Hello there, I have been playing smite since mid season 3 or so. Currently I am diamond 2 in conquest and unqualified in other modes(dislike joust if not with friends and duel). My preferred roles are Support, Solo and Mid in that order. I decided to start doing some guides due to the fact that there is a shortage of them and since smitefire helped me out when I was starting out so might as well return the favor.
NOTE: All of my guides are for conquest mainly, builds can be used in other game modes obviously. Do not take the guide for granted! I encourage you to discuss and find better build than from what I have putted up there.
Pros:
-Great Sustain
-Great Poke
-Cleanse
-Huge protection buffer
Cons:
-Squishy
-Mana hungry
-Lack of ult
-Lack of mobility
Decay / Restoration will you be primary poke in the support and mid role, it's relatively easy to confirm, plus the heal is really potent.
Hinder / Cleanse one of the reasons you pick hell, great counter to gods that relly on their CC to engage, for example Da Ji, Geb, Cerberus.
Repulse / Inspire your primary healing ability in team fights, this is the reason why we pick Lotus Crown on her. The heal is a tick that ticks each second for 6 seconds, and with each tick it reprocs Lotus Crown passive, meaning a constant buff off protections once you get your cooldown to 20-30%. The dark stance does damage(duh).
Switch Stances your stance switcher, the buff that you have from it depends on your passive, MP5 is always there. During the early game look to abuse the dark stance benefits, it will allow you to clear faster and poke the enemy team harder. But starting from mid to late game, look to use your light stance benefits more often, having extra protections for your team over a little bit of magical power is much more beneficial for your team.
AA cancels: AA cancels with Hel can sometimes make a difference whether you get a kill in lane or not. The proper way to use is to use your 2 in dark stance>AA>3 in your dark stance>AA>1 in your dark stance>switch stances>AA>1 in your light stance.
Let us cover the Support role first: We are picking up Guardian's Blessing since we won't be getting any farm on our own during the whole match so the gold benefit from it is really nice, mana and health sustain is also really noticable, besides that you will be grabbing 4 Mana Potion and 2 Multi Potion. Hel as mentioned above is really mana hungry during the whole game, that is why my personal preference on her is Travelers Shoes, it allowes you to position yourself much more easily, grants that escape potential from junglers that have dashes or any mobility abilities. MP5 on it is also really nice. Reinforced Greaves is also an option if the enemy team has at least 3 to 4 gods with heavy CC, other solution is Shoes of Focus for extra mana and 10% cooldown. We are building the Lotus Crown after due to her healing potential of course, Genji's Guard for some magical prots, cooldown, but mainly because of that MP5, after you get Genji's Guard all of your mana problems should be solved. Other options for support role are Gauntlet of Thebes, do note tho! If you wish to get Gauntlet of Thebes into your build, you have to rush it after boots in order to stack it as soon as possible, mostly since after 15th minute mark approximately you will be participating in team fights quite often leaving you a small window to actually stack them. Sovereignty and Heartward Amulet are my recommendations what you should be getting after your core items, aura items for support are really good in season 5, plus considering enemy team is eventually going to get antiheal, the extra auras will allow you still to be really useful to your team. Rod of Asclepius is something that I often pick up, but only when ahead, item is pretty much self explained why you should pick it up, but when even or behind picking something up such as Spirit Robe in heavy cc teams, Mantle of Discord, Winged Blade if enemy team has lot of slows,is much more better. Shield of Regrowth is something for a bit of fun, movement speed on it is nice, cooldown as well. Relic choices for support, I usually start with Meditation Cloak, it solves your mana issue in lane plus the extra sustain is nice. Heavenly Agility is good as first relic if enemy duo has a lot of slows, for example, Ymir, Ganesha, Sobek, Hou Yi. You might look into picking up Purification Beads as well in case if you believe you will be focused out really heavily for example by Thor or Ratatoskr or enemy support. The secondary relic most of the times should be either Magic Shell or Heavenly Agility if you have picked the meditation first.
Mid lane build: Mage's Blessing is your starter to go in mid. Lost Artifact is good for that early extra mp5 plus you can build Chronos' Pendant out of it, 2 Mana Potion and 2 Multi Potion, getting Shoes of Focus is a bit better on her due to extra mana and cooldown that it offers. Warlock's Staff is a go to on her due to the huge HP buff it gives you. Soul Gem just a huge boost for your damage overall, you get the passive proc on every rotation of your damaging abilities, a must have on her! After the core items it comes down to you whether you want to go for utility or damage. If for utility picking up Lotus Crown, Rod of Asclepius is a must. If damage standard as per other mages, only difference is that your are getting Shoes of the Magi instead Shoes of Focus (reason is in next sentance). Getting Spear of Desolation is my suggestion, you will be maxing your cooldown with evolved Mage's Blessing and Chronos' Pendant, and once you sell your blessing the 10% cooldown reduction from Potion of Magical Might will keep you topped out with cooldown through the late game. Of course, if you wish for more tankiness Spirit Robe or Mantle of Discord is there for you.
