You can't do it directly. There will always *always* be bad people, and there's no fix to a person. When a club gets a bad reputation, it's from the people who go there. When a neighborhood is known as the bad part of the city, it's because of the people who live there. The only way is to make the club more likeable, the neighborhood facilities better, and in our case, the game better, so everyone enjoys it.

There is no fix.

There's only the workaround.

Well, I discovered that possitive thinking can get people in the mood.

We were 4v5, and everyone in the team (a group of spanish people, like me) wanted to surrender. But I started saying that if we died, we would die standing, and let's go **** them up first. And everyone started "YEAH, LET'S **** THEM UP" and tried their hardest to beat the **** out of them. Of course, all of this in spanish, with things like "ESO ES, AQUÍ MANDA MI POLLA", which i won't translate.

So, with a little speech you can change the mood to a "try hard but fun" mode. The first thing you must do to improve the douchery, is to smile at your defeat.

Then you're being ignorant. (:

Ignorant? Hardly. You're just making a strawman argument.

Are there toxic people in all games? Of course, but MOBAs have the most toxic community you won't find anywhere else. This is singlehandedly the only genre of games where most people worship a meta like a god, and will criticize you severely to the point of absolute insulting should you not follow it. And even if you follow the meta, you're still subject to insulting criticism for 'not doing it right'.

I honestly believe the reason people are so toxic in "MOBA" games in general is because of the pay out. There is real money to be earned playing these games, Twitch partnerships, Youtube, and yes the big leagues "Major League Gaming" the LCS!

I honestly believe at least 90% of the ranked player base in any of these games play for the sole reason to go pro, youtube, twitch even if they don't upload they have plains of doing so once they reach Gold, Diamond or Challenger, however the toxic ones only see a small piece of the whole picture. The reason people are making money is because they have something to offer to the community or are in fact really good players.

These Toxic Players end up being such tryhards because they honestly believe that the only thing holding them back from promotions into a new division or that slice of that prize pool/internet fame is their so called ****** team-mates. I mean think about we have different ranks and only the higher ranks are in any real position to make money or go pro/grab some internet fame.

And when the entire community believe's in things like ELO Hell they have no real reasons to improve there own gameplay and fess up to their own short comings. So they just look for a scapegoat every round example "we lost because Jungle never ganked my lane!" No you lost because you were never in a good position to receive a gank, you kept over extending and fed the enemy lane, or even if your gamestats are positive something like 9-2-4 you could still be the number one reason your team lost due to being absent in teamfights/objective it's not always the guy going 0-3-0 by 10 minutes, but sometimes it is.

As long as we have large prize-pools we will always have Toxic tryhards who will never see the big picture of what separates their gameplay from someone who is playing on a professional level. Now don't get me wrong some games are unwinable due to bad team-mates, but keep playing take a break, go for a walk and then think about this professionals win more they loss usually, are you winning more then you lose? if it's about 50-50 and your staying at the same rank for a long period of time then matchmaking is not broken at all that's where you belong. However each time you lose you get that much farther away from that goal of being in the big leagues so Toxicity happens and will happen.

Normal's should always have a different emphases then ranked, but these toxic players sometimes get them confused for the same thing, I don't like seeing a first time support in ranked and I will get mad if they end up sucking, but in a normal you gotta learn to support/jungle/hunter/mid/solo somewhere and this is where Toxic players should not be tryhards and put their bad attitudes in a box are you losing your rank/standing for losing this game? "NO SO STOP BEING A TRYHARD YOU LOSE NOTHING FOR LOSING NORMALS JUST TIME", not that it's okay toxic in ranked but it is just downright stupid to have that attitude in a normal, MOTD, Etc!

Note Ranked is for Tryhards, I don't like playing ranked unless I know for sure what I'm doing because when you play ranked you should be playing to win you should be giving it your all. You should play with the motive to win! I mean really you are playing to see what is your level are you a bronze player or can you go gold?

