Pros & Cons

Pros:
  • Good single target lockdown
  • Great AoE lockdown from range
  • Vastly reduce physical protections
  • Gives insane mitigation
  • HUGE model! (not only it's cool but you can bodyblock easily!)
  • Can easily proc items effects thanks to 3 damaging abilities!
  • helpful passive for pre-fights.

  • Ressing ultimate!
    .
    .
Cons:
  • low mobility
  • very low damage
  • Vulnerable during Abduct
  • Abduct can be interrupted
  • Need to consider VERY carefully the positioning during Scarab's Blessing
  • Might need to leave a fight in order to resurrect an allie far from enemies
  • Average frontliner
  • Zoning isnt great

Builds

Building a Tank is always quite complex cause you dont really need to "deal as much damage as you can" nor "mitigate as much as you can".
The tank is the one that need to counter build the most and there are MANY items that are viable and you want to consider during each game.
Even the game mode you wanna play will change the itemization and you might end up with different builds each time.

Note: For Arena i'll be using the terminology "Tank" and for Conquest (and Joust) i'll use "Support" instead cause i feel that in the first case the role is more generic than the latter ones. (Especially for Conquest where "Support" is actually a role you can select while queueing!)
BUT BE CAREFUL: you can also consider a "tank" someone that dives and wants to soak as much damage as possible for allies, and a "support" someone that wants to help allies with peeling and actives at the right time! (so in the support case you are not the one supposed to engage but instead to keep an eye on your allies that might need you!)
The biggest differences will be between Arena and Conquest while Joust is definitely more about counterbuilding and so it could be some way in between... so i suggest to read every item guide properly down below!

Note: there is not a specific section for Joust cause as i mentioned above it could be really similar to both Arena or Conquest. BUT down below, at the end of the item section, you can find few items that might be worth building specifically in Joust!

Note: if want to get as many information as you can, i suggest to still read the notes even for game modes you arent interested in. That's to get more knowledge on the itemization! Even the builds that you see suggested for conquest can be viable in Arena or Joust! CHECK ALL THE BUILDS and the logic behind them!

Build 1: Arena

As i mentioned above, building a tank is not easy and often you want to swap items. Let's start talking about this buid and how you could tweak it!

with your build you will also need a starter item. Personally the 2 best starter items are War Banner and Heroism. If you are solo tanking in arena, i suggest to select War Banner, mainly for the extra movement speed. If you are NOT solo tanking (and the main tank is building War Banner) you can go for Heroism in order to shield allies!

You will also have to select a relic and best 2 options are Phantom Shell and Blink Rune with Purification Beads being a very niche option against hard displacing ults.
Overall you should go for Phantom Shell to burst the survivability of your allies... whether you are solo tanking or not. Blink Rune is quite good both for engaging (but as solo tank you ll most likely get interrupted on your Abduct, making this relic not so great), for catching up with someone... and, not gonna lie here, to also escape. Khepri isnt insane at surviving on his own so something you may end up blinking away with 1 hp!

With this itemization you will be able mitigate and soak a lot of damage while also helping allies with your actives! Mobility is really important in arena and especially on a god that cant escape really well... Stampede and Hussar's Wings will vastly help with it!
You will also surely not lack CDR (you will have 50%!) making you able to cycle multiple items through your abilities during a team fight!

ACTIVES ARE FUN! DONT BE AFRAID TO BUILD THEM!

Note: the main and first swap you can consider is Gauntlet of Thebes for either Ruinous Ankh (in case you need antihealing) or Stone of Binding (in case you are not solo tanking and wanna help more the carries!).

Note: another swap you can make if you plan to stack for a long time, which is something i dont really suggest, is getting Prophetic Cloak for Gauntlet of Thebes or even instead of Hussar's Wings in case you feel like you dont need a slow immunnity.

Note: with the same logic, you can also consider swapping Hussar's Wings with Spirit Robe. This is for those cases where enemies has LOT of hard CC and, if you are the solo tank, you will need to soak them!

Note: if the enemy comp involve multiple AA carries (such hunters or assassins) you can consider getting Spectral Armor instead of Breastplate of Valor and/or nemean lion instead of Screeching Gargoyle. remember that you can only have 3 active items!

Note: both Void Shield and Void Stone could be effective, especially if you are not solo tanking and you wanna focus on aiding your allies. in this case you can consider them instead of Breastplate of Valor and Screeching Gargoyle respectively.

Note: another really good item that i HEAVILY suggest if you are not solo tanking is life binder that you should get instead of Screeching Gargoyle. Overall, Stampede] and Talisman Of Purification are too strong to be swapped out in arena... so when you need to get an active, the only option is to swap it for Screeching Gargoyle.

You may end up with one of these builds while not tanking alone:

Alternative Arena Builds

Build 2: Conquest

In Conquest you will really want to counterbuild more than in Arena. This is an example of a build you can end up with but will mostly change each game. I will also make more examples here but try to understand how the counterbuilding works and when you want a certain item over another!

While in conquest the movement speed is less important than in Arena... Stampede is still a very strong and ccre item.
In conquest you will 99% of the times play as a support... so Stone of Binding and Lifebinder are also kinda core.

about Starter and Relics, the logic is very similar of Arena.
Starter: Heroism and War Banner. (with Heroism being first choice here cause, again, you are the support!)
Relics: Phantom Shell and Blink Rune will be the main choices! Purification Beads is slightly less effective cause most of the time, even displacing ults, wont be as dangerous as they are in arena. On the other hand, Sundering Arc is actually a solid choice in case you want to burn down camps and deal a bit of damage to enemies!

Note: you can freely chose betwen Genji's Guard and Shogun's Ofuda as well as Void Stone.
If you think you need more CDR to help more the team go for Genji's Guard!
If you think you wanna help your insane ADC friend, go for Shogun's Ofuda!
If you think your random ADC isnt great but your mid is lit, go for Void Stone!
Oh and btw... if you feel like your assassin is the game changing player, consider Void Shield!

Note: if you need antihealing try also to get it as soon as you can. You can consider it over most items cause there is rarely something mandatory. Most of all you can consider it over Stone of Binding or Genji's Guard. Actives are still really good so try to keep them!

Note: If you want to counter an enemy comp involving AA carries, go for Spectral Armor. You can also consider nemean lion but ONLY if you think you dont need the other actives! you can only have 3!

Note: Screeching Gargoyle is still a very gooood item... the main swap you can consider is with Talisman Of Purification... in case you rather have a silence instead of a cleanse!

Note: Prophetic Cloak is a bit better in conquest cause the game will last for longer than an Arena... but it still takes a lot to stack it!

Note: Hussar's Wings can also be a great ending item in case enemies have many slows.
