Introduction

First guide, everything is down below plz leave comments for me

Why the build?

Zeus: lacks mobility, lacks Survivability, ability mage, and High damage

Early game: Zeus is Mana heavy,Always Slow, the early penetration and cool down are a plus

Specialist:Takes care of cool down,Mana recover, and will give movement speed

Penetration Boots:Adds Power,10 Penetration

Mid-game:Needs Survivability, massive power scaling, and more Mana

Bancroft's Talon: Massive power jump plus Life steal and Mana

Rod of Tahuti: Massive power and Mana recovery plus augments your passive(30% add on each basic attack up to three) with an extra 25% when enemy is below 50% health also all abilities do an extra 25% when enemy is below 50% health

Late game: True Damage

Spear of Desolation: Massive power,Cool down, and 15 Penetration

Spear of Magus: Penetration and most importantly the passive(reduce magical defense by 10 per ability hit) so minus 50 off their defense total plus the amount of penetration you have

Obsidian Shard: for the passive of ignoring defense up to 45%

Alternates and counter builds

Switch for obsidian Shard:

Soul reaver for high health God's
Divine ruin for healing shutdown
Shamans ring for troll
Void stone to also troll

Ability build

First four levels put one point in each ability 1-3 and one more in 3 ability, making it 2 points.

Fifth level goes in your ULT

Sixth-Eighth level goes AB1,AB3,AB1. They should be even on points

Ninth level back in ULT

From their max out AB1 AND AB3,Then ULT,AB2 gets points last

Kit Use and God play

Zeus has no escapes so never stop moving ever and be paranoid at all times

Lane clearing: shield back minions, chain lightning front minions, pop or basic till clear

Shield is to help hit your chain lightning, to detonate, watch out for minions.

Use ULT defensively or to secure kill

Team play

Stay shield distance off your engage, move in a half circle back and forth, poke when possible, when the engage happens, advance and Brun kit for kills

This build is over a year old and the author never bothered to respond to any if our feedback. It wasn't a good build then and it's even worse now.

The build technically wasn't that bad back when it was posted. People found an early Tahuti to work pretty well, and Magus was a fine item for him when it had prot reduction stacks. Looking at all the other items, nothing here is terrible...they've got Shoes (thank goodness), flat pen, % pen, etc.

It's just outdated now and with S7 item changes, the build is no longer relevant.

Better start: Either Book of Souls or Mage's Blessing, Magic Focus. Get 1 health and 2 mana pots. (Preferably start 1 as it wastes less gold)

Full Build 1: Shoes of Focus, Spear of the Magus, Soul Reaver, Rod of Tahuti, Mantle of Discord/situational , Soul Gem (or Obsidian Shard).

Full Build 2: Book of Thoth, Shoes of the Magi, Spear of the Magus, Soul Reaver, Shaman's Ring, Book of the Dead. (If you don't want book of dead then Thoth isn't really needed on Zeus).

Other good items: Divine Ruin, Celestial Legion Helm, Magi's Cloak, Winged Blade.

Adding to dv8 and mysterionz:
Rod of Tahuti is in there too early. It should typically be your last item.

Kriega1 (143) | January 11, 2019 1:10pm
Tahuti early on Zeus was a thing earlier this season so I have to disagree.

boogiebass (46) | January 11, 2019 1:33pm
Why do you think that was the case? It's really expensive. Was it the mp5? Or does zeus wreck early game? (I thought he was more mid-late game)?

I'm not a Zeus specialist buttt...

Unless you're fight against 3 or more tanky enemies (with 265 or more protections), I wouldn't recommend combine Spear of the Magus with Obsidian Shard.

I also recommend you build pen as 4th item in most cases or even earlier if you feel you need it earlier.

I'm not sure about this blessing you chose. I would rather much more Mage's Blessing or Attacker's Blessing

Magus also needs stacking first.

Although I'm not a very seasoned Zeus player, I believe that Soul Gem is a decent item for him as well.

He has 4 damaging abilties, so it's not bad I guess.

Looking at SPBs, it was picked up quite a bit on him.

This build is obviously not meant for Conquest. It would be good to note which modes you play, as an Arena build would probably be a bit different from a Clash or Joust build, for example.
  • I can understand a bit of cheap extra MS and CDR from Specialist's Blessing, but the MP5 isn't enough outside of a slower mode like Conquest to be worth it IMO. I'm not sure it would be an item I would consider for him.