Toxicity will always exist in any game with competition. I've seen loads of it in MOBAs, FPSs, MMORPGs, etc. Off topic, but honestly, maybe it's because Smite is the only MOBA that I've extensively played considering I didn't like League, I've seen way more toxicity in FPSs and MMOs in the time I've been playing those. The FPS community, especially CoD, who has a horrid community, is the worst I've ever seen, and hell, I've had people tell me they hope my family and I die of cancer numerous times in some MMO I used to play, and that's not even the worst I've had directed at me.

As for Smite in particular, it's really hard to change a lot of people if you don't know them. If you have a friend that acts like this, sure, you can try to change them, but you probably won't be changing any of these randoms you'll come across that will brew a **** storm over the game. Like others are saying, you can definitely help to make the game more enjoyable by just being a fun person to play with or by helping others. You can help give others a positive experience, and that'll make it fun, whether or not you're losing. However, it's not going to change the fact that there will always be toxic players in this game. All we can do is be good members of the community so that, hopefully, those toxic players will be seen as a minority in the game.

I completely agree with this. The very fact that we are taking time out of our day to talk about the game, write guides, and post advice that these toxic players use, post videos, streams, etc. We can be the example for the community to follow, because just think about all the times we have people hitting this site for advice about the game. We can shape them and mold them, THEN WE SHALL RULE OVER THEM WITH AN IRON FIST!

Just joking about that last part, but really this is where the change can start.

'Strawman argument'? Now you're just proving my point about your ignorance.

Now you're contradicting your first post.
Please go play CoD for a year, then tell me that this community is worse. Of course it's slightly subjective, you may run into many more 'toxic' players than me, so your view would be different than mine in the end. I honestly can't speak for the MOBA community as a whole, as I only play Smite, but I don't think it's as bad as you're making out.

Also, reading these posts with these flashing sigs... My eyes, they hurt. ):

Lol, You think people saying "you suck" every so often because your 'abilities' aren't that great is bad? Go play RuneScape where they flame your pvp ability and pvm abilities. On top of that, they flame you for not having certain skill/total levels/wealth which can take YEARS to complete or get to a respectable level in RuneScape. On top of those 5 things, they will flame you for buying into MTX, skins, pets etc. Even on top of that, they will flame you for the version of RuneScape you're playing; fighting over display names etc. That's just player to player toxicity and there is no 'escape after 20mins is up' in that game either. The COMPANY also catches just as much toxicity directed towards them if not more.

^ This is just 1 game man. There are tons of other MMOs and console communities that I play that are just like this. Don't even get me started on FPS. MOBAs? Lol, not even close.

Actually, I have played Runescape. I was an active player since 2005 up until about may of last year, when I started to feel I was growing out of this futile (sloooow) grinding and poor combat (pre EoC, even though the new stuff still makes combat too slow for me to enjoy). And oddly enough, I've hardly ever seen toxic players there except in PvP minigames or in social networks as they keep arguing about which mode of combat is better. In fact, the only players I've seen that were hostile to others were either trolls, or the wealthy minority who think they're the best in the world for devoting so much of their life to get where they are. Most of the toxic behavior seemed to be aimed more at the developers as you've said rather than each other, usually because the veterans don't know how to adapt to change.

Thanks to Runescape, I don't think I'll ever be able to enjoy an MMO with semi-attentive combat (WoW, Elder Scrolls Online, etc) ever again. :x

----

Hmm, I've never even suggested a way to solve the issue of Smite's toxic community. A possible fix, even though its already been suggested, is that we get rid of tournaments. Without tournaments, people will be less pressed on badmouthing people while looking for a team to make money. However, I fear that the reason MOBAs are so popular to begin with was because of e-sports, and taking it away would cause a lot of people to leave.

I've seen a lot of potentially good MOBAs die out because of it, either costing money to purchase the game to play and/or having no e-sports. Starvoid was one such example of both, if I recall correctly.