Solo build: You will be starting out with Mage's Blessing for extra poke and mana sustain in lane, Chalice of Mana and 2 Healing Potion is my recommendation for the lane. teleport glyph is my preferred first relic unless enemy team has an Odin in which case you are of course going Phantom Veil. Shoes of Focus into Warlock's Staff into Breastplate of Valor into Void Stone is the core for solo lane, that way with either your blue buff or Potion of Magical Might you will have max cooldown plus barely running out of mana in late game. Rest of the items are pretty situational, I usually pick up lotus crown into Rod of Asclepius into Mantle of Discord, but it all comes down to you. Secondary relic should usually be a team relic that your team needs, most of times either Heavenly Agility or Magic Shell
For the early game you are meant to play relatively safe, your main goal is to get your core items online. Getting the base MP5 that will allow you to sustain through the prolonged team fights which is something that you are looking to do as hell. Mid to late game is relatively simple with Hel, stay in your light stance and cleanse/sustain your team up during the team fights, having your passive always proving light stance benefits once again is more beneficial for your team. Keep aware of your positioning through the whole match, Hel is a mage after all, and she doesn't have the natural tankiness of a guardian to survive a prolonged focus on her even if you are full build!
So summa summarum, be careful with your positioning, don't be late with cleanses, ward, keep healing your allies. Hel is a great goddess to play, she is one of my favorites, I hope you will enjoy playing her as much as I did!
Thanks for reading the guide, if you have any advice how on what aspect of the guide to be improved let me know.
P.S. The guide was written at 2am, so I apologize for any typos I might have done.
Smite is an online battleground between mythical gods. Players choose from a selection of gods, join session-based arena combat and use custom powers and team tactics against other players and minions. Smite is inspired by Defense of the Ancients (DotA) but instead of being above the action, the third-person camera brings you right into the combat. And, instead of clicking a map, you use WASD to move, dodge, and fight your way through the detailed graphics of SMITE's battlegrounds.

Just curious as to your build order (mid in particular), as it isn't ever really specified. When are you building Chronos' Pendant? Are you building it first? Or are you keeping the tier 1 component and finishing it later?
Also, I know it has been discussed in the comments already, but I also find Rod of Tahuti very nice on her, and is usually what I look to build late game for an extra boost. I know you said you don't prefer it, but I encourage you to consider it as an option that you could include in your guide.
With Mage's Blessing I feel that Chalice of Mana isn't necessary especially due to mana buff. I would rather get Chalice of Healing, and a few Mana Potions or Multi Potions. You also end up going Shoes of Focus which further reduces the need for it.
For example, a start with Warrior's Blessing could be: Warrior's Blessing, Chalice of Healing, 3 Mana Potions. Or you can get rid of the mana potions if you don't poke too often and have the mana buff, and use Warrior's Blessing to get some mana back by targeting the enemy solo. Soul Gem is also good for Hel Solo, like mid, it increases your sustain even further in lane after going Warlock's Staff.
An alternative start with Mages Blessing could be: Mage's Blessing, Chalice of Healing, Shoes. Allowing you to get Shoes of Focus as soon as possible, as you already bought into Shoes.
Also I would list Aegis Amulet and Purification Beads as possible options for the solo build, as Hel is very vulnerable to early ganks.
Chalice of Mana is just my comfort pick up on her due to ability spam even with the blue buff you can run short on mana if you don't pay close attention. Soul Gem I dislike the pick up in solo lane unless you go full power due to the scalling of it, right now it is only on 30% and the benefits from it isn't that great comparing to another utility or defense item. I dislike Chalice of Healing since you have more than enough sustain in your kit once you hit that level 5-7 while Chalice of Mana still stays relevant. Aegies and Beads are situational, but if you time your cleanse right there is no need for beads and if you ward the entrances after your first back there is no kill potential on her so Aegis isn't that great either imo, but feel free to use it if you feel insecure or you are exremly wary of the gank
Nice guide and nice explanation of your item choices. My suggestions here is you include Rod of Tahuti in Mid Hel as a damage option or even in Sup due its passive works with healing. Pythagorem's Piece may be an item to be tested on a Sup Hel and Soul Gem to a Mid/Solo more focused on utility.