In the same vein, I would probably not bother with Mage's Blessing either. The stats just aren't good enough. The only blessing I would consider for him outside of Conquest would probably be Attacker's Blessing, which is super quick to stack and the 10 pen is nice early. Combine that with your shoes of choice, Shoes of the Magi, and you're powering through most of an enemy's early inherent protections. If I didn't choose Attacker's, I probably would just rush shoes and bypass blessings altogether.

If you're worried about lack of MS that early, you should change your gameplay up and deploy your Chain Lightning differently, to get the slow.

  • The next questionable item is Bancroft's Talon. Yes, you can get some really good power from it, but it's not a best-fit for him. Bancroft's is really meant for gods that are going to exchange damage a lot. They expect to take damage, and want to deal even more back as they're hurt. This is not Zeus, at least not in normal situations. He's got some of the best distance poke of any god, due to his Chain Lightning, extended Lightning range from Aegis Assault bouncing, and the practically unlimited range of Detonate Charge. So in many cases, he's not going to get a lot of function out of the passive. Not saying it's never functional, but if you're looking for lifesteal, then you need to open your options.

As DV-8 mentioned, Soul Gem should be considered, IF you decide you need lifesteal. I'd probably argue that you'd question your need for lifesteal at all in a mode like Arena, though it will be of more benefit in Joust/Clash. In any case, SG has less power, sure, but it has some CDR that Bancroft's doesn't have, which is great for teamfight modes. And of course, the passive is easy to stack, and benefits nearby teammates when the heal goes off.

  • I've always been one that has a problem buying Rod of Tahuti early. I can understand the function, but feel it's got more effect late-game when you've built more power for the passive to enhance. I won't argue its place in the build, but I wouldn't build it in the 4th spot, personally.

  • Spear of Desolation is fine. It would be a flex/optional pick for me, but one I would probably build more than not.

  • My biggest problem is combining Spear of the Magus and Obsidian Shard. If facing a lot of tanky enemies, it's fine, because you won't always have Magus stacked, and Shard will punch through high protections. But in those cases, I might just build Shard for the tanks, and flat pen for the squishy gods, and leave it at that.

The thing is, Magus isn't necessarily the most efficient thing for him. In many cases, you'll get 1 or 2 stacks due to a couple of Lightning hits. Magus requires 5 stacks for max function. That said, even one or two stacks might be great if you've got a couple other magical damage dealers on your team, as they'll benefit from any protection reduction you apply. Magus and Shard would be situational items for me, depending on the enemy comp. Again, in most cases, probably wouldn't build them together.

  • As an FYI, you screwed up your skill leveling. Your last 2 points in your ult are too early. 17th level is when you can level to 4, and 20th for 5. This needs to be fixed.

  • I saw your comment on another's Zeus build, about how Gem of Isolation is "redundant" with Chain Lightning. No offense, but this is far from the truth.

Just to clarify, redundant means "it has no use." I get your concept, that Chain Lightning already has a slow...but none of the rest of your abilities do. Also, the Gem slow stacks with the Lightning slow, so you slow to a higher degree. Hence...absolutely not redundant.

In fact, Gem of Isolation is probably close to a core item for him in a teamfight mode. It gives you a wide measure of CC/control for your teammates, as well as helping with your concerns about Zeus' lack of MS. It gives an incredibly frustrating slow to his Lightning, and then reapplies the slow when you Detonate. It also makes a slow apply on your ult, giving you a higher chance of multiple hits before the enemy escapes the area.

So...again, no offense, but not even mentioning Gem of Isolation is a huge oversight. You don't have to get it every game, but you obviously haven't used it enough to understand exactly how effective it can be.
So those are all of my comments. I'm okay with the majority of item mentions, but I don't necessarily like the build order, feel some items are situational, and some very functional items aren't mentioned. Would like to hear your thoughts.

Magus is one of the best items on Zeus what are you talking about?

Oh yea. Good mention on the gem of isolation. It really helps with his ability to control and keep off pesky threats.

To add to this I don't think Void Stone is a good pickup even as a troll build. I would pick up Mantle of Discord instead because void is better off on mages that need enemies to stay close so they can do their damage like Zhong Kui, Hades, and maybe Baron Samedi. Zeus doesn't get anything of any real use out of void aside from the health, but he can get that from gem and Ethereal Staff among other more useful items.
