Let's face the facts.

Very little players coming from new genres want to play as the tank.

Why?

Tanks don't get pentakills. They don't destroy the other team and do insanely high damage.

They just soak up damage, cc, and get assists.

So what incentive is there to play tanks, Hi-Rez asks itself.

I have a personal problem with tanks having such high damage ultimates.

Why should tanks be able to hit so hard? That isn't their job. I feel like they were put in play so more people would want to play tanks.

Ares: 500+
Athena: 800+
Bacchus: 550-600+
Geb: 35%
Hades: 800-1000 total
Knumbhakrana: 700+
Sobek: 1000+
Ymir: 1200+

Those are big numbers for people who aren't supposed to deal a lot of damage... I just feel that tank's ultimates should be more based on crowd control, enemy team disruption, and friendly player protection rather than SUPER-ULTRA-HAX-OMGWTFBBQ DAAAAMAGE

They are tanks. Walking team fight machines. I think it's okay to have some High Damage ultimates, as they use it for initiating( like Athena for example), and others for zoning( Ymir).


Their job is not exactly to deal the tons of damage as someone like a Mage or ADC, but I see it for zoning and/or initiating. Depends of the tank, though.

It also makes for a wider META, nwo you can jungle Ymir and Athena.

I never really liked playing tanks in this game due to their playstyle.
Though ever since the new GEB skin came out, I figured I'll give it a try, and quite frankly, I am enjoying it.

I do notice a lack of tanks in matches, but it is something you have to cope with I suppose, especially in Arena.
You need someone to initiate fights, and without a tank it can be very tricky.

As for the damage on the tanks being an issue? I really don't see it.
Other classes can ditch out way more damage in a much shorter timespan.
And the ults from tanks do include a form of CC or defense.
Plus you are not taking into account mitigation from protection.
I have never been hit by a tank for 1200, or anywhere near for that matter.

If they did not have high damage ults they would be absolutely useless and people would build mages as support, the thing with tanks is that they need to have some impact on the game and even tho more cc or something like that would do that as well, that is less fun and harder to balance. If everyone wants to stop crying about tanks that would be great btw because I have seen this discussion more than a year ago on this forum as well, but what I have found is that tanks are only getting less and less popular and powerful.

I agree...I understand the purpose of damage being used for zoning and whatnot, but the high damage on tanks seems really ridiculous. It seems that the go-to ultimate for tanks for HiRez is "massive burst damage." Or "massive area damage." Or "CC AND medium damage, except it's a LOT of CC."


I don't think it was to make people play more tanks (Ymir had his ultimate from the very beginning), but rather because HiRez as a whole cannot balance nor design properly.
