So while I'm not done playing Thoth yet probably (howly hell he can be fun) I feel like slightly speeding up my challenge and if you ask me thoth is pretty straight forward. Even though I messed a lot up (like lvling order) and did quite the damage. did die a lot because of a lvl 3 misscast (right into the enemy team) and odin
His passive is quite straight forward pretty much a stacking item for pen and it gives some neat pen early which hurts combined with pen boots.
his one is what does the damage especially combined with 3 however even without 3 it can be used for some neat damage
I derped his 2 thinking it was like Rama etc. Ended up being like it however I miscasted it the first time cause latency didn;t register me going backwards on cast. totally forgot it also passes through enemies so could have made better use of it tbh.
his three is nothing special on his own however it's spammability makes it great. you only need to be carefull you don;t telegraph stuff with it sometimes just using it to basic attack to throw people off is a great way for blowing escapes.
I did notice I have a slight problem with Chronos' Pendant passive cause of the spammability of this ability. It's not easy to accoutn for the 1 second every 10 second sometimes. Also may have lvled this before his two cause of pendant too (since it felt like the CD got lower on lvlup) oops.
Honestly his ult isn't really that special kinda a Searing Pain only target able and with travel time. only thought the range was longer cause it always feels like you get sniped from cross map by this ability sometimes.
I had a blast playing him and atm I have noticed this counts for a lot of mages that I either have played before or had played before. Kinda a blast from the past as apparently even then I preferred mages (mostly Ra) which has the longest play time not matches) even though I remember not liking mid. However seems I might transition towards it for conquest.
So thor did not really change had a bruiser game with him and taking The Crusher which can be seen as a slightly questionable choice as I was the only tank, however it allowed me to finish people for quite some time with the combo. Also need to practise the stun and 1 a bit more to be back on lvl.
And to conclude I can actually say I prefer ability based gods over (mostly ranged) basic attackers (unless ullr still not a fan of stance switchers) abilities are just easier to hit most of the time XD. And atm damage gods if that wasn;t clear from my last rant. I have to say that game with Thor felt more like playing a warrior than assassin (as I'm used to assassins having max 1 hybrid defense item (or magi)) So that was great especially since the let down of damage on warriors atm (for most of the their basics when they are waiting for CDs to come up) all from just tabi and 1 pen item XD.
I like Thor a lot, but I have not used him much, but I have built him tanky when the tank sucked or we didn't have a tank and I feel like, in arena at least, you could find regular success that way even if it's not really how he is normally played.
I really don't have a preference of ability or basic attack oriented gods, but I have played 406 matches with Bellona and I really love her playstyle. Even if you are not a big fan of stance switchers, she brings a lot of utility to matches with her flexibility. Recently in arena I have been consistently successful with offensive counter building. I have not really included much in the way of true defensive items in my builds I have been testing. I love Ninja Tabi, but I seem to have more consistent success running Reinforced Shoes sometimes I will run Gauntlet of Thebes or more rarely Hide of the Urchin at the two and at times in a bit more challenging matches with healing threat Pestilence at the 3, but normally I use items such as Void Shield Masamune Stone Cutting Sword Runic Shield Ancile Blackthorn Hammer, The Executioner..and for healing threats usually Brawler's Beat Stick or Toxic Blade(in conjunction with executioner at the end]] in the 3 spot. I also need to do more testing with The Crusher and Ichaival but about the only downside at times is that my assists may not be high depending on setup because even though I can take a lot of punishment still in most cases I might have to go back and heal more often in some matches so i'm not around for a higher percentage of kills.
I have had success with more of an ability based god like Ymir as well with this concept but I have not tested it out as in depth as I have with Bellona, but there is a whole different item set there and he has a way different setup and basic needs due to his kit than she does. he is my second most played god so after I run the gamut with Bellona he will be one of the next ones I work on for that concept. Like you said, it's arena so you don't have to be AS concerned with building for your team. As warrior or guardian you do need to take that into account, but you can still have success not following typical builds and still tanking. I have mitigated/taken close to 150k damage before with the offensive counterbuild concept on Bellona in arena.
I can concede that with that clarification, but I feel like she leans more into the AA sphere with how her 1,2 and 3 stances have specific purposes and cause her playstyle to be different.
All three of her regular abilities(aside from the slow from hitting the 1, the initial damage bonus from the upswing hitting multiple opponents doing additional damage on the downswing of the initial activation of the 2 and the hitting every enemy in the line and the initial disarm on the 3) require continued hits with basic attacks to get the benefits. To continue getting stacks of block in the 1 you have to keep hitting with basica attacks, to continue to hit multiple opponents with the 2 she has to keep hitting with basic attacks, and she cannot be healed with the scourge unless she continues to make basic attacks with the 3.
She doesn't get all different abilities but all of her special functionalities in her kit are tied into continued basic attacks.
That said, I don't have the same type of issue with Odin, Kali or Bastet, with their 1 being the leap. So maybe I'm just a walking contradiction.
Also never had that problem tbh. Even though this comment just made me notice how LoL also has most movement abilities on either thirs or first Could be because in LoL they may do it more randomly. Also if Thor would have his hammer on 3 would Hun Batz monkey be less of a problem

Walking Contradiction, okay Green Day :P
