Classic Starting build. Most often you will build aegis to counter teams and gods with heavy early game damage and executes or you will build Purification Beads to counter enemy teams and gods that rely on crowd control. Situationally, if you're feeling spicy, you can build blink to increase your early game offensive potential. This can be very potent in the hands of a good Zeus as you can steamroll the other team early game and build a strong lead. Go with your gut on which one will help you more.
Doom orb or Charons coin both cover important aspects of zeus. Doom orb gives power and movement speed, charons coin gives health and movement speed. I like to buy Spear of Desolation next as it gives you a lot of magic power and cooldown reduction for your ult with kills. This allows you to keep heavy pressure transitioning from the early to midgame, and often allows you to steamroll the enemy team as you keep getting stronger with kills. In a good game, you will have the ability to use your ult multiple times very quickly which significantly impacts the enemy team's ability to form a good offense. Chronos Pendant continues this theme as it allows you to keep the pressure on the enemy team and as a result they will not be able to get close to you or pick you off as easily if you miss abilities. Rod of Tahuti allows you o really finish off enemies with low health with your third ability, detonate, which is really good for Zeus since he does not have many ways to chase down hurt enemy gods so he really needs to finish them with his abilities when he has the chance.
This is more situational, I prefer to run ethereal staff since you get a large amount of healing and mana by poking with your shield and lightning bolt. Soul Reaver is also a really good item to build as it makes your abilities more powerful. Bancroft's is good if you feel like you need a bit more sustainability to get your kills. As well as Charon's coin which will give you extra health and movement speed for sustainability and escapes. Divine ruin is a situational early item that you could replace spear of desolation with if you find you really need the antiheal.

SOOOOOO you want to play the king of Olympus, Leader of the Gods, Slayer of the Titans. Great choice! Zeus is a really fun, easy character to play and has a ton of potential to help your team. His abilities do a ton of damage and are great at controlling the movement of the other team. You can either hit an enemy god and do a ton of damage to burst them down or use your abilities to deter them from chasing you or from going in a certain direction. Your third ability is your most important as it allows you to do a ton of poke early game which is really good at annoying the enemy team and finishing off gods that are low on health. If you get good at zeus you will find he is a really strong momentum character. Getting just a small amount of momentum through kills early game will really ramp up the strength of your abilities and turn you into an absolute monster in the mid and late game. Team fights are where Zeus really shines as his all of his abilities can hit multiple gods at once and his ult affects a really large area. A good Zeus player waits for his moment to strike and then bursts down the entire enemy team in one massive thunderstorm. Be the lightning. Strike fast and hard and then disappear.
In most situations, you would hit the enemy god with your shield(2) and then hit the shield with your lightning bolt(1) and then follow up with your detonate ability(3).
When your ult is ready you can use it to make enemies run away into this combo for maximum damage. Your Ult can provide a decent getaway against squishier characters, but be careful of trying this around bulky ones as they may survive long enough to kill you before you are able to use your other abilities to damage them.
Pros
-Great in team fights
-High damage potential
-Great range and poke
-Third ability hits anywhere
-Massive ult area
-okay early game, Oppressive midgame, strong late game
Cons
-No escape ability
-Weak Chasedown
-Low health/protections
-Easily bursted by close range damage dealers

I can see why you have no boots and it's pretty good. Good build!
YOU MADE THE BUILD WORSE
Where's your boots? Doom Orb + Charon's is not a boots substitute.
Also by Diamond do you mean Diamond Joust Rank or Diamond Joust god rank or simply you just have Diamond Zeus (Rank X and above)?
Hey blooper,
Gonna have to say that I haven;t played Zeus yet, however I do know that atm I do heavily dislike Spear of the Magus. Unless you are a Anubis and even then you probably want Divine Ruin as your early flat pen item. So honestly I don't think it's really worth that much as your Chain Lightning will not reach magus full potential (only 4 stacks, assuming magus does not require you to hit the same god with Chain Lightning) and getting out of zeus ult or the range from aegis shield is also fairly easy. For detonate it does nothing. Honestly the change HR made to it was sorta awfull (although a change was needed).
putting my dislike of Spear of the Magus aside, your build has 2 imo major flaws:
1. Although Mage's Blessing can be considered the classic start it's pretty out of favor on mid lane mages atm as Doom Orb rush ( Lost Artifact+ Magic Shoes or Chronos' Pendant rush ( Restored Artifact), however this is not the flaw your start brings. The flaw is later in the build as you will overcap CDR when finishing Chronos' Pendant (by 10%, and later Potion of Power will also until speed pot assuming you replaced blessing), which will waste the passive from the blessing. An easy fix would be changing the start to one of the before mentioned, or since anti-heal is never bad to have Divine Ruin instead of deso. Or changing the build that you grab a CDR item after speed pot. Just remember that in a finished 6 item build (before switching boots after selling blessing) 30% CDR is the most optimal as you will probably be utilising Potion of Power. And well 40% is the cap.
2. The other big flaw is the lack of % penetration items in your early build. The build now requires you to snowball and target squishies, which normally are 2-3 gods (assuming conquest and depending on the jungle being an full damage assassin or a bruiser). Looking at how mage builds have been shaping the goal is to reach the 40% pen cap. Your first items have no % pen, which you only recommend to get as last 2 items. By this time most bruisers will be quite a major threat to you as they survive your combo and you will tickle them.
I have seen games lost, because people undervalue % pen, So I would at least recommend an earlier pickups of Charon's Coin somewhere in the middle.
After that things look quite decent. Love the Ethereal Staff pickup since it makes Zeus a bit more survivable and I feel people forget the item exists.
Agreed also that usually at level 1 you start with the 2 for quicker minion clear with the aoe / basic interaction.
It stacks on a specific god not from your cast. So for it to have an effective it needs to hit an opponent multiple times.
Also please tell me in your changed build you still build boots, every god needs boots early and rushing an early elixer of speed is not a good idea as it provides no stats
Now, I will say that this is very risky, as your early MS is going to be very slow, and your base MS before you get Elixir is always going to be less than standard. That's dangerous on a god with no mobility like Zeus. And with the high combined cost of Doom + Charon's, and the requirement to stack Charon's to gain the base MS, it's definitely not something I would ever do.
But I'm going to guess that blooper is very comfortable with Zeus and probably (?) has good awareness of what's safe and what's not. And in Joust, early distance between towers isn't that great and whatnot.
I'm personally not a supporter of a no-boots build at this point, but I get the concept. I used to do this sometimes with Freya when she had MS in the rings. And as this is clearly stated as being for Joust and not Conquest, I think this is more acceptable.
