enemy lane to play defensively, is not giving your ADC room to farm freely (and thereby making peeling unnecessary because, well frankly you do not have to peal minions)?

He is a niche pick for sure, but there is a few top tier supports that play him pretty frequently even in tournament play :P

So saying he is borderline trash tier is wrong, stuff like Chang'e support is trash tier.

I would like him to be a warrior, because you know he's the "God of War" not the "God of Protection", but until then I'll take what I get and I feel is still as powerful as he is and doesn't need to become a warrior right now. Until there's no reason why he should not be a guardian and should be a warrior, when it gets confirmed that he'll comeback as a warrior then I'm all up for it.
